NEW YORK – The second contest between the Giants and Eagles this year had become the most anticipated game of the season for both teams. Once the playoff picture and divisional championship picture became clear, it was obvious that this game was going to decide the future of both clubs in the NFC East. The Giants simply dominated the Eagles for the first three quarters of the game and then became undone in the fourth quarter. This was not a very enjoyable game to watch for Giants fans, as Big Blue lost by a score of 38-31 on a punt return by DeSean Jackson with 12 seconds left in the game. The Eagles improve their record to 10-4 and take sole possession of first place in the NFC East, as the Giants fall to 9-5. There were a lot of fights during this game as well. It seemed like there were players locked up with each other after every single play. I almost got physically sick after watching this embarrassing loss.
The Giants were dealt some bad news this week after losing star WR Steve Smith for the rest of the season. Fans were concerned that this would have a negative impact on the Eagles game but the Giants took care of business in that department. The Giants have placed at least 14 players on the season ending injured reserve list. These are star players that I’m talking about in most cases and not just reserve backup players. The G-Men have been devastated by these injuries for the past two years and I’m not sure how they continue to compete at this high level. I guess we need to give GM Jerry Reese credit for making Big Blue a deep team, something that I do with pleasure because Mr. Reese is a genius and I’m glad he is working with the Giants.
The G-men gave fans a scare in the fourth quarter by letting the Eagles get back into the game with a couple of late TD’s. They needed to close the game out strong but were not able to do it. It was much more nerve racking to watch on TV, then it sounds here in words, when the Eagles tied the game up 31-31 with 76 seconds remaining in the game. I was literally pacing around the room for the remainder of the fourth quarter. I found myself on the floor when punter Matt Dodge punted the ball straight to DeSean Jackson, who proceeded to run the ball back for a TD, with zero time on the clock and giving the Eagles the win. My jaw dropped and I could not believe what I had just saw. If the Giants miss the playoffs this season it is their own fault. It’s really horrible that they lost this game today and it will be something that could take years to get over, if ever.
The Giants travel to Wisconsin next weekend to face the Green Bay Packers at 4:15 PM EST in a game that should prove to be a great one with playoff implications.
Let’s take a look at some of my notes from the game.
– QB Eli Manning had a good game today and controlled the offense most of the game. He finished with 289 yards 4 TD’s and 1 INT.
– RB Ahmad Bradshaw contributed on some key plays and finished with 66 yards.
– WR Mario Manningham was thought to have an injury today but had a great day. He finished with 113 yards and 2 TD’s.
– WR Hakeem Nicks continued to roll since his return and finished with 63 yards and 1 TD.
– RB Brandon Jacobs got involved in the offense today and finished with 34 yards.
– TE Kevin Boss had a few nice catches and finished with 59 yards and 1 TD.
– WR Derek Hagan got into the game and made a few catches. He finished with 36 yards.
– DE Justin Tuck played like a madman today and gets my game ball. He led all defensive tacklers and finished with 1.5 sacks.
– S Antrel Rolle continues to show why he was the most important addition to the team in recent years.
– DE Osi Umenyiora had more of an impact on the game then the stats show with some play disruptions.
– K Lawrence Tynes continues to have a solid season by making all of his FG attempts (1) and extra point attempts (4).
– DE Dave Tollefson left the game with a knee injury and did not return.
– P Matt Dodge had a decent game but is still an inconsistent punter by NFL standards. The kid made a horrible punt to DeSean Jackson at the end of the game that was returned for a TD.
– The Giants offensive line was shaky in the first quarter but then returned to form to close out the game. They gave up 2 sacks.
– The Giants defense was all over the field today. They are playing like the second ranked defense that they are. They finished with 3 sacks, 1 INT and 1 forced fumble.
– The Giants special teams continues to be the biggest disappointment of the 2010 season. Today was horrible because they gave up an on-side kick possession and punt return for a TD.
– DC Perry Fewell has done a masterful job in containing QB Michael Vick in both divisional games with the Eagles this year.

NEW YORK – The New York Giants have teamed up with the American Red Cross for their second annual blood drive. Fans who want to help out can go to New Meadowlands stadium this Saturday December 18, 2010 at 7 AM EST – 2 PM EST. This is a great charity the G-men have become involved with and they will be giving out a special T-shirt to all blood donors. Six fans will also be randomly selected to win an autographed football. Not too bad at all huh fans?
Fans will also have access to the Legacy Club in the stadium and have a chance to mingle with Giants alumni members. There are five former Giants players scheduled to appear at the event. Those players include Joe Morris, Howard Cross, Bart Oates, Sean Landetta and Karl Nelson. What a great opportunity to meet these guys and get a photo or autograph from them. I encourage all Giants fans who are able to make it out to the stadium Saturday to do so and lend a hand for a great charity.

NEW YORK – What a weekend for the Giants! In one of the most bizarre situations in recent memory, the Giants faced the Vikings last night in Detroit for a re-scheduled game due to a severe blizzard in Minnesota that caused the Metrodome roof to collapse. If you haven’t seen the video of that roof collapsing, I suggest you do a search for it because it was crazy. The Giants beat the Vikings 21-3 at Ford Field among Lions fans who were given free tickets to the game.
It was a game that had fans up in arms over the fact that the game wasn’t aired on TV in national markets. Some FOX markets showed a message pre-game that said “Due to blackout restrictions rules with ESPN, the game cannot be aired tonight” followed by an apology to the fans. This is disgusting and something the NFL needs to take a long hard look at. The other Monday Night football game on ESPN last night was the Ravens vs. Texans. I cannot remember there ever being two Monday Night football games on at the same time, that was a first for me. Why the football fans had to suffer under these extremely unusual circumstances is beyond me. Have we really become so thoughtless in society, that TV stations are more concerned about the amount of eyes watching their commercials, then they are about the people who pay their salaries with viewership? Last night was a unique situation and should have been handled differently. How about letting FOX stream the game LIVE on their internet website? Something. Anything. But the only thing that happened was, Nothing.
The Giants beat the Vikings in a historical game for both of the starting QB’s. QB Eli Manning had his 100th consecutive start, while QB Brett Favre had his consecutive starts streak end at 297 by a shoulder injury. Easy Eli has the second longest consecutive starts streak in the NFL, he only trails big brother Peyton. It is incredible that the No.1 and No.2 men on the Iron Man list are brothers.
The G-Men were no doubt mentally exhausted from all of the drama over the weekend, so I applaud the team for not complaining about it and going out to do work. They were a little rusty in the first quarter but then turned it on by scoring two TD’s in the second quarter. The 9-4 Giants are on a three game winning streak and face the hated Philadelphia Eagles this weekend at New Meadowlands stadium in a a battle for NFC East supremacy. The game starts at 1 PM EST and should be the game of the week, if both teams play like their seasons depend on a victory (which they do).
Let’s take a look at some of my notes from the game.
– QB Eli Manning had a mediocre game and finished with 187 yards 1 TD 2 INT’s.
– RB Brandon Jacobs had a great game and ran hard all night. He finished with 116 yards and 1 TD.
– TE Kevin Boss was making plays and finished with 23 yards and 1 TD.
– WR Hakeem Nicks returned to the field and made his presence known. He finished with 96 yards.
– S Antrel Rolle led all defensive tacklers last night and continues to be a vocal leader on defense.
– RB Ahmad Bradshaw continues to play like a man possessed. He finished with 103 yards and 1 TD.
– WR Steve Smith saw some action on the field after missing a few weeks and finished with 12 yards. He left the game with a injury.
– WR Mario Manningham left the game early with an injury and did not return. He finished with 1 yard.
– The Giants defense smothered the Vikings all night and knocked out their 6th QB of the year. They finished with 4 sacks and 1 INT.
– DE Justin Tuck had a decent game but got banged up and played hurt the rest of the game.
– LB Clint Sintim was injured in the second quarter and did not return. It looks like a torn ACL and the IR list for Sintim.
– DE Osi Umenyiora attacked the QB all night and finished with 1 sack.
– DE Jason Pierre-Paul was active for a good portion of the game and continues to improve.
– The Giants offensive line gave up only 1 sack last night, the first in the last six games. These guys are awesome.
– The Giants special teams was atrocious once again and their see-saw season continues.
– K Lawrence Tynes made all 3 of his extra point attempts and had no FG attempts.
– P Matt Dodge should receive a one way ticket to palookaville at the end of the season.
– WR Derek Hagan finished the game with 10 yards.
– DC Perry Fewell is the most significant pick up for Big Blue since Coach Spags. He is a beast.
– OC Kevin Gilbride needs to shake things up a bit and stop with the conservative play calling.

NEW YORK – The Giants are having one heck of a weekend. The best Hollywood screen writers could not have made up a better story line, then the one that is still developing for the contest between the New York Giants and the Minnesota Vikings. The Giants were supposed to have an early afternoon game today, just a few hours from now in fact. But something happened on the way to Minnesota that changed the plans permanently. A winter blizzard struck the midwest, pounding Minnesota among other cities and dropping about 20 inches of snow on the area before midnight. Not so bad right? Just wait, the story gets better and still isn’t over by the way.
The Giants, who were traveling during this storm, found themselves stranded in a Kansas City airport and unable to continue their journey due to the foul weather. The team manned up and locked down hotel rooms for the entire team and staff. Rumors began to swirl immediately about the possibility of NFL commish, Roger Goodell, pushing the game back to a later time. Mr. Goodell realized the strange situation was caused by mother nature and obliged by making the game a Monday Night event and changing the start time to 8 PM EST. You made the right call there Mr. Goodell and I applaud you.
Almost immediately after learning of the game change, fans began to voice their displeasure with the news that the game would only be aired in the market cities of New York and Minnesota on FOX. The NFL is working on trying to get the game aired in more markets but no news has come out about the progress. As if all of this weren’t enough, reports came out early this morning about a false alarm being set off at the hotel where the Giants were staying (if true, someone needs to check Brett Favre’s cell phone bill). OK, at this point, the Giants have officially entered the Twilight Zone and find themselves in a situation unlike anything I can remember in my adult life. This is a unique and bizarre scenario that would be comical, if it weren’t so true.
And the cherry on top? Breaking news came out earlier about the Metrodome stadium roof in Minnesota, collapsing under the weight of the heavy snowfall overnight. Apparently, the roof collapsed sometime in the early morning hours around 5 AM EST. So now the question isn’t when will the Giants play the Vikings anymore, since the NFL moved the game to Monday night. The question now becomes, where will the game be played?Speculation has already started first thing this morning that the stadium will not be ready in time for the game tomorrow night. There is no way to know what will happen during this developing story but I can honestly say this is the most bizarre turn of events I have ever witnessed concerning a Giants game.

The New York Giants had to make an unplanned landing in Kansas City today. Their plan left from Newark earlier this morning, but was rerouted to Kansas City when a blizzard hit Minneapolis. ESPN’s Matt Mosley has been providing updates on ESPN’s NFC East blog.
Word is that the G-Men will spend the night in Kansas City and make the reported 1 hour trip for their 1 P.M. start tomorrow morning. The players are said to be in good spirits and Justin Tuck has even been quoted as having said “I bet we end up having a walk-through in one of the hangars”. Hard to tell if he is kidding or not with Coughlin calling the shots.
The league has made no indication as to intentions to move the game back at all, but I am sure they are closley watching how the storm develops and whether or not the team will be able to make it out tomorrow. This will be an interesting developing story to watch; lets just hope it doesn’t affect the players concentration or the way they play against the Vikings on Sunday. In a game that Big Blue is expected to win, and must win, the Giants will need to be focused and sharp as Brett Favre goes for his 298th straight start (he hopes at least) and Eli Manning goes for his 100th straight consecutive start. The Boys in Blue will have some help as Hakeem Nicks, Steve Smith, and David Dehil all hope to return to the field.
We will continue to monitor the situation and try to provide details as they come in.
– STORY UPDATE: The New York Giants vs. Minnesota Vikings game has been moved to Monday night (12-13-10) on FOX at 8 PM EST. It is unclear if the game will air in markets outside of New York and Minnesota areas, the NFL is working on it.

NEW YORK – Hello Giants fans and our nygreporter readers. I have a short story to tell you about something that happened to me on Sunday. If I happen to be home watching the football games on Sunday, I like to go on twitter and talk to my fellow Giants fans and writers about the upcoming game. It has become a fun little thing to do on game days. This past Sunday, Mike Garafolo of the Star-Ledger (big New Jersey newspaper) asked all the Giants fans on twitter to predict the final score of the game against the Redskins. Just something to add a little spice to the day, so I decided to give him my pick which was 31-10. As you all know the final score was 31-7 in a game where the Giants played like they were in the Super Bowl. To make a short story shorter, I had the closest prediction and I won the contest.
So Mike sends me a message asking me to email him, which I do. He then offers to give a shout-out on my behalf, during his video series this week for winning the prediction of the final score. Well, Mr. Garafolo kept his word and you can find the short 6 minute video below, which he ends with a shout-out from us here at the nygreporter. Thanks Mike for keeping your word and making me laugh my butt off when I watched the video and thanks to the Star-Ledger, a great paper for local Jersey news. I’m looking forward to winning the contest again this weekend, when the Giants take on the Vikings in Minnesota. What do I win for back to back winning weeks? Championship Momentum

The Giants have developed a Championship momentum. We have had several quality wins. We have made adjustments that were necessary to make. We have run the ball effectively. We have simplified the offense to Players coming off the street. The approach has been a professional one nonetheless. Players are coming out with a vendetta with a swagger with something to prove.
Derek Hagan and Devin Thomas have made Jerry Reese look like possibly the Executive of the Year. Reese and his team have been very reliable and responsible. The response by the players has been exceptional. Reminded the Giants fans, with me included, that the Front Office knows what they are doing. Coach Pat Flaherty has also reminded us that coaching is more important than millions paid.
Players aren’t soldiers. However, competitive professional athletes perform and prepare like they are preparing for Combat. Big Blue plays like its war on the field. So many Giants deserve Purple Heart mention. Playing while they are hurt and giving it all that they can on the field. Purple Heart players strive to improve in the medical room to get back on the field. The medical staff monitors their healing, the players self-medicate with taking mental reps and attending meetings.
We will face the Vikings this coming Sunday Afternoon. We need this game and we need to sustain our momentum. We should get a few pieces to our Combat Performance Team on the field. Hopefully Hakeem Nicks and Steve Smith will grace us with their presence once again on the field. Hopefully David Diehl will return to bulk up the offensive line and provide depth. They seem eager to get back which is a plus. A New York Giants game can never come soon enough in the week. Let’s Go Big Blue! Another game! Another victim!

Where should I begin? Should I begin with the Offense, Defense, or Special Teams? We have injuries. Yes! But we also have an abundance of talent left on our roster as well as a great coaching staff. I have developed a newborn perspective after reviewing the Big Blue roster and analyzing the timetable for the return of injured players.
A new concept caught my eye. It was keen in fact, just as much my formulated insight. Devin Thomas stood out. Still young and a talent the Giants scouted very highly. He has had some bumps in the road. Some even questioned his dedication, preparation, and professionalism. The Giants have an esteemed reputation for great coaching and positive motivation. I strongly believe this is a great fit for a player like Devin Thomas. I believe with the addition of Clayton and Thomas, the WR Corps can be dangerous. Dangerous because their march is unseen. This move maybe a blessing in disguise. It gives them positive reps with the JetBlue Big 2 out with injuries.
Boss and Beckum are still under the radar. Boss has solidified himself as a down the field threat. However, the game plan doesn’t always utilize is potential for production. The key for the Giants coaching staff is UTILIZATION. I can foresee in the next coming weeks the Giants giving opposing defenses fits with an empty backfield. Think about it. Imagine Having Manningham, Nicks, Smith, Clayton, and Thomas lined up in a 5 WR set. The word to me that comes to mind is Indomitable.
The backfield should yield defenses. DJ Ware couldn’t have arrived at a better time. I would quit using him as Punt/Kick returner. It will give him more playing time and also allow him to adjust to the game speed of the NFL. Also it would allow Jacobs to continue being the Battering Ram that he is. As long as he maintains a North/South mentality instead of East/West. Bradshaw will always be a Cheetah with power seduced with endurance. Keep in mind; both these backs also have the ability to line up in the slot.
The Chemistry of our defensive line will only get better. They are starting to gel while embracing the schemes of Coach Fewell. I strongly believe they can get stronger and better with 4 games left to play. We all know that’s plenty of football. JPP will continue to progress as long as big brothers Tuck and Osi continue to mentor him as he gains confidence. The only concern I have which seems to be traditional for the Giants is the play of our secondary. Poor tackling and mental mistakes will keep us from making a trip to Dallas in early February 2011. Accountability on third and longs can be a short term cure for what has been a long term problem.
Special teams would be a dream if we can stop putting opposing offenses in good field position. Down field tackling definitely needs work. P Matt Dodge is more of a mystery than the Big Bang Theory. He is young and has shown flashed of being able to get the job done. However, inconsistency will keep any player unemployed in the NFL regardless of talent. We cure our tackling and punting issues and the Giants, in my eyes, can be Super Bowl winners not Contenders. Let’s get it Big Blue!

NEW YORK – The Giants have had an up and down month. They lost two games they should have won to division rivals Dallas and Philadelphia, then turned things around and won their last two games against the Jaguars and Redskins. It is hard to measure how good New York is at this point in the season but if last week was any measurement, they are ready for the playoffs right now. Playoffs? We’re talking about playoffs? I sure am. The Giants are 8-4 and tied for first place (with the Eagles) in the NFC East with week 14 approaching. If there was ever a good time to start talking about the playoffs, it would be this week.
I fully expect the Giants to invade Minnesota on Sunday and come out with the win. I have said repeatedly that the G-Men will need to win half of their remaining four games in order to have a good shot at making it back to the post season with a 10-6 record. This is a very realistic possibility considering the remaining four games which are the Vikings, Eagles, Packers and Redskins. The obvious two games the Giants should win out of these four are the Vikings and Redskins. But I fully expect them to give the Eagles another tough game after losing to them a couple of weeks ago. The Packers are the toughest team out of the the four and they were my pick to make the Super Bowl prior to the 2010 NFL Season. They have been on a roll as of late and should be a very tough opponent.
But one thing at a time here. Big Blue will need to focus on beating the Vikings this weekend, the Vikes are having a rough season and seem hungry to finish their season strong. They still have Adrian Peterson, a banged up Brett Favre and a fully rested Sydney Rice, who had a monster game last week. Their defense is respectable and they will be playing at home. The Giants are still missing key offensive players, who could return within the next week or two and should help their playoff run. Let’s not forget, the numbers don’t lie. The Giants have the No.2 overall defense in the NFL and the No.4 overall offense. You don’t get that type of balance as a team unless you have a deep team and well coached players. The Giants achilles heel so far this season has been their special teams corps. If the special teams can catch up with the offense and defense, then this would be a Super Bowl contender no doubt.
The Giants game plan for the remainder of the season is simple. Play smart football and stop turning the ball over, keep the penalties to a minimum, keep the play calling aggressive on both sides of the ball and simply stay healthy and have fun. If the Giants can do these things, they will absolutely find themselves beating the Vikings on Sunday and making it back to the playoffs. I predict a Giants victory over the Vikings by the score of 28-20.

NEW YORK – The New York Giants faced their old division rival Donovan McNabb and the Washington Redskins on Sunday afternoon. The Redskins came into the game with the worst defense in the entire NFL (ranked 32nd overall) and the G-Men had won four in a row against them. New York entered the game ranked with the No.2 overall defense in the NFL. The G-Men also had the No.3 overall offense in the NFL. This game should have been a stepping stone game to get the Giants through week 13 and focused on some better talent down the road. In other words, they needed to beat a team they were expected to beat. The Giants answered the call and got the victory, beating Washington 31-7.
The Giants played an awesome first half of football and dominated the Redskins on both sides of the ball. The Giants went into the locker room at halftime with a 21-0 lead. The Big Blue rushing attack was particularly impressive in this game and seemed to be the number one offensive option for the majority of the contest. It is possible that the windy conditions in New Meadowlands stadium had something to do with OC Kevin Gilbride’s strategy and the wind even helped Big Blue with pushing a FG attempt by Washington wide left. The team finished the game strong in the second half and continued to do whatever they wanted on the field. This was an extremely fun game to watch and the Giants players had smiles on their faces from the first quarter until the end of the game.
The Giants will play the Vikings next Sunday in Minnesota at 1PM EST. The Vikings have had a poor season by their recent standards but should still be considered a dangerous team filled with star players. Big Blue have four games left and will need to win half of them to make the playoffs in my opinion. It looks like the Giants and Eagles (both 8-4) will be the final two teams battling it out for the NFC East Champions title.
Let’s take a look at some of my notes from this afternoons game.
– QB Eli Manning didn’t do much on this windy day but hand the ball off. He finished with 161 yards 0 TD’s 1 INT.
– RB Ahmad Bradshaw ran hard the whole entire game and finished with 97 yards and 2 TD’s. He also topped 1,000 yards for the year.
– DE Justin Tuck had a very nice game and finished with 1 sack and 2 forced fumbles.
– WR Mario Manningham was mostly non existent the entire game and finished with 36 yards.
– RB Brandon Jacobs had a great game as the starting RB and finished with 103 yards and 2 TD’s.
– DE Jason Pierre-Paul had another solid performance with limited playing time. He finished with 2 sacks again for the second straight week.
– TE Kevin Boss got a few passes thrown his way and finished with 28 yards.
– DT Barry Cofield led all defensive tacklers with 7 and had another solid game for the G-Men.
– DE Osi Umenyiora had a nice game and finished with 1 sack and 1 forced fumble.
– WR Derek Hagan had a surprisingly busy day and finished with 65 yards.
– The Giants defense continued their stellar season with an awesome game and finished with 4 sacks, 2 INT’s, 6 forced fumbles and 4 fumble recoveries.
– The Giants offensive line set a franchise record for consecutive games (five) without giving up a sack.
– The Giants special teams even got into the action today with a good game. They blocked a punt and had some good kicks and punts.
– K Lawrence Tynes made his only FG attempt and all 4 of his extra point attempts.

NEW YORK – The second contest between the Giants and Eagles this year had become the most anticipated game of the season for both teams. Once the playoff picture and divisional championship picture became clear, it was obvious that this game was going to decide the future of both clubs in the NFC East. The Giants simply dominated the Eagles for the first three quarters of the game and then became undone in the fourth quarter. This was not a very enjoyable game to watch for Giants fans, as Big Blue lost by a score of 38-31 on a punt return by DeSean Jackson with 12 seconds left in the game. The Eagles improve their record to 10-4 and take sole possession of first place in the NFC East, as the Giants fall to 9-5. There were a lot of fights during this game as well. It seemed like there were players locked up with each other after every single play. I almost got physically sick after watching this embarrassing loss.
