NEW YORK – The New York Giants defense was atrocious in 2009. It was embarrassing to watch the games in public, especially towards the end of the season. To be fair, it was the injuries that ultimately did the team in last year. There seemed to be two or three players going down or on the IR list every single week. It became so frustrating to see second or third string players on defense trying to contain first stringers on the opposing offenses. The 2009 season was a tough pill to swallow and something that I pray I will never have to endure again in my lifetime. Head Coach Tom Coughlin and GM Jerry Reese went straight to work when the 2009 season ended and brought in coaches and players, who will see to it that it doesn’t happen again.
So here we are now, in the middle of the 2010 NFL season and things are looking up. In fact, the New York Giants defense is owning teams this year and completely dominating opposing offenses. We are now at the bye week in week 8 and the Giants are 5-2 and in 1st place of the NFC East. The G-men have knocked 5 QB’s out of games this year including Tony Romo and Jay Cutler to name a few. They aren’t playing dirty either, all of the hits on the QB’s were legal and just unfortunate occurrences for these gentlemen.
You have to give credit to new defensive coordinator Perry Fewell, who has become a favorite to the guys in the locker room and the fans in the stands. He is a huge upgrade from former DC Bill Sheridan who only lasted one season (2009) as the Big Blue DC. Fewell is known as a secondary specialist and it shows with Big Blue having the second best defense against the pass so far this season. They also have the number two overall defense in the NFL thus far.
The Giants secondary has been lights out this year. I have given them the nickname of the “UFO Backfield” because they are flying all over the place. Someone on twitter called the Giants “Nascar” formation (when they have four defensive ends lined up to speed rush the QB) the Blue Swarm, which I thought was a cool name. The point I’m trying to make is that when you start getting the fans to give your defense a nickname, they must be doing something right. The Big Blue Wrecking Crew is getting a upgrade to their name or at the very least, adding another group of tags to be remembered forever. The 2010 Giants could be something special and end up as a top 3 defense by years end in my opinion. Keep up the great work and get those players healthy for the second half of the season.

NEW YORK – I know that the title of this story sounds a bit misleading, so let me explain. The Giants don’t have the bye week blues, it is I who has the blues. The Giants are rolling into the bye week as the best team in the NFC and they also have sole possession (5-2 record) of 1st place in the NFC East. I’m happy about their productivity but I have the blues because now we have to wait an extra week before we can see them play again. Sounds selfish I know but they way that Big Blue has dominated the past month gives me reason to want to see more.
After a shaky start to the 2010 NFL season, the G-men seem to headed back to the playoffs. Everything is clicking on defense and the offense has been moving right along but the special teams is the achilles heel of the team this year. The defense has been outstanding and new DC Perry Fewell needs to be recognized for coaching the Giants to the No.2 overall defense in the NFL. This group has been playing like a bunch of mad men. They are 2nd in the NFL against the pass and 3rd in the NFL against the run. What a difference a year makes, huh Giants fans? If this group can stay healthy and continue playing at this high level, they should finish the season as a top 3 NFL defense.
The offense is nothing to overlook either. The Giants own the No.1 rusher in the NFL in RB Ahmad Bradshaw and have the 4th best rushing team in the NFL. They are 9th best in the NFL in passing. QB Eli Manning has had some tough breaks with cheap INT’s going against him via tipped balls but other then that he has been great. A big reason for Manning’s productivity is the emergence of WR Hakeem Nicks, whom I predicted would make the pro bowl before the season started. The offensive line has survived numerous injuries and come together in a big way. RB Brandon Jacobs has been playing team ball since becoming the No. 2 RB and Bradshaw has been lights out. The rest of the WR group has been contributing exactly how we thought they would be. This is an impressive offense that can be lethal when they get in the zone.
I hope the team can get their players healthy and back on the field for the second half of the season. They are going to need every man they can get to make it back to the playoffs and to make a serious run at the Super Bowl. Even with all of the success the team has had, they still placed 10 players on the injured reserve list so far this year and seem to be turning the ball over way too much. There were some serious names on the IR list including OL WIlliam Beatty, DE Mathias Kiwanuka and WR Domenik Hixon just to name a few. This is the second consecutive year that injuries have played a role in effecting the Giants game plan. It must be frustrating for Coach Coughlin but it is nice to see the depth that GM Jerry Reese has put in place finally paying off. I fully expect the Giants to make it back to the playoffs and continue to roll to a possible 11-5 final record. Big Blue will travel to Seattle when they get through with the bye week to face a tough Seahawks team.

NEW YORK – The New York Giants faced a dismal 1-4 Dallas Cowboys team on Monday Night Football in Dallas, what could be better right? Well, a win of course. Big Blue pulled out the victory 41-35 in a strangely close game at the end of the night. The first half was littered with silly mistakes and a couple of cheap INT’s on tipped balls by Big Blue. It was also one of the best first halves of football for comebacks that I’ve seen in a while. Big Blue was down 20-7 at one point but came back to take the lead 24-20 by the time the teams headed into the locker room. The Giants simply dominated the Cowboys, who looked like a deer in headlights.
The second half was much of the same. A complete dismantling of the Dallas Cowboys to push their overall record to 1-5 on the 2010 NFL Season. The game actually became embarrassing at one point during the second half. Then the turnovers started coming fast and the Cowboys were getting garbage TD’s late in the game. Enough to make me sit up in my seat but it wasn’t meant to be as the Giants ultimately crushed Dallas’ hopes.
The G-Men are now 5-2 on the year and have sole possession of 1st place in the NFC East. This was an incredibly fun game to watch for Giants fans and the Twitter bugs were exploding with joy. It’s good to be the King.
Let’s take a look at some of my notes from the game tonight.
– QB Eli Manning collected himself after a couple of cheap INT’s to take over the game. One of the best performances I’ve seen from Manning this year. He finished with 306 yards 4 TD’s 3 INT’s.
– The Giants defense knocked out their 5th QB (Tony Romo) this season. Romo could be out for the rest of the season or 8-10 weeks.
– The Giants special teams are in dire need of some upgrades. They continue their subpar season giving up a TD on a return by rookie Dez Bryant.
– WR Hakeem Nicks just keeps on rolling with another huge game. He finished with 108 yards and 2 TD’s. He should make the pro bowl in 2010.
– The Giants offense nearly put up 500 total yards of offense, finishing with 497 total yards.
– RB Ahmad Bradshaw is running hard and breaking ankles. He never takes a play off and can be counted on to make plays. He had 126 yards in this game.
– The Giants defense is just devastating. The Cowboys offense could not do anything when they had the ball. They had 3 sacks and 2 forced fumbles.
– The Monday Night Football crew made a point of mentioning that Tom Coughlin is the oldest coach in the NFL at age 64.
– WR Steve Smith is still the silent assassin and still makes some huge catches. He finished with 101 yards and 1 TD.
– The Giants had way too many turnovers (5) in this game. They won the game tonight but they will not get far if they continue this trend of turnovers.
– WR Mario Manningham had a very nice game. He finished with 40 yards and 1 TD.
– CB Terrell Thomas lead the team in tackles and had a solid game.
– The Giants offensive line had another solid game, giving up only 1 sack. The Blue Wall does it again.
– Brandon “The Bull” Jacobs keeps getting more involved in the games. He finished with 75 yards and 1 TD 1 Fumble.
– The Dallas Cowboys made a stink about QB Eli Manning signing their wall after beating them in the first game ever at the new Cowboys stadium.
– K Lawrence Tynes made both of his FG attempts and all of his extra point attempts.
– The Giants won the time of possession game by nearly 7 minutes at 36:51 to 22:29. The Cowboys offense couldn’t do anything against Big Blue.

NEW YORK – The New York Giants played a desperate Detroit Lions team today in a game some were calling a trap game. Luckily for Big Blue, they beat the Lions 28-20 and improved to 4-2 on the season. This was a close game and I was actually nervous towards the end when the two minute warning came. The Lions played with a lot of heart and I take my hat off to them.
The Giants placed rookie WR Victor Cruz on the IR list (the 10th player added) and signed K Shayne Graham to the team after learning that K Lawrence Tynes was injured and would be inactive. Not a very good way to start the game considering all of the issues the special teams have had thus far in 2010. The good news is that the G-Men started this game with the No.1 defense in the NFL and the No.5 offense.
Former disappointing Giants safety CC Brown, made some comments about QB Eli Manning before the game. Not insulting comments but certainly judgmental. He seems to be all talk because he did not have a very good game and even appeared to try and cheap shot some of the players. A scary moment came in the second half when Lions LB Zach Follett was taken off the field on a cart, reports say he has movement in his arms and legs, Thank God. We wish him a speedy recovery.
The Detroit Lions have a lot of work to do in order to improve, I almost felt bad for them today. It’s hard to measure how good the Giants played today because the Lions are such a subpar team. A win is a win and I’m sure that nobody is complaining about it but it will be nice to see Big Blue lump up some tough teams.
Let’s take a look at some of my notes from today’s game.
– P Matt “Get Outta” Dodge turned the ball over on his first attempt. The fans officially have had enough of the rookie and I actually feel bad for the kid but he has to go.
– RB Brandon Jacobs has been quietly getting his mojo back and had another productive game. He finished with 2 TD’s on 35 yards.
– The Giants defense has been dominating the past three weeks and very fun to watch. DC Perry Fewell is a hit in New York.
– WR Steve Smith had a very good game. He led all receivers with 70 yards on 6 catches.
– QB Eli Manning had a very nice game and did not make any big mistakes. He finished with 177 yards and 2 TD’s 0 INT’s.
– DE Osi Umenyiora is beginning to get hot after his second consecutive two sack game. Osi also had two forced fumbles.
– RB Ahmad Bradshaw had another solid performance and finished the game with 133 yards.
– QB Eli Manning has passed for over 20,000 yards. His achievement today was only the second time (Phil Simms) in team history a QB has done so.
– LB MIchael Boley led all tacklers with eight for Big Blue. He is a big part of the defense and has been doing a good job.
– WR Mario Manningham got back into the mix with a nice TD grab in the 2nd quarter. He finished with 51 yards.
– The Giants defense knocked Lions QB Shaun Hill out of the game in the 2nd quarter. The 4th QB to be knocked out by the Giants this season.
– TE Kevin Boss had a good game and made a couple of big catches. He finished with 27 yards.
– S Antrel Rolle had a crucial INT in the 4th quarter to seal the victory. Great job Antrel!
– TE Travis Beckum scored a TD in the 3rd quarter. The young TE is still developing but has made strides so far.
– K Shayne Graham made all four of his extra point attempts in his first game as a New York Giant.

In the last few years, whenever anyone thought about the Giants’ offense, one of the first things that came to mind was the offensive line. One of the most coveted units in the league, the Shaun O’Hara-lead group has been a real asset to Big Blue.
Nevertheless, there comes a time where every asset depreciates. Fighting against age, O’Hara went down with an ankle injury and has now missed three consecutive games. Looking at a logic standpoint, us Giants fans should be very worried, but yet for some reason we are not. Well, I give you that reason, his name is Adam Koets.
Ever since he had to step up to cover O’Hara’s spot Koets has been playing with confidence and quality, allowing the offense not to missa beat.
Drafted in the sixth round of the 2007 draft, Koets used to play tackle at the Oregon State University, where he was a second team All Pac-10 Conference selection after helping the team to average 360.6 yards per game in his senior season. Also in his time with Oregon State, he was a three-time Academic All-Pac 10 Conference selection.
Being very smart, and an athletic player for his size (6 ft 5 300 lb), the Giants coaching staff, who favor versatile players, quickly recognized Koets’ ability to play multiple positions within the o-line, and, being in need of a backup center, decided to try him at such position during the 2009 off season.
One season later, this Santa Ana, California, native, sky diving, bungee jumping adrenaline-seeker is exactly what Big Blue hoped he would become: a quality, smart and versatile player able to fill in and keep the high level presented by owner of the position, and, most importantly, allowing me to sleep at night…

NEW YORK – The New York Giants traveled to Houston to face a very tough Texans team this Sunday. Someone should have told the Giants they weren’t supposed to win this contest because all they did was dominate the entire game. This was a great day for Big Blue who won 34-10 and seemed to have executed the perfect game plan. I do not like to use the word perfect because that adds a lot of pressure but I will say that the G-Men played extremely well and made the fans proud. My game ball goes to WR Hakeem Nicks and I give Big Blue a B+ grade for the victory.
OC Kevin Gilbride seemed to be in the zone with his play calling, which was much more aggressive then any previous game this year. DC Perry Fewell seems to be getting very comfortable in his new role and Tom Coughlin had a little more pep in his step on the sidelines all day. This is New York Giants football and the fans have to be excited from what they saw today. The Giants are now 3-2 on the season and have some momentum going into week 6.
QB Eli Manning has had an up and down season thus far but the one thing I have been surprised about is the amount of INT’s he has thrown. Some of them have come from mistakes by the wide receivers tipping the ball into the air but the others were definitely Easy Eli’s fault. He has been shaky at times and made some poor choices. I’m not overly concerned about it because I know what he can do but I wonder if it is due to a lack of confidence in the offensive line lately. He seems to be “hearing the footsteps” a lot more this year then he has in seasons past.
Let’s take a look at some of my notes from the game today.
– QB Eli Manning had a good game and seemed to be in a zone the entire first half. He finished with 297 yard 3 TD’s and 2 INT’s.
– WR Hakeem Nicks continues to shine and had another monster game. He finished with 130 yards and 2 TD’s.
– The Giants defense has taken their game to another level this week with another impressive performance. They finished with 3 sacks, 1 INT and 2 forced fumbles.
– The Giants need to find another return man before the trade deadline next week. Darius Reynaud doesn’t appear to be the guy for New York.
– RB Ahmad Bradshaw had another good game and continues to show why he is the number one back. He finished with 67 yards but had important 1st downs.
– The Giants offensive line had a very good day despite all of the injuries they entered the game with. They did not give up a sack today.
– RB Brandon Jacobs has settled into his role nicely and scored another TD for Big Blue. He finished with 41 yards and 1 TD.
– DE Osi Umenyiora had a terrific game for the Giants finishing with 2 sacks and 2 forced fumbles.
– The Giants are experiencing a very high number of injuries AGAIN this year. Something needs to be done about this. There were 8 players inactive for todays game.
– CB Corey Webster had an INT in the first half. He has been playing much better as of late.
– OL David Diehl left the game in the 2nd quarter with a leg injury. He was replaced by OL Shawn Andrews who finished the game.
– WR Steve Smith had a productive game but seems to be losing a lot of passes to WR Hakeem Nicks lately. He finished with 89 yards and 1 TD.
– The Giants are still turning the ball over way too much and still getting silly penalties. They will not make the playoffs unless this is corrected.
– Kicker Lawrence Tynes had a good day going 2/2 on FG attempts and he made all of his extra points.

NEW YORK – The New York Giants needed a big win Sunday night and the team did not disappoint the fans by putting on a defensive show and winning the game 17-3. The sack happy G-Men (nine in 1st half alone) also had their Ring of Honor ceremony at halftime. Giants.com was nice enough to have a LIVE stream of the short ceremony that had players from just about every decade. It was an electric night with all of those legends in the stadium and the fans seemed to really enjoy the festivities.
It is clear to most fans that the Giants defense has improved the most thus far and the Big Blue offense seems to be taking a step back each week. The Giants defense played their best game of the season against the Bears and the best game I can remember since the destruction of the Eagles in 2005, when the team had 12 sacks. I do not think Coach Coughlin should be concerned with all of the rumors about his job being in jeopardy. He is a terrific coach and has done a lot for the franchise since he arrived. These fair weather fans needs to keep their opinions to themselves and stop blowing up the message boards with their negativity.
The Giants needed to win this game and that is exactly what they did. They are now 2-2 on the season and might have gotten some of their mojo back.
Let’s take a look at some of my notes from the game.
– The Giants had their Ring of Honor ceremony at halftime. It was the first time in history, that the team has awarded such honors to individual players, coaches and owners.
– DE Osi Umenyiora had a terrific game with 3 sacks in the first half.
– DE Justin Tuck also had a great game and finished with 3 sacks himself.
– WR Hakeem Nicks had a great game and lead all Giants receivers with 110 yards.
– The Giants defense controlled the entire game and finished with 10 sacks, 2 INT’s and 3 forced fumbles.
– Return specialist Darius Reynaud appears to be a bust at this point. He needs to pick it up.
– Special teams might need a complete overhaul at the end of this season.
– QB Eli Manning had a mediocre game and seems to have recovered from the past two losses. He finished with 195 passing yards 0 TD’s 0 INT’s.
– RB Ahmad Bradshaw continued to show why he is the starter with another great performance. He finished with 129 yards and 1 TD.
– Former RB Tiki Barber was booed LOUDLY when his name was called for the Ring of Honor ceremony at halftime.
– OC Kevin Gilbride needs to prove himself or he could lose his job before the year is up. He is way too conservative.
– RB Brandon Jacobs had a nice game finishing with 62 yards and 1 TD.
– Rookie DE Jason Pierre-Paul had an INT in the 4th quarter that was called back on a penalty.
– The Giants wide receivers continue to drop passes that look like sure catches.
– The offensive line played much better against the Bears and they need to stay consistent if they want to get back to the playoffs.
– The Giants knocked Bears QB Jay Cutler out of the game in the 3rd quarter with a concussion. The second QB the G-Men have knocked out this year.
– The Giants then knocked out the Bears 2nd string QB Todd Collins in the 4th quarter making him the third QB knocked out by Big Blue this year.
– DC Perry Fewell had his breakout game tonight as far as coaching is concerned. Total defensive dominance in this game for Big Blue.
– The G-men are still turning the ball over way too much and need to stop getting so many penalties.
– K Lawrence Tynes missed another FG. He is beginning to make me worry like he did last year.

NEW YORK – The Giants lost to the Titans today by the score of 29-10 in a very bad game. Notice how I am not using the angry man tone in favor of the “I’m just really disappointed in you” voice. That’s the tone for this game, a head shaker and at times unbearable to watch. It hurts me to even have to write about the Giants like this but millions of people saw exactly what I did. There is no defending the team on this one, the players have to take responsibility for this one and move forward.
The fans have started asking for head coach Tom Coughlin to be fired. This is not going to happen and if Coach Coughlin decides to retire next year or if the Giants decide to find another coach (Cowher) then so be it. I’m a fan of Tom Coughlin. Let’s not forget what he inherited and how much character he brought to the organization. People are entitled to their opinions but let’s stay classy Giants fans. Trying to get a coach or player fired from making a living is not cool.
So many things went wrong in this game that I honestly do not feel like listing them all here for you. The team knows what happened, the fans saw what happened and I’m too drained to give a lengthy breakdown of all that went wrong. I will make it short and sweet. The offense played poorly even though they moved the ball, the defense played decent but seemed to lose it in the fourth quarter and the special teams were not very good at all. I would feel like I was picking on the team by describing this atrocious game.
There were some players who I thought had a good game, including RB Ahmad Bradshaw, WR Steve Smith, TE Kevin Boss, WR Mario Manningham, S Kenny Phillips, DE Mathias Kiwanuka. I’m sure I’m missing one or two guys but these stood out the most. QB Eli Manning was 34/48 for 386 yards 0 TD’s 2 INT’s. He needs to take control of the offense again by having a great game against their next opponent, the Chicago Bears on Sunday. The team will need to dig down deep for week four and pull out a win before things get out of hand. They should be 2-1 right now, let’s not make it 1-3 next week.

NEW YORK – The morning after and embarrassing loss to the Indianapolis Colts, the New York Giants’ former thousand yard rusher asks for a trade, this according to Sports Illustrated and numerous other sources. RB Brandon Jacobs, who had back to back thousand plus yard seasons in 2007 and 2008 (despite missing a few games in each season) has not seen anywhere near that success since the departure of Derrick Ward. In this still very fresh season, Jacobs is averaging 3.3 yards per carry, and only had 8 yards on 4 carries last night.
It should also be noted that he had a mishap in the third quarter in which his helmet ended about ten rows deep in the lap of a Colts’ fan. Jacobs claims he was frustrated and told reporters that he did not attempt to throw his helmet into the stands it merely got caught on his fingers. The league is investigating the incident and it is likely that Jacobs will be fined.
Jacobs did not see another carry the rest of the night after the incident occurred and ESPN reports that when asked about this Jacobs once again lost his temper. This isn’t the first time Jacobs lost his cool over playing time. In the preseason, Jacobs was demoted to backup behind RB Ahmad Bradshaw and Jacobs was furious. While that was only a short while ago, it is discouraging to see that he was not able to work through this time in his career.
While seeing a Giant who was truly a Big Blue icon turn sour is sad, it is even worse to look at the depth chart and realize trading him may not be an option. Behind Jacobs, on the roster, are DJ Ware and return man Reynaud. D.J. has shown some promise, but his running style is none too different from that of Bradshaw and would not be a good change of pace back in this situation. The only way Jacobs would be dealt is if another back was given in return.
That being said, it is hard to gauge how much interest their will be for a seemingly washed up bruiser like Jacobs. Few teams play the bruising style and it is hard to know who would be interested in his services. A few name come to immediate mind though.
Buffalo may be the most obvious option. None of their backs have seen outstanding production as injuries have pushed C.J. Spiller into the starting role. There has been some speculation that they are trying to move on of their backs though so bringing another one in, or even trading one for one, doesn’t make much sense. Another name in the mix might be Oakland, although McFadden had a decent game yesterday nothing Al Davis does can come as a surprise anymore.
It would be very difficult to see Jacobs leave, especially on these terms. Unless he can turn it around just like Osi did earlier this year, I think he has to go. There is no sense in keeping around an unruly and unhappy back if he isn’t producing, what’s the point. If the Giants can find any hint of value, I urge Jerry Reese to pull the trigger on this one.

NEW YORK – Good morning Giants fans! I suggest you enjoy your breakfast, go for a jog or maybe get some shopping out of the way. Why do I suggest staying busy? Because it is going to be a very long day waiting for the 8:20 PM EST kickoff. I am writing this article to give you a few minutes of entertainment about Big Blue, as you watch the clock slowly grind the minutes away until kickoff.
This is going to be a good game. I give this game a ninety percent chance of living up to the hype. If you read our previous article, then you know I am taking brother Eli to win this game. I see the Giants winning by three points and I would not be surprised at all if this turned into an instant classic. These two love each other but when Peyton and Eli get on the field, trust me, they want to beat each other. Fans continue to read about how their parents are going to have a hard time watching this game. I’m sure they will be on hand to console whichever brother losses and one thing for certain is that there will be a winner and a loser, no ties here my friends.
Their father Archie (aka the luckiest father in the world) Manning should get one of those split jerseys with half Giants and half Colts sewn together (they might have already thought of this) to show support for both of the brothers.
Some of the recent news about the Giants include the fact that they have some players ruled out for today’s game. Those players include TE Kevin Boss, LB Chase Blackburn, OL William Beatty and LB Phillip Dillard. There are also some players who are questionable, they include WR Hakeem Nicks and DE Osi Umenyiora. CB Aaron Ross will play today and could this be the game where we see WR Victor Cruz gets his first game time logged? The G-Men also signed OL Dennis Landolt to the practice squad after releasing LB Bryan Kehl (a move I do not agree with). They also activated TE Bear Pascoe from the practice squad, due to TE Kevin Boss’ injury.
There are a few players that I expect will have a very good game, this is for all of you fantasy football players out there. Those players include DE Mathias Kiwanuka (Kiwi is going to explode today, 2 sacks minimum), WR Steve Smith, RB Ahmad Bradshaw, QB Eli Manning. I expect WR Mario Manningham to have an above average game and I believe RB Brandon Jacobs will get a goal line TD today as well. There is a reason why this game is being aired on prime time. Enjoy the game! Go Giants!

NEW YORK – The New York Giants defense was atrocious in 2009. It was embarrassing to watch the games in public, especially towards the end of the season. To be fair, it was the injuries that ultimately did the team in last year. There seemed to be two or three players going down or on the IR list every single week. It became so frustrating to see second or third string players on defense trying to contain first stringers on the opposing offenses. The 2009 season was a tough pill to swallow and something that I pray I will never have to endure again in my lifetime. Head Coach Tom Coughlin and GM Jerry Reese went straight to work when the 2009 season ended and brought in coaches and players, who will see to it that it doesn’t happen again.
