There is a date I have marked on my calendar and that date is September 19, 2010. That is the day when QB Eli Manning will play against his older brother, QB Peyton Manning. The New York Giants will travel to Indianapolis and play the Colts. The NFL was smart enough to schedule it to be the night game (8:20 PM EST on NBC) so the entire NFL community can watch and enjoy this battle. This could prove to be a very significant game in Eli Manning’s career. It’s no big secret that the two brothers are extremely competitive but what some of our readers might not know is, that they are each others biggest competition. Do not underestimate how powerful a victory would be, against brother Peyton.
September 10, 2006 was the date of their first matchup. The Colts ended up beating the Giants that night by the score of 26-21. The New York Giants were at home and the team played their hearts out. Peyton had a decent game racking up 276 yards 1 TD 1 INT, while little brother (6’4″ 225 pounds) Eli threw for 247 yards 2 TD’s 1 INT.
There is something significant I must point out prior to Manning Bowl II, this is not the same Eli Manning the Colts faced in 2006. That was a very long time ago and Eli Manning is now in the prime of his career. Back in 2006, Tiki Barber was still the starting running back and Jeremy Shockey was still on the team. This is 2010 and a lot of the guys on the Giants are Super Bowl Champions, just like the players on the other side of the ball. Eli Manning is now a Super Bowl MVP, just like, well, his brother Peyton. It is clear that Peyton has the better career numbers at this point in both of their career’s. Peyton has also been playing much longer then Easy Eli. It’s all relative (pun intended) and when these two warriors hit the field, all bets are off and anything can happen.
I truly believe that this will be a huge year for Eli Manning and beating Peyton, will be a side story compared the Pro Bowl numbers I expect Eli to produce this season. So here is my prediction for final bottom line numbers of Manning Bowl II. Enjoy!
FINAL QB STATISTICS
QB Eli Manning – 28/37 – 315 yards 3 TD’s 0 INT’s
QB Peyton Manning – 33/45 – 323 yards 2 TD’s 2 INT’s
FINAL SCORE
New York Giants – 34
Indianapolis Colts – 27
Are you excited about the match up between brothers Eli and Peyton Manning this season? Who do you think will have a better game?
