The New York Giants made some roster moves today by waiving newly signed WR Adam Jennings. Jennings would have primarily played on special teams and would have been used as a backup WR if the team found itself in a jam. He was not on the team for very long (almost 3 weeks), just like his predecessor WR Chris Davis, who failed the physical.
The Giants also signed rookie WR Nyan Boateng (6’2″ 211 pounds) today. Nyan attended the Giants minicamp and was no doubt signed to bolster a shaky special teams squad. The 23 year old Boateng played college ball with the California Golden Bears. He also attended the legendary Lincoln high school in Brooklyn, New York.
It is amazing to me how often the New York Giants special teams have popped up in the news lately. This has become a legitimate area of concern for me now. I’m not sure how Coach Quinn will be able to put together this puzzle before the season starts. This going to be a huge task in my opinion and the man has his work cut out for him. The Giants are going to have to figure out this situation very quickly because their first preseason game is in ten days.
I talked about some of the concerns in a previous article but to summarize once again, Feagles is retired, rookie punter Matt Dodge is starting, Chad Jones on IR, Domenik Hixon on IR, two special teams WR’s brought in and waived, kicker Lawrence Tynes needs redemption, who will become the kick returner? who will become the punt returner? who is the Giants best special teams player? how will rookie Matt Dodge handle the pressure?
Are you concerned about the state of the New York Giants special teams?

New York Giants offensive lineman Rich Seubert has a broken bone in his left hand and will miss some time. The early reports say he will miss at least one week but it could be longer. Seubert already has a large cast on his right hand and forearm and when asked about it, he said to “ask coach about it”. Tom Coughlin has said he will talk to reporters about this following the afternoon practice today which concludes at 4:35 PM EST. Today is also the Giants autograph night in Albany, so Coughlin might not get to speak until around 5:00 PM EST.
Nobody knows how Seubert got his injury or exactly how long he will be out of action. I’m not familiar with the bones in the hand, all I know is that there are a lot of them in there. I find it hard to believe that No.69 will only miss a week of practice but I hope that turns out to be the case. OL William Beatty is battling for the starting OT spot, which many believe will slide David Diehl to OG, putting Seubert in the position of possibly becoming a backup. OL Shaun O’Hara has also been on the sideline for a while now with a nagging ankle injury. Both of these guys are veterans and they will be back on the field at some point.
You just hate to see the Giants dealing with so many injuries following the 2009 season, which was plagued by injuries the entire season. Having two out of the five starting offensive lineman injured right now is enough to make a Giants fan rip the hair out of their head.

Hello Giants Fans, Today is Autograph Night (practice is from 3:35-4:35 PM EST) at the Giants training camp in Albany!! Fans will be able to meet the players and get their autographs. It’s a great day to bring the kids and support the Giants.
It is hard to believe but week one of the 2010 training camp is almost completed. There are now exactly fourteen days until the camp wraps up on August 20, 2010. What is even more crazy is the fact that the G-men play the Jets in their first preseason game in ten days at the new stadium. The Giants and Jets will meet on August 16, 2010 at 8PM EST in a Monday Night Football showdown. Football fans understand that this is the first preseason game of the year and that it will probably not be very competitive. The starters will not play longer then one quarter and it may even be for a single series.
Training camp has been going very well for Big Blue. Coach Coughlin mentioned the wide receiver group recently saying that they need to pull it together a little bit. I would not worry about this, I believe it is more player rust, then actual concern over ability. Rookie DE Jason Pierre-Paul continues to gain praise from the coaching staff and players. Center Shaun O’Hara is battling a nagging ankle injury and has missed most of training camp thus far. The Giants started using full pads this week and I’m sure the trainers want to be cautious with some of these players.
WR Hakeem Nicks scared the heck out of everyone after he hyperextended his right knee. Two MRI’s later in New York City and Nicks was cleared and back in Albany the next day. The Giants cannot afford to lose a player of Nicks’ caliber on offense and I’m sure the team let out a collective exhale at the good news. QB Eli Manning continues to be a rock for the team and is beginning to get in the zone as time goes on. There has been no mention of the achilles injury he suffered in 2009, so I’m assuming that he feels fine and will be good to go in 2010.
Tom Coughlin has a group of players who are on a special list that will only allow them to practice once per day. Those players include DT Jay Alford, WR Hakeem Nicks, TE Kevin Boss, LB Keith Bulluck and DE Osi Umenyiora. All of these players had recent injuries and they require special attention during training camp until they are fully healthy. WR Mario Manningham and S Deon Grant have also both missed the past couple of days at practice with groin injuries. S Kenny Phillips is still hoping to fully recover before the start of the 2010 season, while S Antrel Rolle is easing into his leadership role with the DB’s. They will not hold two a day practices today, only the one practice on the field from 2:25-4:35 PM EST.
