NEW YORK – I’ve mentioned how I truly felt this was a must win game for the Giants. I wrote an entire article about this a few days ago. The Giants must have read it because they were able to get the win today by beating the Bills 27-24 in a battle. After losing to the lowly Seahawks last weekend, the G-Men needed not only a moral victory this weekend but also another “W” in the standings to keep their playoff hopes within reach. The Giants were also without some key players today including RB Brandon Jacobs, OL Chris Snee and DE Justin Tuck, all sitting out due to injury.
This was really an entertaining game to watch. I thought I was going to have a heart attack at certain points in the game because it was filled with so much drama. The first half of the game was going back and forth. The Giants gave up two huge plays that made up the majority of the Bills offensive production. Still, both teams went into the locker room tied 17-17. The second half was equally entertaining and saw the game go back and forth once more with both teams being tied 24-24 with under two minutes left in the game. The Giants had the ball at the end of the game and drove down the field to the Buffalo 1 yard line. The Giants were unable to score a TD but K Lawrence Tynes knocked a FG through to give the G-men a 27-24 lead. That was all they would need to secure the victory and improve to 4-2 on the season.
The Giants definitely needed this win as they head into the bye week next weekend. The players need the rest and the team needed this win to keep up in the NFC. They are still committing too many penalties and will need to work on that during the break. Giants fans will have to endure the hated “bye week” and try to pretend they are interested in the other NFL games. They will be rooting for whoever plays the Cowboys, Eagles and Redskins, you can count on that.
Let’s take a look at my notes from the game.
QB Eli Manning – Manning seems to be improving week to week. He had another solid game and finished with 292 yards 0 TD’s and 0 INT’s. His one TD pass was called back.
RB Ahmad Bradshaw – Bradshaw is a beast and might have had the best game of his career today. He finished with 104 yards rushing, 26 yards receiving and 3 TD’s.
WR Hakeem Nicks – Nicks led all receivers with 96 yards on 4 receptions. He was quiet most of the game but still contributed.
CB Corey Webster – Webster gets my defensive game ball for coming up huge in this game with 2 INT’s. Nice to see C-Webb playing well out there.
DE Osi Umenyiora – Who still thinks Osi isn’t worth elite money? You’re crazy! Osi had another good game and finished with 1 sack.
LB Mathias Kiwanuka – Kiwi was balling today and had a solid game. He finished with 1 sack and 1 forced fumble.
S Antrel Rolle – Rolle was all over the field as usual and making plays. Fans love this guy and I can see why.
WR Mario Manningham – Super Mario had a nice game and finished with 56 yards. He had a nice TD late in the game but couldn’t hold onto the ball.
DE Jason Pierre-Paul – How do you Spell JPP? B-E-A-S-T! JPP had another great game and finished with 1 sack.
LB Jacquian Williams – The rookie LB had a quieter game then he normally does. He is still going to be a force in the NFL.
RB Brandon Jacobs – Jacobs had to sit out his second straight game due to a knee injury. Get well soon Brandon!
WR Victor Cruz – Cruz continues to make big strides and had another game where he saw extended playing time.
DE Justin Tuck – Tuck had to sit out another game due to his neck injury. He will get the bye week next week to rest more.
LB Michael Boley – Boley is awesome and led all defensive tacklers for the G-Men. I love this guy!
S Kenny Phillips – Phillips got a bit banged up in this game but played through it. He had a solid game today.
TE Jake Ballard – Ballard is quickly becoming one of Manning’s favorite targets. He had another great game and finished with 81 yards.
CB Aaron Ross – Ross had a good game and made some nice tackles out there today.
LB Greg Jones – The rookie LB Jones had another quiet game today as Big Blue was trying out a 4-2-5 defense.
C David Baas – Baas was able to return to the field this week after missing last weeks game against the Seahawks.
P Steve Weatherford – The Weatherman continues to pay dividends after the Giants brought him on board. Great punter.
K Lawrence Tynes – Tynes made two of his three FG attempts and made all three of his extra point attempts.
Giants Defense – Despite giving up some huge plays and a ton of yardage, the Giants finished with 3 sacks, 2 INT’s and 1 forced fumble.
Giants Offense – The Giants offense had a great game today. I really liked how they spread the ball around and made plays when they had to.
Giants Special Teams – The special teams played a pretty good game despite allowing a blocked FG attempt by Tynes.

NEW YORK – The Giants needed to beat the Seahawks in order to start the season at 4-1 and gain some serious ground in the NFC. They were not able to do this and lost 36-25 in a heartbreaker. Everyone expected the Giants to win this game, even though the Seahawks statistically had a better defense then Big Blue. The achilles heal for Seattle was the fact that they also had the worst offense in the NFL, ranked dead last at 32. The Giants drop to 3-2 on the year and have to figure out how to recover from losing to the worst offense in the NFL.
The Giants defense had been a bit shaky in the backfield so far this year and I thought the Seattle game plan would be to continually throw the ball back there and see what happens. I was correct and a 2nd string QB took us to town. I mean the Seahawks couldn’t do worse then being dead last right? So they had nothing to lose by playing “Hail Mary” football. My pre-game advice for the Giants was to concentrate on the defensive backfield and let the defensive ends do their thing. The game was going back and forth like a playground ride and the players went into the locker room at halftime tied 14-14. I was sure the Giants would come out fired up for the second half but it never panned out that way.
In the end, it looked liked the Giants would prevail but then the wheels came off in the 4th quarter. It is hard to describe how it all went down because it was such a confusing game to watch. The turnovers and penalties did nothing to clear the fog of war from my eyes either. It was another sloppy game for both teams and really annoying to watch on TV. The Giants will need to instill some discipline in their game plan before the second half of this brutal schedule starts. Elite teams will capitalize off those errors and run up the score on Big Blue. I’m sure Coach Coughlin will be preaching discipline in their next practice session.
Let’s take a look at some of my notes from the game.
QB Eli Manning – Manning had a better game then the final stats show. He finished with 420 yards 3 TD’s and 3 INT’s. Two of those INT’s were not his fault.
RB Ahmad Bradshaw – Bradshaw had a good game and finished with 58 yards on the ground and 27 yards receiving.
WR Hakeem Nicks – Nicks was quiet most of the game but still finished with 65 yards and 1 TD.
DE Justin Tuck – Tuck did not play in this game and is on the mend from a recent injury.
S Antrel Rolle – Rolle had his usual hard hitting day and finished second on the defense in tackles.
WR Mario Manningham – Super Mario had a good game and finished with 56 yards and 0 TD’s.
DE Jason Pierre-Paul – JPP continued his monster season by finishing with 2.5 sacks. The guy is a beast!
LB Michael Boley – Boley had a great game and was all over the field as usual.
TE Jake Ballard – Ballard was balling and finished with 72 yards and 1 TD. This guy has come a long way.
C David Baas – Baas missed playing in this game due to injury and boy did the team see a difference. There were a bunch of botched snaps in this game.
DE Osi Umenyiora – Osi has been on fire since returning to the field and finished with 1.5 sacks and a forced fumble.
LB Jacquian Williams – The rookie LB led the team in tackles once again this week and seems to be the steal of the draft for Big Blue thus far.
WR Victor Cruz – Cruz had a break out game by finishing with 161 yards and 1 TD. He has come along nicely since being injected into the starting offense.
LB Mathias Kiwanuka – Kiwi was lining up all over the field and finished with 1 sack. It’s fun watching this guy play the game.
S Deon Grant – Grant had a nice game and was administering some hard hits out there. He also finished the game with 1 sack.
RB Brandon Jacobs – Jacobs had to sit this game out due to injury and I think the team missed him in the running attack.
LB Greg Jones – The rookie Jones had a quiet day but still seems to be improving week to week.
CB Aaron Ross – Ross and the backfield had a rough day but Ross still managed to grab 1 INT.
K Lawrence Tynes – Tynes made 1 FG and both of his extra point attempts. No complaints from me about his season so far.
P Steve Weatherford – The Weatherman had another good game and continues to be a bright spot on Special Teams.
Giants Defense – The Giants let the worst offense in the entire NFL beat them and put 36 points on the board. If you look at their final stat line, it wouldn’t appear that way. They finished with 6 sacks, 1 INT and 2 forced fumbles.
Giants Offense – The Giants offense was having a tough time putting points on the board and their running game seemed non-existent. They had a decent game that could have been better.
Giants Special Teams – The achilles heel of Big Blue did the best they could once again. Still coming up short of acceptable game play.

NEW YORK – The G-Men traveled all the way across the country to Arizona to play a pretty good Cardinals team today. After beating up the “Steam Team’ Eagles last week and improving to 2-1 on the season, the Giants needed this win to gain some ground in the NFC East. This was a tough battle between two teams and neither team wanted to lose. The Giants pulled out the comeback victory late in the 4th quarter by the score of 31-27. The G-Men improve to 3-1 on the year and this was by far the most entertaining game to watch so far this season.
The first half was pretty sloppy by both teams and considering the Giants were playing up and down football, a bit embarrassing. The first quarter was all about the Cardinals and they seemed to be pushing the Giants around. The Giants came to life in the second quarter and changed the momentum going into the locker room at halftime with a 10-6 lead. The Giants could have very easily have been losing the game at this point but some key defensive plays allowed them to jump ahead. Arizona came back to life in the third quarter and scored pretty quickly to give them the 13-10 lead. But the fourth quarter is where all of the action happened with both teams combining for 28 points and 21 of those points going to the G-Men. Giants fans were going crazy on twitter when they realized the Giants were actually going to win.
This was really a very exciting game to watch as I mentioned before. The only thing that concerns me is the fact that Big Blue had some trouble with a team they were supposed to beat easily. I’m not taking anything away from a really tough Cardinals team that played their hearts out but I had the Giants winning this game by 10 points. The other issue that caught my attention was the amount of penalties Big Blue had again. They finished the game with 7 penalties for 55 yards and really need to work on their discipline. The Giants will play the Seahawks at 1PM EST next weekend at home.
Let’s take a look at my notes from the game.
QB Eli Manning – Easy Eli kept his cool and finished with 321 yards, 2 TD’s and 0 INT’s. Manning has played extremely well the past 2 weeks.
WR Hakeem Nicks – Nicks led all WR’s and had an outstanding game finishing with 162 yards and 1 TD.
RB Ahmad Bradshaw – Bradshaw ran hard as usual and finished with 39 yards on the ground, 11 yards in the air and 1 TD.
DE Justin Tuck – Tuck was not able to play in this game and had to watch from the sidelines. Get well soon Justin!
WR Mario Manningham – Super Mario had a quiet game but that was expected in his first game back after a concussion.
LB Mathias Kiwanuka – Kiwi was the second leading tackler in this game and seemed to be all over the field. Great game for Kiwi.
DE Dave Tollefson – Tollefson had a great game and finished with 2 sacks. This guy has become an invaluable asset to Big Blue.
LB Greg Jones – The rookie Jones quietly had a nice game and finished in the middle of the pack with tackles.
DE Osi Umenyiora – Osi returned to the field for the first time this season and all he did was record 2 sacks and 1 forced fumble. Welcome back Osi!
RB Brandon Jacobs – Brandon was having trouble getting it going on limited carries but still finished with 18 yards and 1 TD.
S Antrel Rolle – Rolle knows the Cardinals very well and had a great game by leading all tacklers and getting 1 INT.
LB Michael Boley – Boley continues to be the strong, young veteran leader who just continues making big plays.
TE Jake Ballard – Ballard had a nice game and finished with 33 yards and 1 TD. Congrats on the TD Jake!
C David Baas – Baas had a good game despite getting a little banged up early in the game. It looks like he was a solid signing this offseason.
WR Victor Cruz – Cruz continues to make noise on the field and finished with 98 yards. He also had a weird play in the 4th quarter that Coach will question.
LB Jacquian Williams – Williams had his first quiet game of the year. Keep an eye on this guy and watch his star rise.
DE Jason Pierre-Paul – JPP had a quiet game by his standards and some think it is because he had to switch sides on the defensive line when Osi returned.
CB Aaron Ross – Ross had a decent game and is doing the best job he can do for Big Blue.
P Steve Weatherford – The weatherman had another good game and fans are starting to really like this guy.
K Lawrence Tynes – Tynes had a good game and finished with 1 FG and he made all 4 extra point attempts. He was also banged up in the 2nd quarter when a player ran into him.
Giants Defense – The G-Fense had a very good game finishing with 4 sacks, 1 INT and 1 forced fumble.
Giants Offense – The Giants offense started the game a bit slow and sloppy but finished strong and thats really all that matters right?
Giants Special Teams – This group had a decent game but still needs a ton of work.

EAST RUTHERFORD- In the past, injuries have been known to crush the hopes of making it to the Super Bowl for many teams in the NFL. I used to believe there was no such thing as a ‘one man marching band’, but this year, the Indianapolis Colts have made think twice about that. Since the 2006 season, Colts QB Peyton Manning has lead the Colts to two Super Bowls and one championship. Unfortunately, due to a neck injury, Peyton has seen only the sideline this season. The Colts have started 0-3 this season for the first time in quite a while. That goes to show you that perhaps there is such a thing as a ‘one man marching band’.
In my opinion, Eli’s brother Peyton has clearly been the one and ONLY anchor for the entire Colts team. Now, many of you know the Giants have been riddled with injuries this season. But unlike the Colts, I believe the Giants have adjusted well enough to losing some key players to win games. The Giants have a 2-1 start after stopping the so called ‘dream team’ last week, the Eagles. So enough babbling, here is the Giants injury update for this Sunday’s game in Arizona.
CB Prince Amukamara: Out
No surprise here. Giants fans were told before the regular season began that Amukamara would most likely miss 4-6 weeks this season after suffering a foot injury during training camp. Of course, he would be a key player this week with the Giants facing Larry Fitzgerald and the Cardinals but I believe the CB’s have performed rather well without him and will continue to do so this week.
WR Brandon Stokley: Out
Eli Manning will have to play without Stokley this week because Stokley left practice early Wednesday with a quadricep injury. Still, I think that Eli will have plently of options and will be able to find a reciever to throw to seeing how WR Victor Cruz has stepped up to the plate. No word on when Stokley’s return might be.
DE Justin Tuck: Questionable
Justin Tuck’s lingering neck injury may keep him off the field this Sunday. This could end up being the missing link this week. With Tuck not on the field I think Card’s QB Kevin Kolb would have ample time to toss a pass to WR Larry Fitzgerald. This could prove to be deadly for the Giants. All Giants fans are hoping to see No.91 on the field this weekend.
DE Osi Umenyiora: Questionable
Giants coaches and Umenyiora are ‘optimistic’ that Umenyiora may take the field Sunday after being sidelined since August after knee surgery. Umenyiora could be a sigh of relief it Tuck cannot take the field Sunday.
LB/LS Zak DeOssie: Questionable
DeOssie was listed as questionable with a back injury and did not practice on Friday. Zak is a tough guy and it would take something serious to keep him out of a game.
Among the banged up players who will likely take the field on Sunday are Mario Manningham and Hakeem Nicks. This will be a sigh of relief for Manning who will need all of his weapons and also because Stokley is out this week. If the Giants can shut down the Kolb-Fitzgerald combo, I think the G-Men will have no problem taking down the Cards tomorrow. The game starts at 4:05 PM EST. GO GIANTS!

NEW YORK – This was one of the most anticipated games of the season. There was so much hype surrounding this game because of all the trash talk in the media by the Eagles. It was widely believed that the Eagles would field the better team because the G-Men suffered so many injuries but the experts were wrong again. The Giants won the game 29-16 (my prediction prior to the game was 27-16, pretty close). Even though the Eagles proclaimed themselves to be a “Dream Team” prior to the start of the season, they couldn’t back up their talk. Only time will tell how good they are but seeing how they were 1-1 before this game and 1-2 after the game, they sure don’t look like a “Dream Team” to me.
Let me be fair, this was a hard fought victory. Both teams were playing their hearts out and QB Michael Vick looked like he was on his way to having a great game until the Giants broke his right hand. Fans knew the game was over at that point. The Giants went into the locker room at halftime with a 14-13 lead and appeared to have lost the momentum. That trend continued in the 3rd quarter but then in the 4th quarter the Giants came back to life and finished strong. The entire game lived up to the hype and had the outcome that Giants fans were looking for. The Giants needed this win badly after losing the last six straight games to the Eagles.
The Giants offense performed so well that I will have to divide my offensive game ball into three sections for QB Eli Manning, RB Ahmad Bradshaw and WR Victor Cruz. Manning had his best game of the year despite being sacked 3 times. The offense played above and beyond what anyone thought they could today and did the fans proud by shutting up the loudmouth Eagles players and fans. The G-Men came up big in the 4th quarter by shutting out the Eagles and scoring fifteen points themselves. Ironically enough, I have to divide my defensive game ball up in three parts too for DE Jason Pierre-Paul, CB Aaron Ross and S Kenny Phillips. Today was a great day to be a Giants fan.
Let’s take a look at some of my notes from the game.
QB Eli Manning – Manning had an outstanding game and finished 16/23 with 254 yards 4 TD’s and 0 INT’s.
RB Ahmad Bradshaw – Bradshaw is simply a beast. He finished with 86 yards on the ground, 53 receiving yards and 1 TD.
WR Hakeem Nicks – Nicks was being smothered the entire game but still finished with 25 yards.
CB Aaron Ross – Ross played out of his mind today and was all over the field. He finished with 2 INT’s.
DE Justin Tuck – Tuck was having a good game until he left with an injury. We all hope he will be OK.
WR Victor Cruz – This Jersey native had a break out game today. He finished with 102 yards and 2 TD’s.
RB Brandon Jacobs – Brandon the Bull had a great game and finished with 19 yards on the ground, 53 yards receiving and 1 TD.
S Antrel Rolle – Rolle had a good game and kept his cool despite the Eagles players trying to get in his head.
WR Mario Manningham – Super Mario missed this game due to a concussion. Fans are hoping Mario will have a speedy recovery and get back on the field soon. Get well soon Mario!
DE Jason Pierre-Paul – The future is now for this young man. He left the game late in the 4th after getting banged up but still finished with 2 sacks.
S Kenny Phillips – Phillips played an outstanding game and finished with 1 INT and 1 forced fumble.
LB Jacquian Williams – Keep your eye on this rookie. He led all defensive tacklers and plays with fire.
S Deon Grant – Grant had a great game and his veteran swagger on the field cannot be overstated. Re-signing him was huge this offseason.
LB Mathias Kiwanuka – Kiwi had a nice game and a few key tackles. I still think he should be used as a DE and not a LB.
TE Travis Beckum – Beckum’s return to the field was quiet and he finished with 1 catch for 2 yards.
WR Brandon Stokley – Stokley had a quiet game and finished with 1 catch for 7 yards.
LB Greg Jones – The rookie Jones is still settling into his role in the middle and had a decent game.
LB Michael Boley – Boley had a great game and continues to be the veteran presence needed in the LB group.
K Lawrence Tynes – Tynes made all three of his extra point attempts and had no FG attempts.
P Steve Weatherford – The Weatherman had another good game and kept the ball away from DeSean Jackson.
Giants Defense – The defense was outstanding today and finished with 2 sacks, 3 INT’s and 1 forced fumble.
Giants Offense – Hats off to Kevin Gilbride who called a good game today. The Giants offense played their best game of the year.
Giants Special Teams – Even the special teams got in on the party and played much better today.

NEW YORK – The Giants faced the Rams last night on Monday Night Football. The game was pretty ugly as many expected but the Giants played a much better game then they did against the Redskins last week. It was still a sloppy mess of a game that leaves plenty of room for improvement. Coach Tom Coughlin could be seen pacing the sidelines in a rage on more then one occasion last night. Still, a win is a win and this was a win the Giants really needed. They improve to 1-1 on the year and will play the Eagles this upcoming weekend.
At one point in the game, I was wondering out loud how the Giants could possibly have the lead because they were playing so bad. The firs half seemed to go by in slow motion with one mistake after another. If not for the awesome play of the Giants defense, the results would have been much different. The Giants went into the locker room at halftime with a 21-6 lead. The Rams were much more competitive the second half and really exposed the Giants weak secondary. CB Aaron Ross was benched for a while in favor of CB Michael Coe, because he was giving up big plays. The Giants offensive line is giving up a lot more sacks then fans are use to seeing. They gave up another 3 sacks last night and will need to work on that or risk getting the franchise QB seriously injured.
The Giants defense was stout inside the red zone but were having major issues in the open field against the pass. The Giants dominated the time of possession by nearly 10 minutes and still had trouble getting first downs. It is tough to watch those “three and outs” happening so frequently. The G-men had way too many penalties again this week with 5 for 55 yards. The G-Men will need to correct a lot of their issues before facing the Eagles this weekend.
Let’s take a look at some of my notes from the game.
QB Eli Manning – Manning had another mediocre game but it was better then last week. He finished with 200 yards 2 TD’s and 1 INT.
RB Ahmad Bradshaw – Bradshaw had a great game and finished with 59 yards on the ground and 45 yards receiving.
WR Hakeem Nicks – Nicks had a relatively quiet night but still finished with 15 yards and 1 TD. Remember, he was playing banged up.
DE Justin Tuck – Tuck had an awesome game and was all over the field last night. He finished with 1.5 sacks.
LB Michael Boley – Boley had a great game and made a heads up play in the 2nd quarter for a 65 yard TD on a fumble recovery.
DE Jason Pierre-Paul – JPP is a force to be reckoned with. He had a great game and finished with half a sack that he shared with Tuck.
RB Brandon Jacobs – Jacobs had a little spark in his step last night and finished with 50 yards on the ground and 17 yards receiving. He also scored 1 TD.
S Antrel Rolle – Rolle led all tacklers on defense and had 1 forced fumble. He is becoming a beast out there.
WR Mario Manningham – Super Mario led all WR’s with 56 yards but also went down with a concussion late in the game. Get well soon Mario!
LB Jacquian Williams – Williams was second on the team in tackles and had a very nice game for a rookie.
TE Jake Ballard – Ballard had a quiet night but still caught one pass for 13 yards.
LB Greg Jones – The rookie Jones was out there making plays but is still clearly raw and in need of more experience.
CB Corey Webster – Webster had a good game and continues to quietly do his job for Big Blue.
WR Domenik Hixon – Hixon had a nice game and finished with 29 yards and 1 TD. He also got hurt late in the game but was able to return.
RB Danny Ware – DJ came in and contributed late in the game with 22 yards on 3 carries.
LB Mathias Kiwanuka – Kiwi had a few nice plays and is laying out anyone who comes into his area.
WR Brandon Stokley – Stokley saw very limited action in his first game as a Giant.
K Lawrence Tynes – Tynes made all four of his extra point attempts and had no FG attempts.
P Steve Weatherford – The Weatherman had a nice game and I feel much more comfortable with him punting.
WR Devin Thomas – Thomas has been doing a pretty nice job with returning kicks and plays with a real fire.
Coach Tom Coughlin – Coach was visibly upset on the sidelines for most of the game but will put it behind him and focus on the Eagles this weekend.
Coach Perry Fewell – Coach Fewell is making lemonade out of lemons. His squad was hit the hardest with injuries and he is getting the most out of the players.
Coach Kevin Gilbride – Gilbride is calling plays too conservatively but it was better then last weekend.
Giants Defense – The bright spot for the team finished with 2 sacks, 0 INT’s and 2 forced fumbles.
Giants Offense – This group played much better but still needs some work.
Giants Special Teams – ST played better this week too but it still needs a complete overhaul in my opinion. From top to bottom.

NEW YORK – The 2011 NFL season has officially started Giants fans. I’m sure that most of you watched the Giants play the Redskins in DC today. Some football fans scrambled this morning to make sure their fantasy football teams had the proper lineups set and that there were no last minute injury updates. Some football fans broke out their lucky jerseys or made their favorite food before the games. All football fans honored the fallen of 9/11 in some way today, even if it were a small prayer or by attending a ceremony. America remembered the military and the fallen today. Never forget!
The Giants lost 28-14 to the Redskins in a game that was hard to watch at times. There were so many sloppy plays, after a very promising start, that I do not know where to begin. The best thing for Giants fans to do is just put this game behind us and look forward to next week when they play the Rams. Yes, it was that bad against a Redskins team that 99% of the experts said would lose today. The Giants start the season 0-1 and they have not even started the hard part of their schedule yet. After wins by the Eagles and Redskins, the G-men are officially in last place until we see what happens with the Cowboys game. The first half of the game saw a lot of back and forth action and it seemed pretty competitive, albeit sloppy. Big Blue went into the locker room at halftime tied up 14-14 and seemed to be building momentum.
Then the second half started and it all went down hill from there. One thing after another went wrong. The Giants were completely shut out in the second half and seemed to be playing tired football. I saw a lot of guys who appeared to be playing in slow motion. The Giants special teams are absolutely atrocious and need serious changes immediately. I have said that they might be the worst special teams in the entire NFL and I stand by that comment until they play better. The biggest surprise of the day was Redskins QB Rex Grossman balling on Big Blue for 305 yards and 2 TD’s. Nobody could have seen that coming. Giants QB Eli Manning had a rough day and was sacked 4 times with 1 INT. Manning has not seemed himself at all this year in the preseason or the regular season game tonight. I’m not sure what is bothering him but I hope he can focus on football and get back to the QB we all know he can be. The Giants also had way too many penalties in this game, finishing with 8 total.
Let’s take a look at some of my notes from the game.
QB Eli Manning – Eli did not have a very good game and finished 18/32 with 268 yards 0 TD’s and 1 INT. However, he did score on a 2 yard rushing TD.
RB Ahmad Bradshaw – Bradshaw had a decent game and ran hard as usual. He finished with 44 yards and 1 TD.
WR Hakeem Nicks – Nicks had a great game and he gets my offensive game ball. He finished with 122 yards 0 TD’s.
DE Justin Tuck – Tuck was on the sidelines and missed the game while he is recovering from an injury. Get well soon Justin!
CB Aaron Ross – Ross had a pretty good game but doesn’t look 100% comfortable back there yet.
S Kenny Phillips – KP had a really nice game and was all over the field. He is going to have a solid year.
RB Brandon Jacobs – Jacobs ran hard but finished with only 29 yards. I expect a big year from the Bull this year.
LB Mathias Kiwanuka – Kiwi had a good game and finished 5th on the defense in tackles.
S Antrel Rolle – Rolle led the defense in tackles and had some very hard hits in the game.
DE Jason Pierre-Paul – JPP gets my defensive game ball for his outstanding game. He finished with 2 sacks and 1 forced fumble.
LB Michael Boley – Boley had a good game and finished with a fumble recovery.
WR Mario Manningham – Super Mario had some big catches and finished the game with 49 yards 0 TD’s.
TE Jake Ballard – Ballard had a nice game despite getting banged up before halftime. He finished with 59 yards.
CB Corey Webster – Webster had a relatively quiet night but did his job.
LB Greg Jones – Jones had a pretty good night for a rookie being thrown into the fire. I like this kid.
WR Domenik Hixon – Hixon was a busy man tonight returning punts and seeing some time at WR.
K Lawrence Tynes – Tynes was 0-1 on FG’s due to a blocked FG attempt and made both of his two extra point attempts.
P Steve Weatherford – The “Weatherman” had a nice game I thought and fans must feel better with a veteran back there.
Giants Defense – The Giants D gave up 28 points to an inferior Redskins team but still finished with 4 sacks, 0 INT’s and 1 forced fumble.
Giants Offense – The Giants offense has some work to do and it starts with the play calling.
Giants Special Teams – Simply the worst special teams I can ever remember for the New York Giants.
Coach Coughlin – Coach Coughlin and his staff are making do with a depleted team and a young roster. There will be growing pains for certain.

NEW YORK – The Giants played their final game of the preseason last night against the Patriots. The game looked like it would be a blowout early in the 1st quarter as the Patriots first team players jumped out to a quick 10-0 lead within the first six minutes. Of course, the Pats were playing against the Giants second string players, because the first string guys never saw the field. The first half saw a lot of sloppy play and even the 3rd quarter was a bit slow but you could feel the momentum shifting. But then in the 4th quarter, the Giants starting working into a groove and were able to pull out the comeback victory by the score of 18-17.
The Giants were getting beat in most areas of the game and all over the field for the first half of football. It was very difficult to watch, as many fans expressed on twitter last night. They went into the locker room at halftime with the score 17-3 and fans were expecting it to be a long night from that point on. But there were two rookies who brought them back from the ledge by scoring a TD and 2-point conversion in the second half. RB Da’Rel Scott scored on a huge 65 yard TD and WR Jerrel Jernigan who pulled down a tough 2-point conversion in the 4th quarter. It was a crazy up and down game but the Giants finished strong, which is exactly what the fans, coaches and players needed. I am very glad that these young players pulled themselves up from being down and pulled out a huge moral victory. The game also saw LB Clint Sintim go down with a bad knee injury. My thoughts and prayers are with him.
The Giants Tweet-Nation was out in full force last night and anxious to discuss the game LIVE with other Giants fans. The G-Men continued their program of letting fans have their tweets show up on the TV during the LIVE game (Fans be sure to add #GiantsGame to your tweets for a chance to have them show on TV) and some of the faithful were lucky enough to find social media glory. Congrats to all of you who were on TV last night!
I would be lying if I did not admit that the first three preseason games were mostly disappointing even thought the G-men outscored their opponents 54-50 and had a nice win against the Bears. The biggest area of concern has become the special teams. They are simply atrocious. I expect big changes to be made with this group before the regular season starts in 9 days. If not, I predict the team will lose no less then two games because of the poor play on the special teams. I understand that injuries have effected the team (for three straight years in a row now) but that does not excuse the absolute collapse of the Giants special teams group. I cringe during each and every special teams play during the games now. Mark my words about losing no less then two games because of special teams. I do not think they should use WR Jerrel Jernigan as a returner anymore either, keep the kid on the roster as a WR and lets see what he can do.
The Giants must be down to their final 53 man roster by tomorrow and will face the Washington Redskins next Sunday (9/11/11 at 4:15 PM EST) for their first regular season game. Playtime is over!
Let’s take a look at some of my notes from the game.
QB Eli Manning – Manning and the rest of the starters sat out this game in order to rest up for the regular season, which starts in 9 days on 9/11/11.
RB Da’Rel Scott – Scott is simply electrifying and he gets another game ball from me for his performance. He finished with 114 rushing yards and 1 TD and 2 receptions for 20 yards.
S Tyler Sash – Sash once again led the defense in tackles and also caused a forced fumble. I think he has earned a spot on the roster from my perspective.
QB David Carr – Carr had a shaky night but still managed to finish with 116 yards 0 TD’s and 1 INT’s. He should be fine in his backup role this year.
WR Domenik Hixon – Hixon put in some work at WR and finished with 33 yards. I would like to see him take over the returner duties in 2011.
RB Andre Brown – Brown had a very nice game and is deep into the RB competition for a roster spot in a crowded backfield. He played hard last night.
LB Jacquian Williams – I would like to introduce you all to the rookie Mr. Williams who had a huge game. He was all over the place and finished with 3 sacks on the night.
CB Brian Jackson – It was good to see Jackson back on the field and I hope this kid gets a real shot at playing time. He had a nice game and a forced fumble.
WR Devin Thomas – Thomas led all WR’s with 42 yards on the night as he continues to fight for a roster spot like many others. He also returned 4 kickoffs.
QB Ryan Perrilloux – This rookie saw limited playing time but did go 3/4 for 22 yards when he was in the game.
CB Michael Coe – Coe is going to be a big part of the cornerback rotation this year and he had a nice game last night.
K Rhys Lloyd – The Giants continued to try and use Lloyd as a FG kicker, which he is not. He finished 1/3 on FG attempts for the night.
LB Greg Jones – The rookie Jones had a very nice game and finished with a sack to boot.
S Derrick Martin – The veteran Martin scored a TD on a fumble late in the 4th quarter. He was brought in to the team after the G-men lost 4 DB’s in a matter of weeks.
WR Jerrel Jernigan – Jernigan is not the answer for the return game in my opinion. He does however deserve at shot at WR. He scored a big 2-point conversion when given the chance to play WR.
P Matt Dodge – Dodge had another decent game and will learn his fate over the next 48 hours about his roster spot.
LB Clint Sintim – Sintim went down late in the game with a knee injury and had to be carted off the field. Another huge blow to the already depleted roster. Get well soon brother!
LB Mark Herzlich – The birthday boy Herzlich got a sack on his big day and continued to play very good football. This kid earned a roster spot.
DT Dwayne Hendricks – This big fellow and New Jersey native had a really good game and finished with 1 sack and 1 forced fumble.
The Giants Defense – This group finished the game strong, which is all you can ask for. They finished with 8 sacks, 0 INT’s and 3 forced fumbles.

NEW YORK – The battle for New York is always a fun game to watch. This matchup has really heated up in recent years with the resurgence of the Jets over the past three or four seasons. They have become a good team but cannot seem to keep their mouths shut. It is this reason which has added some spice to a rivalry between two teams in the same city but not in the same conference or division. The Jets made the bigger plays tonight when it counted and won the game 17-3. Even though they won this game, the Giants will always be the big brother to the Jets. Everyone in the Tri-state area knows this, including the Jets fan living in denial. So after a crazy weekend where Hurricane Irene pushed back the start of the game, these two sons of New York went on the field and battled.
The first quarter was really slow. Both defenses were playing very well which caused the low scoring first half to end with a 7-3 Jets lead. QB Eli Manning had two interceptions before halftime which was surprising. He hasn’t seemed himself throughout the preseason so far. The Jets really couldn’t do anything against a tough Giants defense the entire first half. The Jets got a lucky return for a bunch of yards and a TD on a short field. Other then that, they really didn’t do much and the first half stats prove it. The Giants special teams had their worst game of the preseason so far and that is really saying something. I hate to say this but I think the Giants might have the worst special teams in the NFL. Another blocked FG and a couple of dropped balls by the rookie Jernigan are only a few of the things that went wrong. This group is the Giants achilles heel without question. The second half of the game was all Jets and the Giants could not score a TD to save their lives. They had a few opportunities to get the ball into the endzone but fell short each time. Brandon Jacobs getting thrown out of the game for fighting did not help. Especially just before a crucial drive from the Jets 1 yard line. The second half was no fun to watch at all and some fans were extremely vocal about their disappointment in the Giants performance. The Giants defense had no sacks or interceptions against the Jets tonight as well.
The Giants are a team that has no cheerleaders for a reason, they want to focus solely on football. So, it was strange to see Snoopy out on the field standing next to a Snoopy trophy which was the prize for the winner tonight. My how times have changed. Snoopy of course is the mascot for MetLife, who recently purchased the naming rights to Giants stadium for the next twenty years. I’m sure it is all in good fun but they may need to get a better trophy next year. These are grown men sacrificing their bodies on the football field and not cartoons out there. The Giants will play the New England Patriots next for their final preseason game on Thursday at 7:30 PM EST and will need to cut down to the final 53 man roster by Saturday. Hold on tight Giants fans, the regular season is right around the corner.
Let’s take a look at some of my notes from the game.
QB Eli Manning – Easy Eli just doesn’t look like himself this year. I’m not sure why. He finished the game with 200 yards 0 TD’s 2 INT’s and was also sacked twice.
WR Hakeem Nicks – Nicks played much more in this game tonight then he has so far in the preseason. He had a good game and finished with 5 receptions for 71 yards.
RB Ahmad Bradshaw – Bradshaw is simply the spark plug for the entire Giants offense. He had another good game and finished with 34 yards.
DE Justin Tuck – Tuck was his usual force to be reckoned with before leaving the game with a burner. He is said to be fine.
RB Brandon Jacobs – Brandon provided a spark for the offense but also got himself kicked out of the game for fighting. He finished with 51 yards.
S Kenny Phillips – Phillips had a very nice game and it was good to see him around the ball so much tonight.
WR Mario Manningham – Super Mario had a nice game and finished with 36 yards. I expect a breakout season from him in 2011.
DE Jason Pierre-Paul – I think I am more excited about seeing JPP play in the real games then any other player. This guy is exciting to watch and had a good game.
QB David Carr – Carr played a lot less tonight since the starters stayed in the game longer. He finished with 36 yards 0 TD’s 0 INT’s for the night.
LB Mathias Kiwanuka – Kiwi was having a very nice game before leaving with a minor groin injury.
S Tyler Sash – The rookie led the entire defense in tackles and is earning his spot on the roster this preseason.
CB Aaron Ross – Ross did a pretty good job tonight and will need to stay healthy in order to really help the team out in 2011.
WR Jerrel Jernigan – This kid had a long night and I really felt bad for him. Nothing seemed to go right for him as a returner. Keep your head up!
K Rhys Lloyd – Lloyd made one 34 yard FG and had another 42 yard FG attempt blocked. He is a kickoff specialist and should be used as such.
P Matt Dodge – Dodge is still having an up and down season but he seems better then last year for sure.
DE Osi Umenyiora – Osi is still on the mend from recent surgery and did not play in this game.
K Lawrence Tynes – Tynes did not play in this game as he is still on the mend from an injury suffered in the first preseason game against the Panthers.

NEW YORK – The New York Giants faced the Chicago Bears on Monday night in the Meadowlands and played one heck of a game. The Giants won 41-13 but did not come out of the game without some bad news, some really bad news. By now, most fans have already read my previous article and know that Big Blue lost star CB Terrell Thomas for the year with a torn ACL on a freak play where DE Jason Pierre-Paul’s leg swung around and hit Thomas in the leg. There could not be any worse news then learning that you lost your No.1 CB for the year. I was surprised because Thomas walked off the field under his own strength and seemed ok. I truly wish him a speedy recovery and I’m sure that the rest of Giants Nation does as well.
The game started out slow in the first quarter but picked up steam from that point on. Going into the second quarter the game was tied up 3-3 and it seemed like fans would be in for a sleeper. But that changed rather quickly once the team started rolling. RB Brandon Jacobs was the spark the team needed to get going and after he scored his touchdown, the Giants never looked back for the rest of the game. The score was 20-6 by halftime and the Giants defense would allow only seven more points for the rest of the game. I’m not sure if this game represented the fact that the G-men have shaken off the rust or that the Bears are just an awful team but hey, a win is a win. This is only a preseason game, so I try not to get too excited but seeing some of those rookies perform so well has me pumped up. Rookie RB Da’Rel Scott gets my game ball. That kid can run like the wind and had the best play of the night when he ran the ball 97 yards for a TD late in the 4th quarter. I hope we get to see more of him real soon.
Fans can expect GM Jerry Reese to bring in a veteran CB sometime this week. I would not be surprised at all if he does so as early as today. With limited time left before the regular season starts, the team will need to bring the new guy up to speed in a very short period of time. The Giants have become very thin at CB and will need to remedy that as quickly as possible.
Let’s take a look at some of my notes from the game.
QB Eli Manning – Manning still looked very shaky out there and finished 8/16 for 78 yards 0 TD 0 INT.
RB Ahmad Bradshaw – Bradshaw was his usual elusive tough self and finished with 15 yards on 5 carries during his short playing time.
WR Hakeem Nicks – Nicks did not do much in this game and played very little. However, I expect big things from him once the regular season starts.
DE Justin Tuck – Tuck had 3 tackles in his limited playing time. He will be ready to rock and roll once September comes around.
RB Da’Rel Scott – This rookie is fast. Scott introduced himself to the football world with a 97-yard TD run late in the 4th quarter. He had only 1 carry but made the most of it. Did I mention how fast he is?
CB Terrell Thomas – The team lost CB Thomas for the year with a torn ACL in the 2nd quarter. This is devastating news. Get well soon T2.
RB Brandon Jacobs – Jacobs was flashing some old school ball running last night and had a good game. He finished with 48 yards on 6 carries and 1 TD.
DE Jason Pierre-Paul – JPP was disruptive at times but NFL teams know about the secret now and will look to stop JPP at all costs. Good luck.
LB Mark Herzlich – The rookie LB got his first NFL INT last night and was a force on special teams. The more I see, the more I like this kid.
WR Victor Cruz – Cruz had a very nice game and led all WR’s with 40 yards on 3 receptions. He is another WR making a case to be the 3rd wideout.
P Matt Dodge – Dodge wasn’t awful last night and seemed to play with a chip on his shoulder as he was punting bombs.
LB Jonathan Goff – Goff had the lone sack of the night for Big Blue and had a good game with limited playing time.
TE Daniel Coats – New Giants TE Coats made a nice play late in the game and finished with 17 yards and 1 TD.
K Lawrence Tynes – Tynes did not play in the game and is on the mend from getting banged up in last weeks game against the Panthers.
RB Danny Ware – Ware scored the only TD in the 3rd quarter but needs to work on holding onto the ball.
K Rhys Lloyd – Lloyd had a solid game for a guy who doesn’t kick FG’s. He went 2/2 on FG attempts and 5/5 on extra point attempts.
WR Mario Manningham – Super Mario had a nice game and finished with 39 yards on 4 receptions. He should have a great 2011 season.
QB David Carr – Carr had an outstanding welcome home party and finished the night by going 9/11 for 84 yards and 2 TD’s. I’m glad he is back with the team.
WR Domenik Hixon – Hixon has been making a case for himself to be the third WR in my opinion. He finished with 13 yards and 1 TD.
DE Osi Umenyiora – Osi did not play in the game as he recovers from recent surgery. I’m glad the team will have him on the roster in 2011.
WR Devin Thomas – Devin did a really nice job returning kickoffs. It was nice to see somebody on special teams step up and play with pride.

NEW YORK – I’ve mentioned how I truly felt this was a must win game for the Giants. I wrote an entire article about this a few days ago. The Giants must have read it because they were able to get the win today by beating the Bills 27-24 in a battle. After losing to the lowly Seahawks last weekend, the G-Men needed not only a moral victory this weekend but also another “W” in the standings to keep their playoff hopes within reach. The Giants were also without some key players today including RB Brandon Jacobs, OL Chris Snee and DE Justin Tuck, all sitting out due to injury.
