Super Bowl XLVI Weekend Finally Arrives For NFL Fans

February 3, 2012

NEW YORK – The media coverage for this Super Bowl has been good and by that I mean, NFL fans have been saturated with everything New York Giants for days now. It has been a lot of fun watching the interviews and press conferences. The Giants seem calm and focused and I really believe they are going to win another ring on Sunday (Giants win 38-27). I guess this would be as good a time as any to say “Thank God it’s Friday” and the weekend officially begins tonight. I am ready to get this game started because with the bye week in between, it seems like it has taken forever to arrive. Have no fear my fellow fans, Super Bowl weekend has arrived!

Fans who were able to check out the NFL Experience this year probably attended the best one ever. They continue to add things to that wonderful part of the Super Bowl entertainment activities for fans. I have attended 2 NFL Experiences (Miami, Tampa Bay) in my life so far and they were both a lot of fun. I highly recommend this for Dads and Sons and Uncles and the guys to attend and enjoy. They have lots of cool football activities for the kids and tons of video games and history areas to look at including the Lombardi trophy itself and all of the Super Bowl rings ever won thus far. There are also players all over the place with autograph booths set up and an event schedule that tells you who will be where and when.

Everyone keeps talking about how playing in Indy helps the Giants out but I think it might actually help the Patriots out more. Think about this for a minute, who has played more games there and feels more comfortable? It has to be the Patriots and with any other team that might make the Patriots look favorable but this is the ‘Road Warrior’ New York Giants where none of that applies. The Giants are simply awesome on the road (hence the Road Warriors nickname) and relish being called underdogs. So in a strange way, the worst thing you can do to them is compliment them. There is nothing that is going to rattle this team and the players will need to manage each other and stay cool until the game is over. Once the game is over, you can celebrate for a month if you want. Win the ring before you plan parties or talk about partying. Life comes down to a few moments and this is one of them. The fans are all in, are you?

Who has the edge playing at Lucas Oil stadium in Indianapolis?

Super Bowl XLVI Final Score Poll Via Twitter

January 31, 2012

NEW YORK – I decided to ask some of the Giants fans and friends I’ve met on twitter, over the past 2 seasons, what their predictions for Super Bowl winners and/or final score predictions would be. I will list their answers below, I think most of us are on the same page. Some do not want to make a prediction in fear of jinxing the game but I do not think this qualifies as such amongst friends. This is simply guessing for fun and checking out what some of the NFL fans have to say because let’s face it, we all have an opinion on the Super Bowl. Get ready for a party Indianapolis. I started this poll on the Pro Bowl day 1/29/12 and will post it on 1/31/12.

Somehow people think the Giants are the underdogs in this game which is fine by Big Blue. The truth is everyone knows that the Patriots are the true underdogs. Some of the New England players have decided to focus on setting up parties before winning the game. Typical and predictable actions of a second place team. The Giants will focus on winning the game and how to ruin Patriots QB Tom Brady’s day. If you want to get some official New York Giants gear, click on the banner on the right sidebar. You can buy great Super Bowl XLVI merchandise from the Giants official store but we don’t set up victory parties in New York until we’ve won something.

Let’s take a look at some of the final score predictions via twitter accounts. If anyone does not want their prediction listed, simply send us an email at nygreporter@yahoo.com and request to have it removed. Also, it you would like yours added to the list send me a tweet and I will add it. Final score predictions must be in before the game starts on February 5, 2012.

2012 Pro Bowl Game: Same Old Song and Dance

January 30, 2012

NEW YORK – The NFC played the AFC in another Pro Bowl designed to be a sleeping tranquilizer on Sunday afternoons. It got so bad, they had to move it to the evenings. The opening ceremonies and hoopla are more entertaining then the game itself, that is why I say expand them. My final score prediction was an NFC win 47-35 in a high scoring scrimmage of stars. The actual final score was even worse, the AFC beat the NFC 59-41. I sent NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell my previous article with ideas on improving this game. It was cool to see the star players hanging out and interacting but make the Pro Bowl about the game and let the elite and hungry college players have a moment to shine. Give out cars to three types of Pro Bowl MVP. I wish there was an easy fix but there is simply too much money tied up with those star players. Something has to be done.

I’m sure there are some fans out there that didn’t even watch this game. Either way, the game I know everyone will be watching is Super Bowl XLVI next Sunday night at 6:18 PM EST. I continue to say the same thing, watch Eli Manning have an elite game and win Super Bowl MVP for a second time. He is in the zone so deep, that he was must be ready to get on the field already. Manning and Jason Pierre-Paul were voted into the Pro Bowl but skipped it because of the Super Bowl. That was Manning’s second career Pro Bowl and JPP’s first ever but the ring is the thing. The ring is what teams play for at the end of the day. I expect a tough game from the Patriots who are a very good football team but they simply will not be able to match the Giants resiliency.

The Giants will continue their ‘Road Warrior’ mentality by wearing the road white jerseys in the Super Bowl, just like the ones they wore when they beat the Patriots in the Super Bowl back in 2007. There are so many angles to this game including the New York vs. Boston angle which is deep in both cities. The rematch angle, the revenge angle. The Brady vs. Manning angle, the Lucas Oil stadium in Indy angle. Peyton’s house in Indianapolis hosting little brother Eli in the Super Bowl. The Tom Coughlin and Bill Belichick relation to coach Bill Parcells angle. The one angle I’m certain will be the most enjoyable is knowing these teams will be playing hard and trying to win a football game unlike the Pro Bowl, which continues to be a disappointment. Congrats to the players voted in and much respect for their skills on the field. This isn’t about the players, it’s about making the event something worth watching.

Do you watch the Pro Bowl every year? If not, why?

Congrats to Victor Cruz on Winning The Vizio TVP Award

January 28, 2012

NEW YORK – On behalf of the nygreporter, I would like to say Congrats to New York Giants WR Victor Cruz on winning the Top Value Performer Award given by Vizio and voted on by the fans. I am happy that I have followed his career from training camp back in 2010 in Albany. You knew you were looking at a good football player. He was catching everything thrown to him and had worked out during the lockout with QB Eli Manning in Hoboken. Which was nothing for Cruz who grew up in Paterson, so he is very familiar with Hudson County New Jersey. So Cruz hung out with Super Bowl MVP Eli Manning and played catch on a high school field. Cruz is a star now in the New York and New Jersey areas. The well mannered and friendly ‘Salsa King’ is a good face for New York football and all of the local kids who hope to play for the Giants one day. Expect to see a lot more of him.

How about the job Giants GM Jerry Reese did with this young man? There are three players that need to get paid next year and they are WR Victor Cruz, DE Jason Pierre-Paul and DE Osi Umenyiora. I’m convinced Osi needs to finish his career with the Giants and be signed for a long term contract. The same goes for Victor Cruz who deserves a five year deal in my opinion. I would like to say good luck to Victor and the New York Giants in Super Bowl XLVI. The fans are behind you guys hunting those rings. I’m all in!

The Super Bowl is now only 8 days away and the Pro Bowl is tomorrow 1/29/12 at 7:00 PM EST. Enjoy the game NFL fans!

What are your thoughts on Victor Cruz and the incredible season he continues to have?

How Do You Beat Belichick and The New England Patriots?

January 27, 2012

NEW YORK – You can be sure of one thing on Super Bowl Sunday, the New England Patriots are going to play unconventional football. The Giants special teams group will need to play their best game of the year. I expect Big Blue to win 38-27 as I’ve said before. Giants DC Perry Fewell will need to have his head screwed on right for this one and stay focused on the game plan. The Giants defense is going to hit Tom Brady often and knock him down every few plays. Keep an eye on those speedy running backs of the Patriots on the outside. I would work on that a lot and defending play action. Brady will throw five or six bomb passes in this game and at least one will get intercepted. Corey Webster deserves a Super Bowl INT for his season.

Some specific players that will need to bring their game to another level are DT Linval Joseph, DT Chris Canty, WR Jerrel Jernigan, LB Jacquian Williams, CB Aaron Ross, RB Ahmad Bradshaw and TE Jake Ballard. There are other players too but if these guys played the game of the year for themselves personally, the Giants might have the lead the entire game. With only one win left until NFL immortality, the Giants must follow the leader and relax as Eli Manning does. He is calm, cool and deadly. The Giants players and coaches know they can beat this Patriots team, they must not let that get to them. Stay focused and relaxed and enjoy the ride, because Eli Manning will not be denied. Giants fans will most likely see a lot of the ‘Nascar’ defense with all defensive ends lined up. This will create havoc and force a turnover or two possibly, hopefully.

My pre-game defensive stars of the game predictions are DE Jason Pierre-Paul, LB Mathias Kiwanuka, DE Osi Umenyiora, S Antrel Rolle and CB Corey Webster. The Giants have five main threats from the Patriots offense, they are QB Tom Brady, WR Wes Welker, TE Rob Gronkowski, TE Aaron Hernandez and RB Danny Woodhead. The Giants offensive threats are deeper then the Patriots when you look at it. The offensive weapons for Big Blue include QB Eli Manning, RB Ahmad Bradshaw, WR Hakeem Nicks, WR Victor Cruz, WR Mario Manningham, RB Brandon Jacobs and TE Jake Ballard. Giants special teams coach Tom Quinn is going to need a solid game plan for the Patriots in this game. Expect the desperate Belichick to turn into trickster if the game is close.

How would you stop the Patriots offense if you were the Giants defensive coordinator?

#ALLIN is the twitter trend for the G-men. Along with #DoYouBelieve

side note: The New Jersey Governor’s media department sent me an email asking me about a Giants victory parade and where it should be held. I believe there should be a celebration in both New York and New Jersey. MetLife stadium seems to make the most sense for a New Jersey celebration.

The New York Giants Are Going to Win the Super Bowl!

January 26, 2012

NEW YORK – The New York Giants are going to beat the New England Patriots in the Super Bowl by the score of 38-27. This is my prediction. I think Tom Brady will throw at least 1 INT while Eli Manning is solid with 400 yards and 4 TD’s, O INT’s as he wins Super Bowl MVP for a second time. The Giants defense will hold and cause a few turnovers. I’m expecting two turnovers by the Patriots, that lead to 2 quick Giants TD’s. Victor Cruz should have at least 2 TD’s. I think Jake Ballard will also have a receiving TD. And I expect Super Mario Manningham to grab a SB TD! Hakeem Nicks will be double teamed the whole game. The Giants defense will sack Brady at least 3 times. JPP will have a very good game and play on another level to confirm why is was voted into the pro bowl. I would like to introduce the world to No.90 Jason Pierre-Paul for the Giants. Just in case you haven’t seen him play.

I like the fact that Eli will play in Indianapolis. This is the most intriguing part of the game to me. Tom Brady might be seeking revenge but Easy Eli is all about producing results on the field and owning the fourth quarter. I expect no less in this game from him. Winning this Super Bowl simply means that Eli Manning is officially standing right next to Derek Jeter in the all-time clutch player award in New York lore and New Jersey lore as well. The thing is, I believe that Manning really wants this game more then Tom Brady and there is nothing Belichick or Brady can do about it. Perry Fewell will need to call the game of his life but Manning is already in the discussion for greatest Giants QB of all time. The Giants will win the next Super Bowl ring on February 5th with all day coverage from @nygreporter on twitter up until game time. I’ll do my best at halftime lol and then do some post game coverage.

The New York Rangers are playing well this year but we need the Knicks to get it together. I now they will eventually. This is the best team in years for New York fans. It is great to be a New York fan in general right now and the Yankees coming up. It feels like there was just a small earthquake in New York, weird. I expect the Patriots to put up a good fight but the Giants simply have this teams number for some reason the past few years.

What are your final score predictions for the Super Bowl? Who will win the Super Bowl MVP award?

NFL Week 17: Giants vs. Cowboys, Game Notes

January 2, 2012

NEW YORK – Happy New Year everyone! The Giants played the division rival Cowboys in a big game last night for the NFC East Championship. The G-Men and fans were looking to QB Eli Manning to take over the game and get the victory at MetLife stadium. The Giants would not disappoint as they beat the Cowboys 31-14 on a rainy night in New Jersey to make it back to the playoffs. The G-Men dominated this game from the very beginning and all that Giants fans had to do was sit back and enjoy the show. I wasn’t concerned for a moment throughout this entire game and the Giants never gave up the lead. This was a fun game to watch.

The Giants dominated this game the entire first half. It was almost sad to see how badly the Cowboys were playing. The G-Men took a 21-0 lead into the locker room at halftime and they were playing so well that I doubt there was anything to talk about. They came out for the second half and seemed determined to win the game. The Cowboys put up a better fight in the second half but could not do enough to keep the game within reach. Giants WR Victor Cruz is simply a beast and he is doing things out there that elite WR’s do. It is impossible to overlook this young man anymore. The Giants end the 2011 regular season with a 9-7 record and will play the Atlanta Falcons next Sunday at 1:00 PM EST in East Rutherford.

Let’s take a look at my notes from the game.

QB Eli Manning – Manning had one of his best games of the year. He finished with 346 yards 3 TD’s and 0 INT’s. Can you say elite?

RB Ahmad Bradshaw – AB ran the ball hard and finished with 57 yards and 1 TD. He also had 12 receiving yards and 1 receiving TD.

WR Hakeem Nicks – Nicks had a solid game and finished with 76 yards and 1 TD. The emergence of Cruz is overshadowing the Giants No.1 WR.

DE Justin Tuck – Tuck was causing trouble all over the field and finished with 1 sack and 1 forced fumble.

LB Michael Boley – Boley is a beast. He led all defensive tacklers and had another outstanding game.

S Kenny Phillips – Phillips also had a solid game and was the second leading tackler for Big Blue.

LB Mathias Kiawnuka – I have never seen Kiwi play like he did last night. He was in the zone and all around the ball.

DE Jason Pierre-Paul – JPP is a Pro Bowler and he played like it last night. He finished with 1 sack but was all over the place.

WR Victor Cruz – Cruz gets my game ball again. This young man is simply frightening to opposing defenses. He finished with 178 yards and 1 TD. Good luck trying to stop this Salsa machine!

LB Chase Blackburn – Blackburn has done a great job since returning to the Giants. He was making plays again last night.

RB Brandon Jacobs – Jacobs contributed what he could but this game was all about passing. He finished with 16 yards.

S Antrel Rolle – Rolle was out there banging with the Cowboys and finished with 1 INT. Nice job Antrel!

TE Bear Pascoe – Pascoe got a couple of balls thrown his way as the team tries to fill in for the injured TE Jake Ballard.

CB Aaron Ross – I have to take my hat off to Ross who was thrown into the starting lineup by Terrell Thomas’ injury. Great job Aaron!

DT Chris Canty – The big dude in the middle had a great game against his former team. He finished with 1 sack.

CB Corey Webster – Webster had a tough task covering those Cowboy WR’s but he held his own and has had an outstanding season.

OL David Baas – Baas was having a tough time with the Dallas front but held his own and did a good job.

S Deon Grant – Grant hits like a Mack truck out there and last night was no different for the veteran. Solid game for Deon.

DE Osi Umenyiora – Osi returned to the field after missing a month and made himself useful with 2 sacks. Osi is a beast.

FB Henry Hynoski – The rookie FB had his best game of the year at the right time. He finished with 31 yards but was knocking people to the ground with his blocking.

CB Jacquian Williams – The rookie LB was third on the team in tackles and finished with 1 sack. Watch out, he is going to get better next year.

P Steve Weatherford – Once again, the Weatherman had a solid game and will surely see a new contract in the near future.

K Lawrence Tynes – Tynes missed a FG and made one. He also made all four of his extra point attempts.

Giants Offense – The Giants offense was potent and deadly last night. A solid game all the way around.

Giants Defense – The Giants defense was smothering and finished with 6 sacks, 1 INT and 1 forced fumble. They wanted this win.

Giants Special Teams – The Giants special teams still needs work but they are getting better as the year goes on.

What did you think about the Giants performance against the Cowboys?

Happy New Year to our Family, Readers and Fans!

January 1, 2012

NEW YORK – I would like to wish everyone a very Happy New Year! I hope you all got home safe if you went out and remember you’re still drunk if you’ve only slept for 3 hours, don’t drink and drive! I know the Giants fans out there are ready for the Dallas Cowboys game today at MetLife stadium at 1:00 PM EST. I’m sure that by the time you read this and have had your coffee, you will be ready for the big game. Not much left to be said about this one, Division rivals with something on the line besides pride. This is a fierce rivalry that got really heated in the 1980’s and 1990’s. The Cowboys are right at the top of the list for hated rivals and Giants fans have no problem telling you about it. It’s best to leave it alone and not dwell on it.

The crazy period of the NFL is upon us and the playoff pictures are clear. This is a very exciting time to be a fan if your team has played well and made the postseason. Anything can happen from this point on and since this is the last week of regular season football, I must say that the playoffs are welcome. The Giants did the best that they could with the personnel on the field. The team was dismantled by injuries once again in 2011 and those injuries caused the rookies and second stringers to gain valuable game time experience that will keep the Giants deep for years. The Giants need their stars and starters back to make a serious run at the Super Bowl in my opinion, I hope I’m wrong but I would be lying if I didn’t say exactly how I felt about this situation.

I hope all of the Giants fans out there enjoy this final regular season game today and let’s get a win for the home team. No matter what is on the line, at the heart of this game, is a contest between the New York Giants and Dallas Cowboys, this story needs no other punch line or reason to happen. That is why I will sit back and really enjoy watching this game.

On behalf of the nygreporter, I would like to wish you all of the best for 2012 and the new year!

It’s New Year’s Eve and New York City is Electric

December 31, 2011

NEW YORK – New Year’s Eve is one of the most exciting dates on our calendar year for about seven billion people. It is the week after Christmas, so it is family at home for some or a night to go out and party for others. There is nothing wrong with either of those choices and I have done both. I want to wish you all a very Happy New Year’s Eve! I hope you are able to be with friends or family and if not, that’s ok too. There are so many people walking around in every direction. The city is lit like a festive wonderland and smiles are everywhere. Watch the ball drop on TV, if you can’t be there.

There is simply no better place in the world to be on New Year’s Eve, then New York City. It is the pinnacle celebration of planet earth.

I have been to Times Square for New Year’s Eve three times in my life. Three times I’ve watched that ball drop into a sea of party people and by 1:00 AM EST, the only people left on the street are sanitation workers cleaning up the confetti. It’s a strange sight if you have never experienced it before. You go from being surrounded by a million screaming people, celebrating the biggest block party on the face of the planet to seeing dozens of sanitation workers in less then an hour. If you can recall that, then you were there. Knowing what to expect, the second time I went to see the ball drop, I immediately hit a bar within seconds of the ball dropping. Have you ever seen a place get instantly packed? It’s like a rain delay at a baseball stadium. Boom, heres 500 people shoulder to shoulder looking for a drink. It is quite a sight.

Because I have moved around so much, many of my friends would ask me which time zone I celebrate New Year’s Eve from. My reply was New York City because I was born there. I believe that your inner life clock is predicated on the place where you were born and where your first heartbeat occurred. That is the time zone to your life clock. So, if anyone ever asks you that same question, you will now know how to answer it.

I hope everyone enjoys themselves tonight and drinks responsibly. Remember, there are a lot of kids out there trying to have a good time. Take a cab! At midnight, it’s Goodbye 2011 and Hello 2012. Be Safe!

The Giants will be at home when they play the Cowboys on New Year’s Day at 1:00 PM EST. I predict a Giants win 31-21.

12/24/11 Christmas Eve DAC Day 24, Ho Ho Ho

December 24, 2011

NEW YORK – It is Christmas Eve everyone and the Giants play the Jets. It’s going to be a fun day with family enjoying the game for me. I hope everyone enjoys their Christmas Eve and I look forward to discussing the game on Monday. This is bigger then the need to get a win, this is a battle for New York. The fans all know it and so do I. There is a lot of pride on the line in this game for both teams and coming out with the win is a must. Just like in that movie “The Invasion” we need to get some Big Blue jerseys in MetLife stadium for the game. Excuse me, I mean Giants stadium.

The Giants have to play and beat the Dallas Cowboys next week in the season finale at MetLife stadium. That will surely be one of the hottest tickets of the year because the Giants playoff hopes depend on that win. The fans will be out in force rain, sleet or snow for this one. I expect the tailgating to be huge for the finale and fans can have a blast just hanging out until kickoff if they weren’t fortunate enough to get tickets. Never drink and drive of course and be sure to have a designated driver to get you home. Remember, be safe, kids go to games too.

Whatever religion you are or what holiday you celebrate, I wish all of you a happy holiday season equally. I celebrate Christmas and write about what I know. I hope you can all respect that. Feel free to leave a comment about what holiday you celebrate and how you do so.

– Rodney Hampton was generous enough to stop by with a final Christmas wish for our readers and to answer five little questions. I think our readers will enjoy it and yes, this is the real Giants RB Rodney Hampton everyone. Be sure to check out Hamps Camp (www.hampscamp.com) for his football camp and after school programs in the Houston, Texas area. Hello again Rodney and thanks for taking the time to answer a few questions. Merry Christmas to you and the family!

Five Christmas Questions for Rodney Hampton:

1. What is your favorite Christmas movie?

Hampton Answer: Rudolph the red nosed reindeer and Santa Claus is coming to town. Classic ABC movies for the holidays.

2. What is your favorite Christmas dinner?

Hampton Answer: I don’t really have a favorite dinner. We always have so much food around, a feast, that there is always something good to eat.

3. What is your favorite Christmas drink?

Hampton Answer: a glass of red wine, a merlot.

4. What type of music do you listen to on Christmas eve?

Hampton Answer: I have a piano that plays by itself and we love to listen to the Christmas carols from there. The piano music really puts me in the Christmas spirit.

5. What Christmas traditions do you and your family have and celebrate?

Hampton Answer: We play a game called The White Elephant Gift Exchange (Google it for the rules) on Christmas day. It’s so much fun because no one can control the gift they receive and some of us purchase gifts that no one wants. It’s so much fun!

1. Rodney Hampton’s Christmas message to nygreporter readers:

Rodney: I’d like to wish each of you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! Take some time and reflect on the year. Make a list of at least five things that you are thankful for. Sometimes we get too consumed with all of the gifts and money being spent during the holiday season. Take some time this year and focus on the small things (sometimes these are the things we take for granted). Remember the reason for the season, and be sure to have a safe and joyful holiday! May God bless each of you!!!

2. Robert’s (nygreporter owner) Christmas message to readers:

Robert: Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all of our readers! Thank you very much for continuing to read our articles and see a different perspective on the team. Let’s get in the playoffs and do some work Giants! Eli Manning needs to be in the Pro Bowl. So do a bunch of other players this year. God Bless all of you and your families! Thank you to the military stationed all over the world who cannot be home this year. God Bless and protect you always!
