New York Giants Draft S Chad Jones in Round 3

April 23, 2010

The New York Giants have taken safety Chad Jones with the 76th overall pick in the 2010 NFL Draft. He is 6’2″ 221 pounds and played at LSU. I absolutely love this pick. I have been talking about Chad Jones for a very long time. This is without a doubt a very high value pick for 76th overall. A lot of experts had Chad Jones ranked as a second rounder, including myself. I was hoping the Giants could find a way to grab this kid and develop him. The New York Giants now have one of the most fearsome safety rotations/tandems in the NFL. Kenny Phillips, Antrel Rolle and Chad Jones, Wow! Jerry Reese is doing work in 2010. Perry Fewell must be in a state of ecstasy over the players he will be coaching in his first year with the team.

Jerry Reese has held on to all of his picks through the first three rounds. Big surprise right? I am extremely proud of the work they are doing and give the Giants an “A” grade for the first three rounds. I can’t imagine what is going to happen tomorrow morning when the draft resumes.

I could not be happier that safety Chad Jones is now a New York Giant. Welcome to New York Chad!

Let’s take a look at who the Giants have drafted thus far.

Round 1 – DE Jason “Wild Thing” Pierre-Paul

Round 2 – DT Linval Joseph

Round 3 – S Chad Jones

What do you think about the New York Giants third round pick S Chad Jones? Here is some video on him form the CBS Sports player profile.

New York Giants Select DT Linval Joseph in Round 2

April 23, 2010

The New York Giants decided to take DT Linval Johnson with the 46th overall pick. The Giants are making a statement by drafting two defensive lineman in a row. This is a very good pick for the G-Men who seem to be working their way into the middle from the outside in. They took care of the safety position via free agency and now have taken two defensive lineman back to back. Jerry Reese is on a mission and I’m liking it. Defense wins Championships. New defensive coordinator Perry Fewell is going to have some fun with these two guys for certain. The Giants scouts have once again proven to be among the best in the NFL and I believe the Giants will take an offensive lineman with the third round pick. I cannot remember a time when the New York Giants have drafted three defensive players in a row, with the top three picks during a draft.

The defensive linemen are going to have a battle come training camp, just like the linebacker corps. Those are two areas worth watching closely and enjoying during the 2010 Training Camp. Linval Joseph is a very big man standing 6’4″ 328 pounds and he played college ball at East Carolina. He had 39 reps with the bench press at the combine as well. This will only help the defensive tackle position. Only time will tell, if he performs better then LB Brandon Spikes and LB Sean Lee who were both available at this pick for the Giants. Personally, I think Joseph will have an immediate impact on the defensive line. Welcome to New York Linval!

What do you think about the New York Giants second round selection of DT Linval Joseph?

NYG Reporter LIVE 2010 NFL DRAFT SPECIAL: Day Two

April 23, 2010

The 2010 NFL Draft, Round 2 will begin TONIGHT at 6:00 PM EST. Rounds 2-3 will be done TONIGHT and Rounds 4-7 on Saturday beginning at 10:00 AM EST.

The 2010 NFL Draft began last night and there weren’t many big moves made. At least, none by the New York Giants who sat quietly and waited for the 15th pick to arrive. The Giants decided that DE Jason “Wild Thing” Pierre-Paul was too much to let pass by. I did some research on this guy before the draft and knew he was on the Big Blue radar. A ton of people had predicted round one would end exactly like this and to them I say, well done. Pierre-Paul is a raw talent who is a freak of nature. He is a big guy at 6’4 3/4″ 270 pounds. He can add a lot of muscle to that hustle and bulk up to 280-285 with no problem. The Giants still need to get themselves a linebacker, unless the team has already decided to start one of the current guys. This is something I would not be opposed to since we have some veterans who have spent their entire careers with the team, LB Chase Blackburn in particular. LB Jonathan Goff and LB Bryan Kehl have been getting some votes of support as well. Is there such a thing as MLB by committee? We know there will not be a rookie starting this season, that’s for certain.

I believe that today will be the day that the team comes away with a new linebacker. I’m happy with the teams first round pick but I would be lying if I said I wasn’t a bit surprised they choose that route. I know a lot of the players the G-Men targeted were gone way before they had a chance to pick. I thought for certain the team would take an offensive lineman if they didn’t choose a linebacker. I thought that C Pouncey would be a terrific fit for the team. Pouncey ended up getting selected three picks later by the Steelers. Pierre-Paul seems like the real deal, though he needs some polishing and coaching at this level. I would have to guess that the Giants will choose an offensive lineman tonight and possibly a linebacker or defensive tackle. Perhaps, the team will come away with two of the three positions I have mentioned.

Many have speculated that DE Osi Umenyiora’s job might be in jeopardy now that Pierre-Paul was drafted. Giants GM Jerry Reese was quick to kill that noise, by repeating what he has been saying all along, “Osi will not be traded!”. I believe Osi is owed roughly $10 million dollars over the next 3 years, so it would make financial sense to keep him, as well as for his talent level.

Who do you think the New York Giants will take with their second and third round picks in the 2010 NFL Draft tonight?

What did you think about the New York Giants taking DE Jason Pierre-Paul with the 15th overall pick last night?
