Brutal 2011 NFL Schedule Will Force G-Men to Dig Deep

July 20, 2011

NEW YORK – If the New York Giants are going to make it back to the playoffs in 2011, they are certainly going to have to earn it. The G-Men have a tough overall regular season schedule this year but the second half of that schedule following the bye week is absolutely brutal. The Giants will need to be at full health and clicking in every area of their game to seriously compete with the elite of the NFL. I believe the Giants belong in that elite grouping as well but after two seasons in which they failed to make the playoffs, speculation swirls among even the most die hard fan. I know the Giants are capable of running the table when fully healthy but trying to convince others of this fact is almost impossible.

Starting in week nine, the level of competition goes through the roof. I know the Giants would not want it any other way but even the players must have been shaking their heads and saying “Are you kidding me?” Between weeks nine and seventeen the Giants will play the New England Patriots, New Orleans Saints, Green Bay Packers, Philadelphia Eagles, New York Jets and the Dallas Cowboys twice. You can also add the Washington Redskins and San Francisco 49ers to that list which rounds out the final nine games (five of those games are on the road). The rule is that any team can beat any team on any given Sunday. Having a week seven “bye week” is favorable to most teams in the NFL and the G-Men are really going to need that break before basically facing a playoff caliber team each and every week to finish out the year. This is about as tough a schedule as I can remember in recent history.

As I mentioned, if the Giants are healthy, they can beat any team in the NFL. Without having all of their weapons on the field, the odds go down considerably. Throw in the fact that the NFL has been messing around with this lockout for 131 days now and you have to wonder if the players are going suffer on the field from a lack of true conditioning. Only time will tell. The first step is to end this silly lockout which appears to be happening as I write this. Most expect a deal to be done within the next 72 hours. Let’s hope these “insiders” and “experts” are correct.

Are you concerned about the tough schedule the Giants face this season?

NEW YORK – Tons of anxious fans will be hoping to win the New York Giants fan contest that ends next week. The second thing this contest does is give true fans the chance to read some of the most interesting stories I have ever heard and to see some of the craziest photo’s I’ve ever seen. All of this of course is done with class and with good intentions. The Giants are a classy organization and would not allow anything to be out of line. Giants CB Prince Amukamara LIVE Chat on Eastbay 5/18

May 17, 2011

NEW YORK – Hello fans, are you interested in getting to know the New York Giants first round pick a little better? Do you have a question you would like to ask rookie CB Prince Amukamara? If so, you will have your chance tomorrow. Prince will be doing a LIVE Chat on Eastbay at 7:00 PM EST/4:00 PM PST (links will be provided below). The guy already has his own sneaker coming out, can you believe that? Not too bad for a rookie in New York.

The truth is New York expects big things from Prince in the future. This is a city that loves to win but also a city that has some of the smartest fans in the world. They will be with him every step of the way and I’m sure by the end of his rookie year, kids all over the five boroughs will be wearing his new Adidas sneaker (adiZero 5 STAR).

Giants fans have already had a glimpse of the Prince from his NFL Draft press conferences. Personally, I found him to be a very nice young man who will fit right into the Giants system and there is absolutely no question about his talent. He believes in faith, family and football. I like that. I don’t know how GM Jerry Reese does it but he seems to come away with classy rookies every year. I suggest all of New York come out and support this young man and check out his chat on Eastbay. I feel bad that these rookies have to deal with all of this lockout nonsense during one of the happiest times of their lives. Hopefully, they can get on the field soon and begin working with their new team mates.

I have two questions I would like to ask Prince. My first question is will he be attending any of QB Eli Manning’s “player practices” at Hoboken high school in New Jersey? My second question is what jersey number he would like to wear as a New York Giant? What are your questions for Prince?

Here is a link to the LIVE chat with Prince Amukamara at 7:00 PM EST on Wednesday 5/18/11.

Will you be checking out the Prince of New York during his LIVE chat on Eastbay? I know I will be there! www.eastbay.com/adidas

2011 NFL Training Camp: New York Giants

May 11, 2011

NEW YORK – The 2011 NFL lockout has now reached 61 days and the powers that be still haven’t worked anything out. Fans are completely sick of this situation and I know a lot of them that might not watch another NFL game as long as they live. I have to be honest, I originally thought the lockout would be over before the NFL draft, I was wrong. The NFL has to realize they are really mucking up the waters with each and every day the lockout continues. It’s time for men to act like men and get a deal done.

It is now going to affect the real work. The OTA’s, minicamps, film work, weight room workouts, free agency and most importantly training camp. Training camp is clearly the most important of all the activities I’ve listed. Everything is backed up along the process line. I’m sure head coach Tom Coughlin will adapt to the situation as best he can. The Giants organization will not make excuses and they will absolutely roll with the punches. As a fan, I’m happy to see QB Eli Manning and a handful of players take matters into their own hands by practicing at Hoboken high school in New Jersey. They were the first players that I’ve heard of doing this, holding their own little training camp during the lockout. This will be their second week of “players camp”. I applaud these professionals for demonstrating how important it is to them to improve their game and prepare for the upcoming season.

Still, the importance of training camp cannot be understated. We are just about 90 days away from the usual starting dates for training camp. It is beginning to enter a very uncomfortable period of time for both the players and owners. Something has to give soon or they will face ruining the 2011 NFL season at a time when Americans are suffering more then ever. Americans are hurting on a biblical scale right now and the fact that the NFL is considering canceling the 2011 NFL season shows how out of touch they are with society these days. They have left teams with about 90 days to accomplish everything I listed above, which isn’t very much time at all, until training camp is supposed to begin. Let’s hope the front office can figure out how to make it work and applaud them for staying calm and cool during this madness.

Giants Rookie CB Prince Amukamara is a Class Act

April 29, 2011

NEW YORK – The Giants made a solid pick in drafting CB Prince Amukamara (6’0″ 206 pounds). Nobody thought he would be available at the 19th pick, including the Giants who didn’t even bring him in for a workout because they thought it would be a lost cause. Much to everyones surprise, he was available and GM Jerry Reese did the right thing and picked him. Giants fans at Radio City Music Hall went absolutely ballistic and had been chanting his name prior to the announcement.

I would suggest that all of our readers go to Giants.com and watch all of the multimedia available on this kid. You will fall in love with this player before you’re done watching all of the video on him. He is humble, polite and clearly has a desire to become the best CB possible. He respects God and family and is exactly the type of player that Tom Coughlin loves. He had an excellent college career at Nebraska and was rated a top ten player in the 2011 draft. His energy is infectious and he really wants to improve and work on his game. Defensive coordinator Perry Fewell is the happiest person in the Giants organization this morning. Fewell works wonders with DB’s and having a young player who wants to work is like a dream come true for a DC.

I’m giving GM Jerry Reese the easiest A+ he has ever gotten in his life for making this pick. It truly was a no brainer and Giants fans can rest assured that this kid is the real deal. The Giants now have one of the scariest backfields in the entire NFL. Hopefully, we can keep DC Perry Fewell (he is getting head coaching offers) with the team for a few years and really build something special on defense.

Are you excited about the Giants landing a top ten prospect with the 19th overall pick?

2011 NFL Draft: 2 Days Away Giants Fans

April 26, 2011

NEW YORK – Well Giants fans, the 2011 NFL Draft is now 2 days away. Are you getting excited yet? I know that I am. A judge also ordered an end to the lockout yesterday, but the NFL has appealed. I don’t know how long that will last but at least it is some good news for the fans. Still, the big story of the week won’t be the extremely annoying NFL lockout, it will be the NFL draft.

I still dislike the new schedule Roger Goodell has implemented with trying to drain every ounce of publicity he can get over three days instead of the traditional draft weekend. I absolutely hate that the marquee day (round one) is now on a Thursday evening. The draft is too long and should go back to the Saturday and Sunday schedule in my opinion. I know a lot of NFL fans who completely agree with me as well.

To be honest, I am exhausted from doing all of the research on college players. Not nearly as much as the Giants scouts I’m sure, but none the less I’m ready to get started. The Giants needs have not changed at all. Usually a trade or something will mix up the draft needs assessment, but due to the lockout, that is not the case this year. I’m sticking with my original needs assessment by position and still believe the G-Men will take a OL/C or DT in round one Thursday. I know there has been a ton of hype about Big Blue grabbing a OT in the first round but I do not agree with those people. I know sticking to my original layout isn’t as exciting (list will be added below) as giving you some new info but I feel strongly about my picks.

New York Giants: 2011 Draft picks by position.

Round 1 pick – Center or Defensive Tackle (Center is clearly the bigger need here but the draft is stacked with talented DT’s)

Round 2 pick – Defensive Tackle or Linebacker (they have some nice talent at LB on the team already but DT could end up being an issue)

Round 3 pick – Cornerback (there is a lot of talent at the CB position but Fewell needs some new blood to work his magic on, depth as well)

Round 4 pick – Offensive Lineman (this could be a tackle or a guard, the o-line will need help soon and depth doesn’t hurt)

Round 5 pick – No 5th Round Pick, traded away for RB Darius Reynaud (5’9″ 201) who is used as a returner.

Round 6 pick A – Tight End (the team has a mission to get QB Eli Manning as many weapons as possible)

Round 6 pick B – Running Back (they need to add a young RB into the mix and GM Jerry Reese is good at finding talent late)

Round 6 pick C – Linebacker (keep stacking talent until you find the golden 3 that fit the best)

Round 7 pick – Cornerback or Wide Receiver (this guy should be used on special teams, get the most talented special teamer available here)

Who do you think the Giants will take with the 19th overall pick on Thursday?

2011 NFL Schedule: New York Giants Edition

April 19, 2011

NEW YORK – The NFL announced the 2011 regular season schedule today on the 39th day of the lockout. Talk about a contradiction. They should be required to add the proverbial “asterisk” next to the schedule like they do in baseball for steroids. Just to let the fans know that there still might be an interruption to the 2011 season. Hey, thanks!

I do not mean to sound condescending but this lockout is affecting thousands of people during a nationwide economic crisis. The thousands I speak of are not players or coaches or owners. They are the everyday people that work for NFL teams who aren’t millionaires. I don’t think the NFL realizes that people get paid about $300 per week (if they are lucky) for unemployment benefits. And the people that live month to month are 9 days behind on all their bills.

The release of the schedule is good news. The Giants got a very nice bye week in week seven. I always have a good time reading and planning around it. It looks like the G-Men will have a tough schedule on the road this year. The play some really tough teams. I think they will be up to the task come September after they get some work in at training camp and some time in the weight room. Enough from me, here is the 2011 NFL regular season schedule you have been waiting for fans!
