NFL Week 15: Giants vs. Redskins, Game Notes

December 18, 2011

NEW YORK – The Giants played the division rival Redskins today in a big game. The G-Men and fans were looking to avenge the opening day loss to Washington with a sweet revenge victory at MetLife stadium. The Redskins weren’t having it and beat up the G-Men the whole game before winning 23-10. As if the playoff picture needed any further clarity, the Giants will need to win both of their final regular season games if they want to make it back to the playoffs. The G-Men face a very good New York Jets team next weekend on Christmas Eve at 1:00 PM EST. It’s the Game of the Week as far as I’m concerned. This year, the battle for New York will be televised.

The Redskins scored in every quarter of this game and seemed to do whatever they wanted on offense. The Giants QB Eli Manning was intercepted three times and had 0 TD’s. There were some dropped balls in this game that had fans frustrated. The first half was brutal to watch as Washington moved the ball at will and quickly dropped 10 points on the Giants. The Redskins took a 17-3 lead into the locker room at halftime and the Giants were to receive the ball for the start of the third quarter. The Giants offense was anemic and could not make any big plays, they really seemed to be playing in slow motion. The Giants scored a garbage TD late in the 4th quarter but the damage was done. The Giants ran out of time and lost a game they should have won.

Let’s take a look at my notes from the game.

QB Eli Manning – Manning had a frustrating day and finished with 257 yards 0 TD’s and 3 INT’s.

RB Ahmad Bradshaw – AB had a quiet game despite scoring a late TD in the 4th quarter.

WR Hakeem Nicks – Nicks led all WR’s for Big Blue and finished with 73 yards 0 TD’s.

DE Justin Tuck – Justin Tuck got banged up early but continued to play. He was in on some big plays.

LB Michael Boley – Boley was making plays all over the field as usual. He finished 2nd on the team in tackles.

WR Mario Manningham – Super Mario was second on the team for WR’s and finished with 57 yards.

LB Mathias Kiawnuka – Kiwi was making some hard hits out there and causing havoc.

DE Jason Pierre-Paul – You down with JPP? The Beast led all tacklers on defense and also had 1 sack.

WR Victor Cruz – Cruz had a quiet day by his recent standards. He finished with 44 yards.

S Kenny Phillips – Phillips had a nice game and finished with 1 INT.

RB Brandon Jacobs – Brandon the Bull had a quiet game and finished with 33 yards 0 TD’s.

S Antrel Rolle – Rolle was balling out there and making big hits. He finished with a couple of big plays his way.

TE Jake Ballard – Ballard got banged up and is scheduled for an MRI tomorrow. He finished with 15 yards.

CB Aaron Ross – Ross had a decent game and did his best out there.

DT Chris Canty – Canty was fired up for this game and made a couple of big hits out there.

CB Corey Webster – Webster continues to make plays on the field and he also nabbed 1 INT.

DT Linval Joseph – Linval had a quiet game by his recent standards. He is becoming a force in the NFL.

CB Prince Amukamara – Prince is basically being thrown into the fire. He will learn from this year and get better.

P Steve Weatherford – The Weatherman continues his consistent play and has become a fan favorite.

K Lawrence Tynes – Tynes missed a FG attempt and made his only other attempt. He also made one extra point.

Giants Offense – The offense seemed sluggish and out of sync today. I was very disappointed with their performance.

Giants Defense – The defense could not stop the Redskins to save their lives today. They must forget about it and focus on the Jets.

Giants Special Teams – Once again, this group will be overhauled in a few weeks. Reese will make the right moves.

12/18/11 Christmas DAC Day 18, Game Day Fact

December 18, 2011

NEW YORK – The Giants (7-6 record) play the Redskins at MetLife stadium (Giants stadium) today at 1:00 PM EST. They are about to avenge the opening day loss to Washington. I believe the Giants will win this game out right and very convincingly. My final score prediction is Giants 42 – Redskins 27. The Giants front four on defense will get to the Redskins QB Rex Grossman often. Look for DE Jason Pierre-Paul to have another brilliant game. JPP and Easy Eli are the two ‘sure things’ for the Pro Bowl from Big Blue in my opinion. WR Victor Cruz is making a nice argument for himself too. The G-Men will need all of these guys to step up in order to beat a Redskins team that isn’t so bad really. They had a hot start in the beginning of the year and now find themselves in the middle of the pack (4-9 record) like the rest of the NFC East. Washington lost TE Fred Davis over suspensions and WR Santana Moss is returning from a bad injury. The Redskins defense is middle of the pack and their running game stinks just like the Giants, both are ranked 30th and 31st respectively. I expect the Giants defense to collect 3 sacks minimum.

Big Blue then faces the Jets on Christmas Eve for New York bragging rights. The Jets are going to shut down WR Hakeem Nicks with Revis Island and the running game will struggle. I look for WR Victor Cruz and TE Jake Ballard to have a big day along with QB Eli Manning. The Giants passing attack is potent with many contributors. The Jets simply do not have enough Revis islands to cover all of the Giants threats. If it were up to me, I would run a lot of 4 WR sets against the Jets defensive backfield and dare them to blitz. Manning excels at play action passing.

The really important game will come on New Year’s Day when the Giants face the Cowboys in Metlife stadium for the season finale. I believe the Jets will be the toughest game of all three. The Giants should beat the Redskins and have already beaten the Cowboys this year. The Jets defense is a top ranked defense and I am anxious to see how our top rated passing offense does against them. Look for RB Brandon Jacobs to score a goal line TD and RB Ahmad Bradshaw to break off a long run for a TD with a big play. The bulk of the blow out points will come from Manning throwing 3 or 4 TD’s with maybe 1 INT. The Giants control their own destiny.

DAC Fact

Beating the Redskins is one of the keys to making it back to the playoffs for Big Blue. Do you know how many times the Giants have made an appearance in the playoffs? Can you believe 30 times since 1933! The 1970’s are the only decade since the 1930’s, that the G-Men failed to make the post season. In recent years, the Giants have made the playoffs six times from 2000-2010.

Do you think the Giants will beat the Redskins today?

NFL Week 14: Giants vs. Cowboys, Game Notes

December 12, 2011

NEW YORK – The game last night was something to see. It was hands down the best and most exciting game of the year for Big Blue. The Giants pulled out the win 37-34 in a battle. There were a ton of lead changes and despite the horrible calls by the refs, the Giants found a way to win. They are now in first place of the NFC East and control their own playoff destiny. The G-Men will need to win one of the two upcoming games against the Redskins or Jets and then they need to win the final game of the year against the Cowboys in MetLife stadium. Actually, all three of their final games will be played in MetLife stadium (Giants stadium), even though the Jets game is considered a home game for Sanchez and company.

The first half was up and down with both teams scoring at will. They went into the locker room with Dallas leading 17-15. The Giants got a rare safety for 2 points and those were the first points on the board for either team. The second half was much of the same with both teams scoring a lot and taking advantage of the depleted defensive squads. The heart attack Giants won this game in the final two minutes and Manning notched his sixth 4th quarter comeback victory of the season. Dallas had a chance to send the game into overtime but a blocked FG by Jason Pierre-Paul put an end to all of that.

Let’s take a look at my notes from the game.

QB Eli Manning – Easy Eli had a terrific game once again and has eclipsed the 4,000 yard passing mark for a third straight year. He finished with 400 yards 2 TD’s 1 INT. He should make the Pro Bowl.

RB Brandon Jacobs – Brandon the Bull was playing like a mad man last night. He finished with 101 yards and 2 TD’s. Nice job Brandon!

WR Hakeem Nicks – Nicks had a great game too and was pulling down everything thrown his way. He finished with 157 yards 0 TD’s.

DE Jason Pierre-Paul – I’m convinced that JPP is not from earth. He gets my game ball and single handedly saved the Giants season. He finished with 2 sacks, 1 forced fumble and 1 blocked punt. He also led the entire defense in tackles. Wow!

LB Michael Boley – Every time I saw a Cowboys player get rocked, I saw Boley bouncing up from the ground. The guy is awesome and finished second on the team in tackles.

WR Mario Manningham – Super Mario made his presence known with 62 yards and 1 TD. Way to go Mario!

S Antrel Rolle – The hard hitting safety was making plays out there and doing his best against the speedy Dallas WR’s.

RB Ahmad Bradshaw – AB was shut down for the first half for a team violation. He finished with 12 yards. Well below my prediction of a big game. He will be fine and ready to go next week.

DT Chris Canty – Canty’s return to Dallas wasn’t a warm and fuzzy reunion. He made some plays out there and finished with 1 sack.

LB Jacquian Williams – I saw this kid making a lot of plays out there. I saw him miss a few too but he is outstanding for a rookie thrown into the fire. He has a bright future in New York.

CB Prince Amukamara – Prince is still learning the system and getting his feet under him. He finished third on the defense in tackles.

TE Jake Ballard – Big Jake is the real deal and Manning’s favorite safety valve. He finished with 52 yards and 1 TD.

S Deon Grant – The crafty veteran had a solid game once again and finished with 1 fumble recovery.

LB Mathias Kiwanuka – Kiwi is fast for a guy his size. You don’t realize how big he is from the way he flies around on the field. He had a great game.

WR Victor Cruz – Cruz finished second on the team in receiving and had 82 yards. That’s a good game by most standards.

CB Aaron Ross – Ross continues to do his best while filling in for Terrell Thomas. He made some plays out there against Dallas.

DE Justin Tuck – Tuck left the game in the first half with an injured toe but returned. He had a decent game but can play better.

P Steve Weatherford – This guy is Mr. Consistency. Fans are glad this is one area of the team that is no longer an issue. Good job Steve!

K Lawrence Tynes – Tynes had a good game and finished with 2 FG’s. He also made all 3 of his extra point attempts.

Giants Offense – The offense had a great game and won the shoot out against the Cowboys. Eli Manning is playing out of his mind right now.

Giants Defense – It’s no secret that the injury riddled Giants defense has become the achilles heel. They are doing their best with who they have.

Giants Special Teams – The special teams blocked a FG that gave the G-men the win. I would say they did a good job in this game.

NFL Week 13: Giants vs. Packers, Game Notes

December 5, 2011

NEW YORK – The Giants faced the undefeated Green Bay Packers in another NFC battle. The Giants desperately need some wins to keep their playoff hopes alive. Unfortunately, the G-Men were not able to pull out the win after a hard fought game. They lost to the Green Bay Packers 38-35. I have to take my hat off to Big Blue because they played their hearts out but they still need some wins and soon or they will miss the playoffs for a third straight year. Unacceptable in the City of New York. The Giants and Packers each scored in every single quarter of play and I really believe it could have gone either way at the end. The G-Men fall to 6-6 with four games left in the season.

Of course, all of Giants nation is upset with the loss because the loss effects our playoff hopes. Some of the fair weather fans were really laying into the Giants last night. Instead of saying, the Giants are playing the best team in the NFL and doing very well. They say, the Giants stink in all of this angry and unhelpful venting. The picture is very clear now. The Giants need to win all of their last four games to make it back to the playoffs. They might be able to squeak in with three wins but the NFC East is so tight right now with the Cowboys that four wins would be better.

Let’s take a look at my notes from the game.

QB Eli Manning – Manning had another outstanding game. He finished with 347 yards 3 TD’s and 1 INT.

RB Brandon Jacobs – Jacobs ran hard again yesterday and finished with 59 yards and 1 TD leading all rushers.

WR Hakeem Nicks – Nicks exploded for 2 TD’s and 88 yards. He is playing on a Pro Bowl level right now.

DE Justin Tuck – Defensive captain Justin “Truck” had another good game and finished with 1 sack.

LB Chase Blackburn – Blackburn made his return to the field for Big Blue yesterday and came away with an INT. Welcome home Chase!

RB Ahmad Bradshaw – Bradshaw returned to the field after missing a few games due to injury. He was rusty but finished with 38 yards.

LB Mathias Kiwanuka – Kiwi hits hard. He had a good game and was laying out people on the field

S Antrel Rolle – Rolle is a force to be reckoned with out there and finished 3rd on the team in tackles.

TE Jake Ballard – Ballard had another productive game and contributed 47 yards. He has stepped up big time this year.

DE Jason Pierre-Paul – JPP better make it to the Pro Bowl this year. He had another solid game causing havoc.

WR Victor Cruz – Cruz should be in the Pro Bowl this year too. He had a great game finishing with 119 yards.

DT Linval Joseph – Joseph has really been playing well the past few weeks. This week, he led all tacklers on the Giants defense.

CB Aaron Ross – Ross continues to produce out there finishing 4th in tackles. He misses some plays but is doing a good job overall.

DE Dave Tollefson – Tollefson always seems to make a big play in each game he plays in. He finished with 1 sack.

LB Michael Boley – Boley returned to the field from injury and boy am I glad he is back. One of our defensive leaders returns!

TE Travis Beckum – Beckum made his one catch count, going 67 yards for the TD early in the game. Nice going Travis!

P Steve Weatherford – The Weatherman continues his great season with another solid game. You can’t deny his production.

K Lawrence Tynes – Tynes made a huge FG in the 1st quarter and finished 2/2 on FG attempts and made all 3 of his extra point attempts.

Giants Offense – The Giants offense had a great game and put up 447 yards and 35 points on the Packers defense.

Giants Defense – The Giants defense is clearly injury depleted and doing what they can out there. They finished with 2 sacks 1 INT 0 forced fumbles.

Giants Special Teams – The Giants special teams needs work but they did a good job yesterday.

NFL Week 12: Giants vs. Saints, Game Notes

November 29, 2011

NEW YORK – It doesn’t get much bigger then Monday Night Football, when it comes to a national stage. The Giants had this game marked on the calendar before the season started. The Giants have been running the table in the NFC East but lately the Cowboys have been working their way back into the mix. Beating the Saints would send a message to the league and get them closer to that ‘ten win’ mark we all think would solidify a playoff berth. But it wasn’t meant to be and the Giants lost 49-24 in a thorough beating by QB Drew Brees and the Saints. Fans were losing their minds in frustration at what was perceived to be a lack of effort. One thing is for sure, the Giants can’t blame the refs for this one. The G-Men (4 penalties) seemed to be getting every call going in their favor and the Saints finished with 11 penalties called against them.

The Saints were moving the ball at will against the Giants defense. The first half had me squirming in my seat as usual and the air of hope remained when the score was 7-3 in the 1st quarter, which quickly became 14-3 and then 21-3 at halftime before settling in at 21-10 early in the 3rd quarter. It was still a competitive game and the air of hope, still seemed possible. That is until the Saints scored 28 more points in the second half. The Giants offense did their job in my opinion with putting up 465 total yards of offense and 24 points. They should have scored at least one or two more TD’s though and made the Saints defense look good. My 10 year old nephew will no doubt tell me that the reason the Giants lost was because I fell asleep with a few minutes left in the game. He is convinced we control the fate of sports teams by watching the entire game on TV from beginning to end. Maybe he is right. But sometimes I’m right too, like my pre-game prediction via twitter saying DE Jason Pierre-Paul would have a great game. JPP led the entire defense in tackles. Nice job Jason! Have fun in Hawaii.

In my heart, I believe the Giants lost this game simply because statistically, the defense had one of their worst games of the year. The defensive stat line is empty. No INT’s, no sacks and no forced fumbles. The Giants defense did nothing to prevent Brees from exploding for 4 TD’s and the Saints from scoring 49 points. Our passing game was good, our running game was decent. I thought the G-Men would have put up more points on the Saints defense. A couple of turnovers in a shoot out makes all of the difference when the music stops. Besides the INT, the Giants had 4 fumbles of which they lost one. IDR. IDR is my new term for Injury Depleted Roster. The Giants have IDR and the only known cure for this pandemic, is to get healthy star players on the field. The Giants should have 9 wins right now in my opinion. Instead they fall to 6-5 and drop to second place in the NFC East, behind the Cowboys.

Let’s take a look at some of my notes from the game.

QB Eli Manning – Manning had another good game. He finished with 406 yards 2 TD’s and 1 INT. By the way, Manning just breached the 26,000 career passing yards mark and now has 26,004. Way to go!

RB Brandon Jacobs – Jacobs was running hard but hasn’t been as productive as Bradshaw yet. He finished with 46 yards and 1 TD.

WR Hakeem Nicks – Nicks manned up after getting hit hard in this game. He finished with 87 yards.

S Chad Jones – Jones was on the sidelines with his teammates and could not stop smiling. Chad was in an auto accident shortly after the draft and hasn’t played yet. We’ve got nothing but love for Chad!

DE Justin Tuck – Tuck was very active in this game but could not get to the quarterback. He finished third in tackles.

TE Jake Ballard – Ballard had another productive game and is playing on an elite level this year. He finished with 47 yards.

S Antrel Rolle – Rolle was making plays all over the field and finished second on the team in tackles.

CB Prince Amukamara – Prince is a good luck charm I think. He recovered a fumble early in the game making it back to back games with turnovers for the rookie CB.

DE Osi Umenyiora – Osi had a quiet night and hurt his ankle. He left the game and did not play in the second half. Get well soon Osi!

WR Mario Manningham – Super Mario missed this game due to a knee injury. Get well soon Mario!

DE Jason Pierre-Paul – JPP led the entire defense in tackles and was playing hard out there. I love this guy!

LB Greg Jones – Jones was in the mix out there and making plays. The ‘Fresh Three’ or Freshman three rookie LB’s are playing good football.

WR Victor Cruz – Cruz is an elite NFL WR. How do I know this? The numbers don’t lie. Cruz finished with 157 yards and 2 TD’s.

S Kenny Phillips – Phillips will no doubt get fined for a brutal hit he made on TE Jimmy Graham. That hurt just watching it.

LB Jacquian Williams – Williams had a good game and I have to remind myself that he is a rookie sometimes with the way he plays.

RB DJ Ware – Ware was out there blocking and contributing. He finished with 23 yards.

CB Aaron Ross – Ross had a good game but also missed some plays out there. He wasn’t alone in his sub par play however.

LB Mark Herzlich – This rookie LB plays like an African Lion on Animal Planet. I mentioned that on twitter last night. Fun to watch.

OT William Beatty – The Giants will be without the starting left tackle for up to a month or so. Get well soon William!

RB Da’Rel Scott – The rookie RB fumbled and turned the ball over. I love the guy and know he will be a huge asset for the Giants down the road.

CB Michael Coe – Coe was lost for the season and has been placed on the IR list. Get well soon Mike!

LB Michael Boley – Giants defensive leader Boley, will miss more time and is already sorely missed by the team. Get well soon Mike!

P Steve Weatherford – Say what you want, we lost by 25 points, I like that Weatherford has enough heart to run if his number is called on a fake punt. He also been solid with punting.

K Lawrence Tynes – Tynes went 1/2 on FG attempts for the night and made all 3 of his extra point attempts.

Giants Offense – I think the Giants offense did their job. Turnovers cost them points but they were moving the ball.

Giants Defense – This was probably the worst performance I’ve seen from this group all year in every aspect. I’m glad it is out of the way now. They finished with 0 sacks, 0 INT’s and 0 forced fumbles.

Giants Special Teams – Still, the achilles heel of the Giants and three headed monster of all NFL teams, Offense, Defense and Special teams.

What did you think of the Giants performance against the Saints on Monday Night Football?

Can Giants Beat NFC South Saints in New Orleans?

November 25, 2011

NEW YORK – It is amazing how dominant the NFC has been this year. The AFC is almost completely devoid of it’s former star teams, such as the Colts (0-10). The great teams of today are clearly the NFC  Packers (11-0), Saints (7-3), 49ers (9-2), Giants (6-4) and Cowboys (7-4) just to name a few. The AFC has the Patriots (7-3), Ravens (8-3) and Steelers (7-3) but all of those teams are not what they once were. The Ravens have been the best of the bunch this year. The NFC is deep with talented football teams, take a look at the standings and even teams like the Panthers, Falcons, Bears and Eagles are all young and exciting clubs to watch. If your team doesn’t win the division outright, it will be no easy task making the playoffs. NFC teams are explosive and can win big at anytime. The Giants need this win to keep up the pace with the pack.

All of this takes us to the Giants battle with the Saints on Monday Night Football in New Orleans. This is going to be a knock out brawl of a game in my opinion. Coming into this game, the Saints have the No.1 ranked offense in the NFL, while the Giants are ranked No.13 offensively. On the other side of the ball, the Saints are ranked No.20 defensively, while the Giants come in at the No.21 spot for defense in the NFL. The numbers don’t lie. How often do we hear that phrase? Being the No.1 ranked offense in the NFL is a statement and a wall to get over.

The Giants defense is going up against the elite of the elite, No.1 ranked offense in the NFL. That is a dramatic thing for any team to contend with but with Big Blue missing half of their starting defense to injury, don’t think the Saints won’t look to exploit the secondary. QB Drew Brees is too smart and too talented to hold under three touchdowns in my opinion for any team in the NFL. Other Saints stars to keep an eye on are TE Jimmy Graham, RB Darren Sproles, WR Marques Colston, RB Mark Ingram and WR Lance Moore. Watch the TE Graham closely.

For the Giants, I expect TE Jake Ballard and WR Mario Manningham to figure in for a bunch of yards and maybe a TD or two. You cannot overlook WR Victor Cruz who can easily end the night with 100 yards and 1 TD. Brandon the Bull will be looking for some respect and running hard in Who Dat land. Makes you wonder why I haven’t mentioned stud No.1 WR Hakeem Nicks yet. Because I’m saving the best for last. if this guy gets going he can put up 125 yards and 2 TD’s before halftime. Keep an eye on 88 and let’s see if this is one of those nights. The players need to hold onto the ball when it is thrown to them and players need to stop making so many mental errors on the field resulting in penalties. If the G-Men can improve these two areas on Monday night, I think they have a real chance at beating the Saints. My final score prediction is Giants 38 – Saints 35, the Giants win because they know they have to right now.

Where would you rank the New York Giants in the NFC at this point of the season? Will the Giants beat the Saints on Monday Night Football?

Happy Thanksgiving to our Readers and Giants Fans

November 24, 2011

NEW YORK – Hello Giants fans, I would like to wish you and your family a very Happy Thanksgiving! I would also like to wish the players, staff and coaches a very Happy Thanksgiving and their families as well. This includes Kate Mara (follow back @nygreporter or have your agent email me, I want to interview you) and both the Mara and Tisch family owners. I would like to thank all of you for the classy way you conduct business and for the entertainment you have given my family for generations. I still firmly believe the Giants will be back in the playoffs this year.

I hope all of you can think of something to be thankful for this holiday season. I have heard a saying that goes “You buy the ticket, you take the ride”. It means no complaining, you take the ride of life and one thing leads to another and based on your choices, an outcome blossoms. Today is the perfect day to call an old friend or family member you haven’t spoken to in a while. Have them pass the phone around the room and catch up with everyone. Some of you can’t be home for the holidays, I have been there myself once or twice. Keep your head up and maybe things will be different next year. To the military stationed all over the world, you are not forgotten. Thank you for your service for your country. I hope all of you have some peace this year and get to enjoy yourselves a bit. If you see someone in uniform, stop them and shake their hand.

The Giants play the Saints and QB Drew Brees on Monday Night Football. This is going to be a very difficult game to win but knowing the G-Men, they could end up blowing them out by 25 points. I believe the Giants can beat anyone but the Saints and Packers were clearly the top two teams we had to play all year. The first of the two is about to go down on Monday night. The Giants must stop Saints TE Jimmy Graham (force the Saints to use a TE as blocker in defensive scheme), RB Darren Sproles and the defensive ends must get to Brees often. QB Eli Manning must have one of his standard big games to get Big Blue that seventh win of the year. Be safe and be smart, drink responsibly.

NFL Week 11: Giants vs. Eagles, Game Notes

November 21, 2011

NEW YORK – The Giants played host to the Eagles on Sunday Night Football in part two of their annual clash. The “Dream Team” was 3-6 and almost mathematically eliminated from the playoffs. That was the reality of their situation until they beat the Giants 17-10 and improved to 4-6 on the year. Both teams were missing key players like NYG-RB Bradshaw, NYG-LB Boley, PHI-QB Vick and PHI-WR Maclin who were all ruled out prior to game) and did the best they could depth wise. Another handful of Giants players left the game, like RB DJ Ware who left with a concussion and OL Chris Snee who needed an early IV. In one of the rare times that my final score prediction is way off, I’ll admit I was completely wrong when I said the final score would be Giants 38 – Eagles 21 with the G-Men winning by 15.

These two teams had a brawl last night. QB Eli Manning was one of the many players who got roughed up more then once and players had to stay on their toes or get stomped. These teams were fighting hard out there and literal fights were breaking out on the field all night. DeSean Jackson is a classless rube who doesn’t seem to realize that video of his actions will remain forever. The fact that he continues to be so immature is not only pitiful, it also hurts his team. Watching the game last night is the closest thing to a sad opera (the Luciano Pavarotti kind, not the soap kind) that I can think of. The G-men are missing players and more are going down out there, all while they try but cannot seem to move the ball very well. The running game was atrocious most of the game and wide receivers could not seem to pull down sure catches bouncing off their hands. Hey, everyone misses catches sometimes but the problem with this group of misses, is the timing. All of them happening at once like that feels overwhelming. All of this leading up to the grand finale of losing the game.

The Eagles took a 10-3 lead into the locker room at halftime and came out feeling more motivated then when they went inside. And although everyone was sure a 4th quarter comeback would be pulled off by QB Eli Manning, far too many penalties (5/39), sacks (3) and turnovers (2) made sure that would never happen. The second half played out like watching paint dry. Slow and sloppy play made me feel like I was in an episode of the Twilight Zone. The game ended with Giants stadium mostly silent and fans upset after back to back losses.

Let’s take a look at some of my notes from the game.

QB Eli Manning – Manning did everything he could to try and win this game. There were a lot of dropped passes and he finished with 264 yards 1 TD and 1 INT.

RB Brandon Jacobs – Jacobs was trying to run hard but the Eagles employed a swarm policy on Brandon. He finished with 21 yards 0 TD’s.

WR Hakeem Nicks – Nicks had a good game and finished with 69 yards, Not bad considering who was covering him.

DE Osi Umenyiora – Osi told the press he will see Eagles RB LeSean McCoy on the field in regards to some preseason trash talk. There is no doubt that McCoy is hurting today.

CB Prince Amukamara – The rookie CB finally made his debut and did not disappoint finishing 2nd on the team in tackles and grabbing 1 INT. Congrats Prince!

LB Mathias Kiwanuka – Kiwi went beast on the Eagles and had his best game of the year. He led all tacklers on defense.

DE Justin Tuck – Tuck was battling all night and had a good game. He put some serious pressure on QB Vince Young.

DT Chris Canty – ‘The Thing’ as I like to call him, Canty had a good game. He has played well in the past two or three games in a row now.

WR Mario Manningham – Super Mario had a very quiet night, finishing with one catch for four yards.

S Antrel Rolle – The final stats don’t show it but Rolle was making some serious plays out there.

LB Jacquian Williams – The rookie LB had another solid game. I am very impressed with this young man.

WR Victor Cruz – The red hot NJ native finished first on the team in receiving with 128 yards and 1 TD. Vic is for real.

DE Jason Pierre-Paul – JPP looked absolutely slaphappy at times out there while creating havoc for the Eagles offensive line. He also had 1 sack.

TE Jake Ballard – Ballard had a very quiet game and finished with 13 yards 0 TD’s.

CB Aaron Ross – Ross continues to make INT’s by getting another against the Eagles. He has tied his career high (4) for INT’s in a season.

S Kenny Phillips – Phillips says don’t forget about me, grabbing 1 INT of his own. Phillips is really playing on another level this year.

LB Mark Herzlich – Mark had a good debut game and was fired up for getting the start. He has a good football sense and seems to always be around the ball.

S Deon Grant – Grant is a fan favorite now. He had another solid game and brought some toughness to each play. Let him retire a Giant one day.

RB Ahmad Bradshaw – Bradshaw missed another game this week with a bad wheel but could be back in time for the Saints game. The Giants need AB bad.

LB Michael Boley – Mike was injured during the 49ers game and had to miss this week versus the Eagles. The G-Men really need Boley back ASAP.

P Steve Weatherford – Giants fans have fallen completely in love with the Weatherman (I’m Ron Burgundy voice) and calling him MVP over the web.

K Lawrence Tynes – Tynes continued his mediocre season by kicking 1 FG and 1 extra point. Still, he is making his kicks.

Giants Offense – The Giants offense did all it could with the players they had. They really miss RB Ahmad Bradshaw in New York and him back soon.

Giants Defense – Even with getting all of the turnovers, the Giants defense allowed QB Vince Young to look like the college Vince Young, not the NFL Vince Young. They lose a heartbreaker and hard fought game.

Giants Special Teams – It’s time to look for a 10 year kicker and All Pro return man. Keep Weatherford permanently. SMH!

What did you think of the Giants performance against the Eagles? Will the G-Men win the NFC East?

NFL Week 10: Giants vs. 49ers, Game Notes

November 13, 2011

NEW YORK – The New York Football Giants have been on a roll lately. They are winning games and holding onto first place in the NFC East. They faced a very tough opponent this weekend in the revamped San Francisco 49ers. The Giants lost 27-20 and fall to 6-3 on the year. I was actually more concerned about this game, then I was about playing the New England Patriots last weekend (Giants won 24-20). The Eagles and Redskins lost in earlier games today and they drop to 3-6 records, while the Cowboys destroyed the Bills improving to 5-4. The Giants still have control of first place in the NFC East.

The first half of the game was all about the defensive teams doing work. This low scoring game had them going into the locker room for halftime with the 49ers leading 9-6. Starting 49ers RB Frank Gore had zero yards at halftime. Giants LB MIchael Boley left the game in the 2nd quarter and did not return due to a hamstring injury. Both teams were hitting hard out there and it seemed like either team could win this game as late as the fourth quarter. When they came out to finish the game, the 49ers received the ball and grabbed some momentum. This is exactly how I thought the game would go, per my pre-game final score prediction of a Giants victory 17-13.

The second half was more of the same, a hard hitting solid performance by both clubs. The Giants were able to take the lead in the 3rd quarter on a Mario Manningham TD. 49ers RB Frank Gore was knocked out of the game with a knee injury in the 3rd quarter as well. But then the 49ers started rolling and quickly scored two TD’s to take the 27-13 lead in the 4th quarter. There were a bunch of turnovers in this game (3 INT’s) and a bunch of penalties (NYG: 6-45) too. The Giants were able to rally, once again, late in the fourth quarter and quickly score a TD of their own. But it wasn’t meant to be for New York, when they could not convert on fourth down and gave control of the ball over to the 49ers with less then a minute remaining in the game. The end.

Let’s take a look at some of my notes from the game.

QB Eli Manning – Manning had another very good game. He finished with 311 yards 2 TD’s and 2 INT’s. Eli should be in Hawaii.

RB Ahmad Bradshaw – Bradshaw was ruled out of todays game while he mends a recent injury. Get well soon AB!

WR Hakeem Nicks – Nicks was able to play today and he made his presence felt finishing with 41 yards and 1 TD.

DT Linval Joseph – Watch out, Joseph has put together a couple of good games in a row. He finished today with 1 sack.

S Antrel Rolle – Rolle continues to let his game do the talking on Sundays. He finished among the team leaders in tackles once again.

WR Mario Manningham – Super Mario had another good performance and finished with 77 yards and 1 TD. This kid is a star.

LB Michael Boley – Boley left the game in the 2nd quarter and did not return. Fans are concerned about this hamstring injury. Get well soon Mike!

DE Jason Pierre-Paul – JPP truly is a freak of nature athletically. I’ve never seen someone that big move like a cat. How many Pro Bowls?

RB Brandon Jacobs – Jacobs ran the ball well but he is not Ahmad Bradshaw. He finished with 55 yards rushing and 17 yards receiving.

CB Corey Webster – Webster was very active in todays game and finished with 1 INT. We need more interviews with Webster.

DE Osi Umenyiora – Osi continues his exceptional play since returning from injury. He finished with 1 sack.

WR Victor Cruz – Cruz lead all WR’s in the game with 84 yards and has earned Manning’s trust at this point.

LB Mathias Kiwanuka – Kiwi was all over the field as usual. I’m very glad the Giants were able to keep him.

CB Aaron Ross – Ross continues to play well in the absence of Terrell Thomas. He finished tied for 2nd in tackles but left the game with a quad injury.

TE Jake Ballard – Ballard has a quiet game and finished with 35 yards. But they came at crucial times during the game.

S Kenny Phillips – Phillips had a solid game and was making some key hits out there. He was tied for 1st in tackles.

LB Greg Jones – The rookie LB was very active in todays game and did a good job out there. He finished tied for 2nd in tackles.

RB DJ Ware – Ware had to go to work and finished with 34 yards rushing and 34 yards receiving.

LB Spencer Paysinger – The Giants are fielding 3 rookie LB’s out there and they are playing well. Paysinger took over for Boley and did a good job.

CB Prince Amukamara – The rookie sensation still has not had his debut game yet. Some fans hoped it would be today but it was not the case.

RB Da’Rel Scott – Scott was used as the kickoff returner and did a good job in my opinion. Give this rookie time to play and he will only get better.

P Steve Weatherford – The Weatherman had another good game besides a flub he punted for 29 yards.

K Lawrence Tynes – Tynes had a solid game and finished with 2 FG’s and 2 extra points made.

Giants Defense – Both defenses played extremely hard today and the score reflects that. The G-Men finished with 2 sacks, 1 INT and 0 forced fumbles.

Giants Offense – The offense played a better game then the stats would have you believe. Manning is playing on another level this year.

Giants Special Teams – The Giants special teams continues to amaze me. I love the move to make rookie RB Da’Rel Scott a kickoff returner but to give away a meaningless onside kick in the first half? Embarrassing.

NFL Week 9: Giants vs. Patriots, Game Notes

November 6, 2011

NEW YORK – The Giants went into this game today without a few of their star players (Nicks, Bradshaw and Baas). This would have been a tough game even at full strength with the way New England has been playing. The Giants really needed this win to create more of a separation from the pack in the NFC East. Not only did the Giants beat the Patriots 24-20, they did it in dramatic fashion with only 15 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter. This game was without a doubt the greatest game to watch all season for Giants fans so far. My heart was in my throat for most of the game and the final drive nearly gave me a stroke. The Giants improve to 6-2 on the season and continue to hold onto first place in the NFC East.

The first half of this game was a defensive battle. Nobody expected these teams to go into the locker room at halftime with the score tied 0-0. Even I was wrong about the shoot out that I predicted would happen. There wasn’t any scoring but it was a fun defensive battle to watch with lots of turnovers in this game. The second half was a completely different story, with all 44 combined points scored in the second half. The special teams performance for both teams was atrocious today. There was also too many penalties once again but a win is a win. The G-men took care of business and will face another tough opponent next week when they play the 49ers in San Francisco at 4:15 PM EST.

There is a reason why the TV networks called this the “Game of the Week”. Both of these teams fought hard the entire contest and it truly could have gone either way in those final seconds of the game. I’m glad the Giants were able to beat the Patriots today because it is deeper then the surface stuff. This was New York versus Boston to a lot of people, so put another notch on the win belt for the Greatest City on Earth! 18-1.

Let’s take a look at some of my notes from the game.

QB Eli Manning – Eli Manning is an elite quarterback in the NFL, period. He finished the game with 250 yards 2 TD’s and 1 INT.

RB Brandon Jacobs – Brandon the Bull stepped up today and ran the ball hard. He finished with 72 yards rushing, 28 yards receiving and 1 TD.

DE Jason Pierre-Paul – JPP was able to play today and came away with another sack. This guy is a machine.

WR Mario Manningham – Super Mario stepped up today and finished with 33 yards and 1 TD.

LB Michael Boley – Boley is simply a beast and has become one of my favorite players on the team. He led all tacklers and had 1 sack and 1 forced fumble.

DE Osi Umenyiora – Osi had a solid game and was in on a bunch of key plays. He was also in a fight with Patriots player Matt Light.

WR Victor Cruz – This Jersey Kid is stepping up each and every week. He lead all WR’s and finished with 91 yards.

LB Jacquian Williams – The rookie LB had his work cut out for him today and handled himself very well.

TE Jake Ballard – Ballard is quickly making a name for himself throughout the entire NFL. He continues to move up the TE rankings and finished with 67 yards and 1 TD.

S Antrel Rolle – Rolle left the game for a while but returned. He had a solid game and continues to ball on opponents.

RB Ahmad Bradshaw – Bradshaw did not play in this game and is nursing a broken bone in his foot. Get well soon AB!

WR Hakeem Nicks – Nicks did not play in this game because he is dealing with a hamstring injury. Get well soon Hakeem!

C David Baas – Baas missed another game due to injury and really put Manning in a tough spot. Get well soon David!

S Kenny Phillips – Phillips was the second leading tackler on the team and had another great game.

DE Justin Tuck – Tuck made his presence felt on the field and knocked Brady down a few times.

WR Ramses Barden – Barden was taken off the PUP list and got involved today finishing with 22 yards.

CB Deon Grant – Grant was simply making plays all over the field today. He finished with 1 INT.

LB Mathias Kiwanuka – Kiwi was playing like a man possessed today and finished with 1 INT.

CB Prince Amukamara – The rookie CB will have to wait at least another week for his debut.

P Steve Weatherford – The Weatherman had an outstanding game today. He is a bright spot on special teams.

K Lawrence Tynes – Tynes made his 1 FG attempt and all 3 of his extra point attempts. He has played well this year.

Giants Defense – The Giants D came up huge in this game. They finished with 2 sacks, 2 INT’s and 1 forced fumble.

Giants Offense – For a squad that lost 3 key starters (Nicks, Bradshaw and Baas) before game time, they did an outstanding job today.

Giants Special Teams – This group still needs a lot of work and the returners had a horrible day dropping a couple of kicks/punts.

What did you think about the Giants performance against the Patriots?
