NFL Week 16: Giants vs. Jets, Game Notes

December 28, 2011

NEW YORK – Hello Giants fans, I apologize for the delay in getting out this article but it has been a hectic Christmas for me traveling and all. The Giants played the city rival Jets in a big game on Saturday and pulled out the win as you know 29-14. The G-Men were looking to take down and shut up the loud mouth Jets with a sweet victory at MetLife stadium and they did just that. Even though MetLife (Giants stadium) had a green lighting scheme, the G-Men just had to imagine it being decorated for Christmas, because it was still a home game for Big Blue. The Battle for New York on Christmas Eve reads like a Hollywood movie script.

The game was actually pretty good all the way through and fun to watch. The first half saw both teams move the ball well but both defenses were stingy with giving up points. The stadium was filled with a sea of Green and Blue, which made the noise level even higher. Giants WR Victor Cruz had the play of the game when he scored on a 99 yard pass from Manning that was really all about Cruz and his moves. The Giants took a 10-7 lead into the locker room at halftime and came out blazing for the second half. The Giants scored 19 more points in the second half including a rare safety against Jets QB Mark Sanchez. The G-Men gave up a garbage TD late in the game but it would not be enough to change anything. The Giants have won bragging rights for the next 4 years. Do I think this will shut up Jets Coach Rex Ryan and his team? No. They cannot control themselves and will figure out something else to talk about. What can you do, right?

Let’s take a look at my notes from the game.

QB Eli Manning – Manning has officially made it to the 2012 Pro Bowl and he deserves it. He had a good game and finished with 225 yards 1 TD 1 INT. Congrats Eli! Another career season for the captain.

RB Ahmad Bradshaw – AB is fun to watch. He barreled over defenders for 54 yards and 2 TD’s. Nice work AB!

WR Hakeem Nicks – Nicks had a quiet day on Revis Island but still finished with 20 yards.

DE Justin Tuck – Tuck was making plays out there and finished the game with 1 sack.

LB Michael Boley – Boley continues to be a major piece to the Giants defensive puzzle. He is a pure leader out there and had a good game.

RB DJ Ware – Ware was involved in the game and had a couple of nice runs. He finished with 20 yards.

LB Mathias Kiawnuka – Kiwi is a beast and was around the ball for most of the game, even if he wasn’t making tackles, he was making them change direction.

DE Jason Pierre-Paul – JPP is officially going to the Pro Bowl and fans can see why. He finished with 2 sacks on the day. Congrats JPP!

WR Victor Cruz – Cruz was chosen as an alternate for the Pro Bowl and has become the Giants all-time receiving yards leader. He finished with 164 yards and 1 TD. Congrats Vic!

LB Greg Jones – Jones continues to do his best out on the field as a rookie and will be a better player next year for certain.

RB Brandon Jacobs – Jacobs was hurting players out there with his hard running and finished with 42 yards rushing and 13 yards receiving.

S Antrel Rolle – Rolle was the top tackler for Big Blue and was making plays all day. He talks the talk but also walks the walk.

LB Jacquian Williams – I saw the rookie Williams in on a lot of plays and he is another player who will be better next year.

CB Aaron Ross – Ross won’t be going to the Pro Bowl but we have to applaud what he has done in 2011. Nice work Aaron!

DT Chris Canty – Canty has been turning it on lately and had a nice game. he finished with a safety/sack.

S Kenny Phillips – Phillips continues to be a leader on the field and finished the day with 1 INT.

OL Mitch Petrus – Petrus has been doing an outstanding job this year and needs to recognized for his work. Good job out there Mitch!

CB Corey Webster – Webster has had an outstanding year and does not get enough credit for his work. He finished with 1 INT. I see you Corey!

DT Linval Joseph – Joseph is one strong man. We all know that and he has started to play on another level this year.

LB Chase Blackburn – Giants fans love Blackburn and are happy he is back. He had another great game and I hope we keep him on the team.

DE Dave Tollefson – Tollefson is another guy who quietly does his job and gets no shine but I see you Dave. He finished with 1 sack. Nice game buddy!

S Tyler Sash – The rookie Sash was making plays out there and has been a welcome addition to the special teams too.

P Steve Weatherford – The Weatherman had another solid game and I hope we lock him down for the next decade.

K Lawrence Tynes – Tynes went 2/2 on FG attempts and made all three of his extra point attempts. Good Game Larry.

Giants Offense – The G-Men put up 29 points on a very good defense and they did what they had to do to win. Great game!

Giants Defense – The Giants defense won this game in my opinion. They really turned it on and finished with 5 sacks, 2 INT’s and a safety.

Giants Special Teams – The special teams had a decent game and will need to work on improving during the offseason.

What did you think about the Giants performance against the Jets?

Merry Christmas to our Readers and Giants Family Everywhere

December 25, 2011

NEW YORK – On behalf of the nygreporter, I would like to wish all of our readers and Giants fans everywhere, a very Merry Christmas! I would also like to wish the coaches, staff and players of the New York Giants a very Merry Christmas and their families as well. I’m not sure what your favorite holiday is but mine has always been Christmas. Some of you may celebrate Christmas and some of you may not but I do. In fact, I am with my family right now enjoying the relaxed atmosphere near an illuminated tree, watching the kids running around and talking with my uncle and cousins. The girls are in the kitchen cooking and the guys will watch the Green Bay Packers play the Chicago Bears tonight at 8:20 PM EST on NBC. This is the final entry in our DAC Christmas series.

I have been all over the country and I’ve learned that Christmas is better with a chill in the air. I don’t need the whole ‘White Christmas’ even though it would be nice but I do enjoy a chill in the air. I’ve also learned that Christmas is better with family. Maybe it’s the hypnotic glow of colorful lights or the familiar Christmas music coming through the radio but Christmas does something to me like no other holiday. I enjoy giving gifts to my friends and family. I enjoy getting gifts too like every other sane person lol. I enjoy the cold walk from the car to the house I am visiting with gifts or a bottle under my arm. I enjoy the feast of food that gets made every year. I enjoy watching all of the Christmas movies on TV. I enjoy sending the Christmas cards back and forth between friends. I enjoy laughing about life with family. I enjoy praying with family and celebrating the birth of Jesus. These are some of the things I love about Christmas.

I hope all of you kids out there have a very nice Christmas. Remember to listen to your parents and don’t get into any trouble. Keep God in your heart and always do the right thing. Some Christmas seasons are better then others but try to remember to be thankful for whatever gifts you get each and every year because it is a blessing. Some kids get no gifts at all and to you I say Merry Christmas and keep your head up. Life changes and maybe one day things will be different for you but don’t ever give up trying. God Bless!

Some of our military forces are fighting overseas and cannot be with family or friends this year. I salute you and wish you a very, special, Merry Christmas! You are not forgotten! God Bless and Protect you always!

What family traditions do you and your family practice during the holidays?

RD – nygreporter – Ho! Ho! Ho!

Merry Christmas to you and your family, God Bless!

Giants vs. Packers, NFL Week 16: Game Notes

December 26, 2010

NEW YORK – Giants fans can finally put the loss to the Eagles last week behind them because today’s game against the Packers had playoff implications. I have to admit that I am truly not over that loss yet but I will not dwell on it here today. The Giants faced an extremely tough Green Bay Packers team today and had to come out with a win to go back to the playoffs. Most of our readers know that I had picked the Packers to win the Super Bowl before the 2010 NFL season began, so I was nervous but not worried. The Packers won 45-17 in another embarrassing loss for the G-Men.

The 1st quarter of play was a nightmare for Giants fans. The Packers took a quick 14-0 lead and looked like they could move the ball at will. The Giants could not seem to do anything against them offensively or defensively. Then things began to turn around in the 2nd quarter with a nice fumble recovery by Justin Tuck and a couple of New York touchdowns that tied things up at 14-14. One touchdown pass from Manning to Manningham went for 85 yards, the longest of QB Eli Manning’s career. Manning hit the 30 touchdown mark tonight for the first time since Y.A. Tittle did it for Big Blue back in the day. The Packers were ahead 21-14 at halftime.

Things didn’t get much better in the 2nd half, as the Packers continued to move the ball at will against the Giants 2nd ranked defense in the NFL. It became difficult to watch once the 4th quarter rolled around and the Giants playoff dreams were slipping away, as the time quickly ran off the clock. The Giants completely collapsed in the 4th quarter once again. The 6 turnovers and 5 penalties by the Giants were the difference in this game, much as it has been all season. I hate to point a player out but QB Eli Manning has been making some horrible choices lately with throwing the ball. If the Giants miss the playoffs, they have nobody to blame but themselves. It hurts me to say that but it’s true. They had every opportunity to make the post season but did not get the job done today. What else can I say? The Eagles clinch the NFC East with the Giants loss today as well.

Let’s take a look at some of my notes from today’s game.

– QB Eli Manning had a poor game and has been making some bizarre choices with the ball lately. He finished with 301 yards 2 TD’s and 4 INT’s.

– WR Hakeem Nicks continues to impress whenever he is on the field. He finished with 93 yards and 1 TD.

– RB Brandon Jacobs had a few good runs and a key fumble. He finished with 47 yards 0 TD’s and 1 fumble.

– DE Justin Tuck had a great game and a key fumble recovery in the 2nd quarter. He also had the only sack.

– WR Mario Manningham had a big day and finished with 132 yards and 1 TD.

– S Kenny Phillips led all defensive tacklers and was all over the place today. He had a solid game.

– RB Ahmad Bradshaw had a rare bad day and a key fumble. He finished with 31 rushing yards and 41 receiving yards 0 TD’s and 1 fumble.

– CB Aaron Ross got his wish and was returning punts for Big Blue today.

– TE Kevin Boss had a couple of key dropped passes in the first half and a failed fumble recovery in the second half. He finished with 0 yards.

– S Antrel Rolle had a key forced fumble in the 2nd quarter and had a good game overall.

– DE Jason Pierre-Paul was injured and left the game in the first half. He eventually returned later in the game.

– K Lawrence Tynes has been great for Big Blue this season and made all of his extra point attempts (2) and lone FG attempt tonight.

– P Matt Dodge had a better day then last Sunday but fans are still not sold on him.

– The Giants defense seemed a bit sluggish in this game for some reason. They finished with 1 sack and 1 forced fumble.

– The Giants offensive line was terrific once again and continue to be the anchor of the offense. The did however give up a sack.

– The Giants special teams continues to need work but they had a better game then last week.

– Head Coach Tom Coughlin should not be worried about his job. The media needs to relax with all of that trash talk.

– DC Perry Fewell puts together some great schemes and plays. However, he had his hands full tonight.

– OC Kevin Gilbride is still a hot and cold play caller. It’s hard to feel confident in him when you see some of the plays he calls.

– Special Teams Coach Tom Quinn should be on his way out at the end of the season and I’m not sure it’s all his fault.

– The Giants lost the time of possession battle horribly by a time difference of 37:01 to 22:59.

– The Giants were stranded in Green Bay due to bad weather back east. This is the second time in 2 weeks that the team has been stranded.
