NEW YORK – Hello Giants Fans, how about that title? I was going to make it longer but decided against it. After watching the Giants beat the Patriots 20-17 for the final preseason game last week, I began to wonder how the G-men would do against the Panthers in week one. Giants fans want revenge for the Panthers crushing Big Blue at the end of last season. This game means a lot to the fans, no matter what is said in the newspapers or on the websites.
The 2010 NFL regular season officially begins tomorrow night and the Giants play the Panthers this Sunday afternoon (9/12/10 – 1PM EST). The preseason is over and the time has come for the real deal.
During the long dry summer, Giants news can be few and far between, so it’s no wonder that fans were ravenous for information on the players this entire off season. There were a lot of new faces added to the roster and sadly, some that have gone elsewhere to play. Let’s evaluate some of the possibilities with these new players and predict the Giants fate as a team in 2010. GM Jerry Reese has done an outstanding job taking care of the problem areas and he has also secured some great talent for the coaches to utilize.
Let’s take a look at some of my pre-regular season predictions on who will perform well.
Question: Who will turn out to be the greatest addition to the team following the 2009 NFL season? Answer: S Antrel Rolle
Question: How many Giants will make the 2010 pro bowl and who will they be? Answer: 5 players including QB Eli Manning, WR Hakeem Nicks, CB Terrell Thomas, FB Madison Hedgecock and OL Chris Snee.
Question: Who will break a team record for receiving yards in a single season? Answer WR Hakeem Nicks
Question: Who will deserve the game ball for their performance against the Carolina Panthers? Answer: QB Eli Manning
Question: Will WR Victor Cruz surpass WR Mario Manningham for the third WR slot? Answer: Not in 2010 but if Cruz continues to play as he has in the preseason, it will be hard for the coaches to see him on the bench during the games.
Question: Will RB Ahmad Bradshaw be able to carry the load as the starting RB? Answer: Yes, he will be fine and RB Brandon Jacobs will get the goal line carries.
Question: Will new OL Shawn Andrews turn out to be the steal of the waivers this off season? Answer: It’s too early to say but I’m rooting for him.
Question: Will the New York Giants defense be a top ten defense in 2010 under new DC Perry Fewell? Answer: Yes, I believe the G-men return to form defensively in 2010.
Question: Who will lead the Giants defense in sacks this season? Answer: DE Justin Tuck
Question: Will QB Eli Manning surpass the 4,000 passing yard mark again in 2010? Answer: Yes, I believe Eli Manning will have a pro bowl year.
Question: Will the New York Giants return to the playoffs in 2010? Answer: Yes, the Giants will be back in 2010.
Question: Who will become the starting MLB for the Giants this year? Answer: LB Jonathan Goff
Question: Who are the Kings of the Castle at New Meadowlands stadium, the Giants or the Jets? Answer: The New York Giants
Question: Will the New York Giants win 12 or more games in 2010? Answer: No, I believe they will finish with a 11-5 record.
BONUS QUESTION: Who will win Super Bowl XLV on 02/06/2011? Answer: Green Bay Packers

NEW YORK – Hello Giants Fans, it should come as no surprise that the Giants chose eight players you will be very familiar with. The team did lose one player for certain when the Denver Broncos signed RB Andre Brown. This is a move that the Broncos should benefit from in the near future. Something must have spooked the team because I was surprised to see the G-Men let him go. You can include DT Jay Alford on that list of shockers.
I’m not sure how the fans feel about having QB Sage Rosenfels as the backup to Easy Eli but I know that none of these guys are as good as QB David Carr was. It’s not surprising to me at all that it would take a while to find a quality backup up Carr’s level. It is clear that the team wants to give Eli as many weapons as possible, hence the signing of two TE’s to the practice squad in Bear Pascoe and Jake Ballard. TE Kevin Boss is the lock at starter and everyone is curious to see if TE Travis Beckum will break out in 2010.
The Giants were horrible in the secondary last season, so it is no surprise that they would keep a couple of DB’s on the squad by retaining CB Seth Williams and S Sha’reef Rashad. These are also possible special teams additions later in the year if someone goes down. Special teams has seen key players retire or go on IR very early in 2010. These players include Jeff Feagles, Chad Jones, Domenik Hixon and Sinorice Moss. The G-men are beginning the 2010 season with seven players on the injured reserve list already (not to mention one of the PUP list). Fans cannot endure another injury plagued season back to back with 2009.
Let’s take a look at the eight players the Giants signed to the practice squad.

NEW YORK – Hello Giants Fans, the 2010 NFL regular season begins in two days and the Giants are just about ready to get down to business. The G-Men signed QB Sage Rosenfels and RB Darius Reynaud, while they were making their cuts to get the roster down to fifty three players. I’m still in shock over the team letting DT Jay Alford go.
The Giants actually made a trade to get the return specialist Reynaud and backup QB Rosenfels from the Vikings, something very unlike GM Jerry Reese to do, since he took over for former GM Ernie Accorsi. I’m not here to report this news to you because it happened a couple of days ago. I’m writing this article to get some feedback on what you think of the transactions and if you agree with what the team did. I’m not sure how I feel about it yet.
I have to be honest, I was surprised to see Big Blue waive QB Rhett Bomar. I thought the guy played pretty well during the preseason. I’m glad that he cleared waivers and was signed to the Giants practice squad. He managed the game well and was not afraid to run the ball if the situation arose. I was equally surprised to see QB Sage Rosenfels signed to the team. I watched the video interview with him on Giants.com and found him to be a level headed guy who is eager to learn the playbook. He is a veteran who has been around for a while but hopefully he will not be needed as QB Eli Manning continues his Iron Man streak for starting consecutive games. He is currently third on that list behind only QB Brett Favre and his brother QB Peyton Manning. Rosenfels will be Manning’s only backup since the team placed QB Jim Sorgi on the IR list last month.
I’m not sure what to make of RB Darius Reynaud yet because I don’t know much about him. I had to look up what he has done and from what I see, it looks like he will be an upgrade to special teams that has been decimated by injuries early into the 2010 season. I’m placing my faith in the front office on this one and would not be surprised if Reynaud had a very good year. I was surprised the team let RB Andre Brown go. With Jacobs and Bradshaw getting over recent injuries, I can easily see this becoming a problem area if the guys can’t remain healthy.

Hello Giants Fans,
This is going to be difficult to say but the Giants lost their first ever home opener in the new stadium to the Steelers last night 24-17. I thought the team looked a lot better as a whole, then they did against the Jets last week. The defense seemed to be getting in the backfield at will. Backup QB Rhett Bomar did a nice job handling the starter duties. The special teams still need improvement but I would give the team a B- grade for this game.
The Giants will travel to Baltimore for their next preseason game against the Ravens on August 28, 2010 at 7:30 PM EST. Ray Ray is still down there doing his thing and remains a very dangerous man on the field. Most Giants fans still have a bad taste in their mouth about the Ravens beating the G-Men in the Super Bowl back in 2000. Real Giants fans want to beat the Ravens every single time they play them. This is a category that the Carolina Panthers have also now fallen into and hey look at that, the Giants play them in week one.
Let’s take a look at some of my game notes.
– WR Hakeem Nicks got into a fistfight with Ike Taylor in the first quarter. Both were ejected. Coughlin said cooler heads must prevail in those situations.
– DE Justin Tuck had a sack (shared with Kiwi) and played a great game. He looked very fast and light on his feet last night.
– CB Corey Webster had an interception against Big Ben in the game.
– Can we please stop using CB Aaron Ross as a returner (my second request).
– DE Mathias Kiwanuka had a terrific game and seemed to be in on every play, even if he wasn’t the one who got the tackle credit.
– RB Brandon Jacobs was a late scratch from a neck injury he suffered while lifting weights (he was doing shrugs).
– Rookie WR Victor Cruz had another good game with 2 receptions for 30 yards (15 yard average).
– Backup QB Rhett Bomar had a decent game under the circumstances and is clearly not afraid to run the ball. He was 13/26 for 167 yards 0 TD’s 1 INT in the air and had 3 rushes for 21 yards on the ground.
– RB Andre Brown had an up and down game but finished strong with 61 yards and a TD on 13 carries.
– RB DJ Ware was injured early in the game and was carted off.
– Rookie LB Adrian Tracy lead all tacklers with nine on defense.
– LB Keith Bulluck and S Kenny Phillips saw their first action last night.
– RB Ahmad Bradshaw scored a TD early in the game and had 28 yards on 6 carries.
– K Lawrence Tynes hit a 42 yard FG and made both of his extra point attempts. He has been having a good year so far.
– The special teams still need a lot of work. This is going to be crucial now that there are only two more preseason games remaining.
– Giants DC Perry Fewell had a solid game plan and was making the right calls during the game.
– Backup QB Jim Sorgi will most likely miss the remainder of the Giants preseason games.
– DE Osi Umenyiora had a very good game and seemed to have his burst back. If he is healthy, he should be starting opposite Tuck.
– The secondary still seemed a bit disorganized back there but they turned things around by the end of the game.
– WR Steve Smith lead all receivers with 53 yards on two receptions and also had the play of the game for Big Blue.
– The time of possession was pretty close with Big Blue grabbing 28:25 of the game.
– The Giants defense gave up 412 total offensive yards to the Steelers.
– The New Meadowlands stadium is amazing when lit up in Giant Blue.

Hello Giants Fans,
New York Giants QB Eli Manning suffered a head laceration on Monday night, requiring twelve stitches to close up the three inch gash near his left temple. He was checked for a concussion and the results came back negative, so that is a good thing. You do not need your Super Bowl MVP QB having cerebral issues before the season even starts. I see absolutely no reason why Eli Manning would play in the Pittsburgh Steelers game this Saturday night. The Giants will hold their home opener this Saturday, August 21, 2010 at 7 PM EST in New Meadowlands stadium. The team announced that Manning will be going through some additional tests as a precaution but Manning has said he feels fine and is just sore.
Head Coach Tom Coughlin said that Manning’s status is up in the air for the preseason game against the Steelers on Saturday. I hope they give Manning the night off and let him work the game from the sidelines on the headset. The obvious concern for the team is the cut continuing to open up because of the fact that Eli needs to wear a helmet. It would be smart to allow that cut time to heal before Manning puts on a helmet again. Quite frankly, Manning could run the practices at training camp without a helmet. I would rest him until the fourth preseason game if it were up to me and give that cut a couple of weeks to heal, it’s a long season and you don’t want that thing opening up every weekend.
These are all preseason games mind you but it is still a football game. Without these games on TV, fans would probably never see the likes of WR Victor Cruz (6’1″ 200 pounds) burst onto the NFL scene. Cruz, who is a local New Jersey kid, made a million new fans (including me) on Monday and became the NFL leader in scoring and receiving yards overnight. If this kid does not make the team, I am going to be in awe and will say in public that the team made a big mistake. I’m sure this comment will be redundant by the time the season starts but I still felt it needed to be said. It’s time to shake thing up a little bit, even though I like all of the guys we have at WR now. Whichever receivers do not make the final cut, I wish them well in their journey and they will be a Giant forever.
All of the preseason games should be aired for free on local television stations. It is a travesty that the networks do not work something out that allows fans the opportunity to watch the games that “mean nothing”. The Giants vs. Jets game might not have meant anything in the standings but it sure was a fun game to watch. After eight months without Giants football, I’m sure I am not the only one who felt excited to watch that game.

Hello Giants Fans, Today is Autograph Night (practice is from 3:35-4:35 PM EST) at the Giants training camp in Albany!! Fans will be able to meet the players and get their autographs. It’s a great day to bring the kids and support the Giants.
It is hard to believe but week one of the 2010 training camp is almost completed. There are now exactly fourteen days until the camp wraps up on August 20, 2010. What is even more crazy is the fact that the G-men play the Jets in their first preseason game in ten days at the new stadium. The Giants and Jets will meet on August 16, 2010 at 8PM EST in a Monday Night Football showdown. Football fans understand that this is the first preseason game of the year and that it will probably not be very competitive. The starters will not play longer then one quarter and it may even be for a single series.
Training camp has been going very well for Big Blue. Coach Coughlin mentioned the wide receiver group recently saying that they need to pull it together a little bit. I would not worry about this, I believe it is more player rust, then actual concern over ability. Rookie DE Jason Pierre-Paul continues to gain praise from the coaching staff and players. Center Shaun O’Hara is battling a nagging ankle injury and has missed most of training camp thus far. The Giants started using full pads this week and I’m sure the trainers want to be cautious with some of these players.
WR Hakeem Nicks scared the heck out of everyone after he hyperextended his right knee. Two MRI’s later in New York City and Nicks was cleared and back in Albany the next day. The Giants cannot afford to lose a player of Nicks’ caliber on offense and I’m sure the team let out a collective exhale at the good news. QB Eli Manning continues to be a rock for the team and is beginning to get in the zone as time goes on. There has been no mention of the achilles injury he suffered in 2009, so I’m assuming that he feels fine and will be good to go in 2010.
Tom Coughlin has a group of players who are on a special list that will only allow them to practice once per day. Those players include DT Jay Alford, WR Hakeem Nicks, TE Kevin Boss, LB Keith Bulluck and DE Osi Umenyiora. All of these players had recent injuries and they require special attention during training camp until they are fully healthy. WR Mario Manningham and S Deon Grant have also both missed the past couple of days at practice with groin injuries. S Kenny Phillips is still hoping to fully recover before the start of the 2010 season, while S Antrel Rolle is easing into his leadership role with the DB’s. They will not hold two a day practices today, only the one practice on the field from 2:25-4:35 PM EST.

Hello Giants Fans,
There have been some extremely interesting items in the news this past week or so regarding the Giants. The most recent being the news of Plaxico Burress’ release date of 2-3 weeks from prison on a work release program. The possibility of bringing Burress back to the Giants is very unlikely, unless he wants to play for the league minimum with zero guarantees. Would you take Plaxico Burress back if he could get in shape by the game, following the bye week? At the league minimum for eight games? What would you do?
Giants fans everywhere have been waiting all day for the Hakeem Nicks news. Nicks was sent to a Manhattan hospital to be checked out for a possible hyperextended leg. The team is expected to discuss this more when they know more about it. Losing Hakeem Nicks for any length of time would be a huge loss for the team. He is a favorite sleeper among fantasy football owners for 2010 and had a very good rookie year last season. So far, it looks like the MRI says he is fine.
I must also add that Mike Francesa did an absolutely wonderful show yesterday LIVE from the New York Giants training camp. What a treat is was for Giants fans to see all of those interviews with the players and coaches and owners. Mike always does it right and that is one show that every Giants fan looks forward to. The nygreporter was on his Giants training camp show last year as a call in. Mike and I talked about the Giants time of possession game and how it could effect their overall record. If you recall, the Giants defense on paper in 2009 was off the charts before all of the injuries started happening. Some like him and some don’t but I think he is a good guy.
– In other sports news today, New York Yankees 3B Alex Rodriguez, hit his 600th home run today off of Shawn Marcum in the 1st inning of a day game against the Blue Jays, at Yankee Stadium. He is only the seventh player in MLB history to reach the No.600 HR plateau and he is also the youngest to ever do it at 35 (his birthday was last week). Congrats Alex!

Let’s take a look at some of the recent news about the New York Giants.
– WR Hakeem Nicks is sent to a Manhatten hospital from training camp. The MRI comes back fine.
– WR Plaxico Burress to be released from prison in 2-3 weeks on a work release program. He will seek to play in the NFL once again.
– QB Eli Manning looks as calm and cool as ever. He is having a good camp and I expect him to improve on his 2009 numbers.
– LB Phillip Dillard continues to impress his peers and coaches with his natural leadership abilities. Dillard is very animated and vocal when talking to the defense.
– DC Perry Fewell is an extremely good coach. He was very thorough when I saw him at camp on Monday. He confirms that he will be experimenting until the regular season begins.
– S Kenny Phillips begins the season of the PUP list. He dresses for practice but does not participate. He looks to return soon.
– LB Keith Bulluck is bringing some of the nasty back to Big Blue. If he remains healthy in 2010, the Giants got a steal. Plus, Bulluck really wants to play in New York.
– Rookie S Chad Jones was put on waivers, then cleared waivers and is now on the Giants non-football related injured reserve list.
– The Giants signed veteran S John Busing to bolster their safety corps.
– The Giants are awarded DE Alex Hall off waivers from the Eagles.
– OL Rich Seubert has not had a beer in five days.
– RB Andre Brown looked fast and fluid during the morning practice. He will be fighting for the third strong job for now.
– CB Aaron Ross has been back on the field and playing well so far. it was good to see him running around out there during practice.
– Rookie DE Jason Pierre-Paul continues to get rave reviews from the coaches and players.
– DE Osi Umenyiora has matured to a level where he can’t be touched. I expect a terrific year for the new and improved humble Osi.
– Rookie punter Matt Dodge continues to get some coaching from the legend Jeff Feagles. I hope the Giants hire him full time.
– Backup QB Jim Sorgi was a bit shaky when I saw him during the morning practice on Monday. The backup QB spot still concerns me.
– The YES network’s Mike Francesa Show, did a LIVE broadcast yesterday from the New York Giants training camp in Albany.
– Head Coach Tom Coughlin is impressed with how many players arrived at camp in shape. He also said the team has a lot of work to do in a very short period of time.
– The Giants did not practice on the field today. They remained indoors at meetings and the weight rooms.
– The Giants will have their first “full pad” practice tomorrow on 8/5/10 at the University of Albany.

Hello Giants Fans,
I had the pleasure of going to the New York Giants training camp today for the morning session. It was a cloudy morning but the rain never came. The Giants actually started their training camp yesterday but I was unable to attend because of a previous commitment I had made. But I was there today and it was a great experience. I suggest every single Giants fan within driving distance attend at least one and cross it off of your life list. If I were to guess, I would say there were between 500-750 fans at the morning practice today.
The day started in a pretty cool way too. A couple of buddies and I pulled into the parking lot and began walking towards the field, then we noticed a car pull in and park right next to us. Can you guess who it was? It was none other than Mr. John Mara himself. He looked like he was in a hurry, so I didn’t want to try and talk to him but it was cool to see him. So if you read this Mr. Mara, please except my belated hello and best wishes.
Next we walked to the fence surrounding the field, where we remained until the practice was over. Two things that I noticed about the practice was how vocal and involved new DC Perry Fewell is and the other was how natural LB Phillip Dillard appeared to be as a leader in the MLB spot. It was also good to see CB Aaron Ross and RB Andre Brown running around. The rest of the players who you expect to play well, did. I had a really clear idea of who I wanted to keep an eye on and those mentioned stood out the most. Kenny Phillips dressed for practice but did not participate.
The practice this morning was extremely loose and the coaches were in very good spirits. As elusive as the white rhinoceros, I may have captured a photo of Coach Coughlin smiling, I’m not sure yet. The players were practicing at a good pace that was set by the coaches and they hung out in the end zone while waiting their turns. The players were about 35 feet from where I was standing at one point during the practice, so I got a lot of good photo’s (No more concerns with using pictures on our site here, since I took them all myself) of the players and coaches close up. I took roughly 600 photo’s in all today. A lot of good action shots while the team worked on their drills.

The New York Giants have signed rookie DE Jason Pierre-Paul, who was the last unsigned rookie from the 2010 draft class. The Giants are clearly impressed with Jason “Wild Thing” Pierre-Paul (that’s a nickname I gave him) because they made him their No.1 overall pick in 2010. JPP’s deal is worth roughly $20 million over five years with $11.6 million guaranteed. Some say that Pierre-Paul could be the steal of the draft, while others think the G-Men reached too high to grab him. Only time will tell but nobody can argue the fact that he is a raw, athletic freak of nature, something that doesn’t come around very often. Most scouts were comparing his body type to the original freak, Javon Kearse. The coaches will be particularly interested in seeing what No.90 JPP can do during training camp.
The fans were certainly impressed by the now infamous video of JPP, who made a bet with a team mate over who could do the most summersaults. Pierre-Paul then proceeds to flip over and over and over and over and just when you think he must surely stop any moment now, he does ten or fifteen more. The final count was somewhere in the mid-twenties and he won the bet. Why is this so impressive? Oh, I forgot to mention that Pierre-Paul is 6’5″ 270 pounds (see link in comment area).
Make no mistake about it, JPP is a work in progress. He is eager to learn according to the coaches but he went to a small college and didn’t start playing football until late in life. If his mind can catch up with his physicality, he could become a force in the NFL sooner then many think. Fans are very excited to see what JPP can do.

NEW YORK – Hello Giants Fans, how about that title? I was going to make it longer but decided against it. After watching the Giants beat the Patriots 20-17 for the final preseason game last week, I began to wonder how the G-men would do against the Panthers in week one. Giants fans want revenge for the Panthers crushing Big Blue at the end of last season. This game means a lot to the fans, no matter what is said in the newspapers or on the websites.
