Congrats to Victor Cruz on Winning The Vizio TVP Award

NEW YORK – On behalf of the nygreporter, I would like to say Congrats to New York Giants WR Victor Cruz on winning the Top Value Performer Award given by Vizio and voted on by the fans. I am happy that I have followed his career from training camp back in 2010 in Albany. You knew you were looking at a good football player. He was catching everything thrown to him and had worked out during the lockout with QB Eli Manning in Hoboken. Which was nothing for Cruz who grew up in Paterson, so he is very familiar with Hudson County New Jersey. So Cruz hung out with Super Bowl MVP Eli Manning and played catch on a high school field. Cruz is a star now in the New York and New Jersey areas. The well mannered and friendly ‘Salsa King’ is a good face for New York football and all of the local kids who hope to play for the Giants one day. Expect to see a lot more of him.

How about the job Giants GM Jerry Reese did with this young man? There are three players that need to get paid next year and they are WR Victor Cruz, DE Jason Pierre-Paul and DE Osi Umenyiora. I’m convinced Osi needs to finish his career with the Giants and be signed for a long term contract. The same goes for Victor Cruz who deserves a five year deal in my opinion. I would like to say good luck to Victor and the New York Giants in Super Bowl XLVI. The fans are behind you guys hunting those rings. I’m all in!

The Super Bowl is now only 8 days away and the Pro Bowl is tomorrow 1/29/12 at 7:00 PM EST. Enjoy the game NFL fans!

How Do You Beat Belichick and The New England Patriots?

NEW YORK – You can be sure of one thing on Super Bowl Sunday, the New England Patriots are going to play unconventional football. The Giants special teams group will need to play their best game of the year. I expect Big Blue to win 38-27 as I’ve said before. Giants DC Perry Fewell will need to have his head screwed on right for this one and stay focused on the game plan. The Giants defense is going to hit Tom Brady often and knock him down every few plays. Keep an eye on those speedy running backs of the Patriots on the outside. I would work on that a lot and defending play action. Brady will throw five or six bomb passes in this game and at least one will get intercepted. Corey Webster deserves a Super Bowl INT for his season.

Some specific players that will need to bring their game to another level are DT Linval Joseph, DT Chris Canty, WR Jerrel Jernigan, LB Jacquian Williams, CB Aaron Ross, RB Ahmad Bradshaw and TE Jake Ballard. There are other players too but if these guys played the game of the year for themselves personally, the Giants might have the lead the entire game. With only one win left until NFL immortality, the Giants must follow the leader and relax as Eli Manning does. He is calm, cool and deadly. The Giants players and coaches know they can beat this Patriots team, they must not let that get to them. Stay focused and relaxed and enjoy the ride, because Eli Manning will not be denied. Giants fans will most likely see a lot of the ‘Nascar’ defense with all defensive ends lined up. This will create havoc and force a turnover or two possibly, hopefully.

My pre-game defensive stars of the game predictions are DE Jason Pierre-Paul, LB Mathias Kiwanuka, DE Osi Umenyiora, S Antrel Rolle and CB Corey Webster. The Giants have five main threats from the Patriots offense, they are QB Tom Brady, WR Wes Welker, TE Rob Gronkowski, TE Aaron Hernandez and RB Danny Woodhead. The Giants offensive threats are deeper then the Patriots when you look at it. The offensive weapons for Big Blue include QB Eli Manning, RB Ahmad Bradshaw, WR Hakeem Nicks, WR Victor Cruz, WR Mario Manningham, RB Brandon Jacobs and TE Jake Ballard. Giants special teams coach Tom Quinn is going to need a solid game plan for the Patriots in this game. Expect the desperate Belichick to turn into trickster if the game is close.

12/24/11 Christmas Eve DAC Day 24, Ho Ho Ho

December 24, 2011

NEW YORK – It is Christmas Eve everyone and the Giants play the Jets. It’s going to be a fun day with family enjoying the game for me. I hope everyone enjoys their Christmas Eve and I look forward to discussing the game on Monday. This is bigger then the need to get a win, this is a battle for New York. The fans all know it and so do I. There is a lot of pride on the line in this game for both teams and coming out with the win is a must. Just like in that movie “The Invasion” we need to get some Big Blue jerseys in MetLife stadium for the game. Excuse me, I mean Giants stadium.

The Giants have to play and beat the Dallas Cowboys next week in the season finale at MetLife stadium. That will surely be one of the hottest tickets of the year because the Giants playoff hopes depend on that win. The fans will be out in force rain, sleet or snow for this one. I expect the tailgating to be huge for the finale and fans can have a blast just hanging out until kickoff if they weren’t fortunate enough to get tickets. Never drink and drive of course and be sure to have a designated driver to get you home. Remember, be safe, kids go to games too.

Whatever religion you are or what holiday you celebrate, I wish all of you a happy holiday season equally. I celebrate Christmas and write about what I know. I hope you can all respect that. Feel free to leave a comment about what holiday you celebrate and how you do so.

1. What is your favorite Christmas movie?

Hampton Answer: Rudolph the red nosed reindeer and Santa Claus is coming to town. Classic ABC movies for the holidays.

2. What is your favorite Christmas dinner?

Hampton Answer: I don’t really have a favorite dinner. We always have so much food around, a feast, that there is always something good to eat. 

3. What is your favorite Christmas drink?

Hampton Answer: a glass of red wine, a merlot.

4. What type of music do you listen to on Christmas eve?

Hampton Answer: I have a piano that plays by itself and we love to listen to the Christmas carols from there. The piano music really puts me in the Christmas spirit. 

5. What Christmas traditions do you and your family have and celebrate?

Hampton Answer: We play a game called The White Elephant Gift Exchange (Google it for the rules) on Christmas day. It’s so much fun because no one can control the gift they receive and some of us purchase gifts that no one wants. It’s so much fun!

12/14/11 Christmas DAC Day 14, The NYG Offense

NEW YORK – It feels very strange to talk about how good the Giants offense is. Not because I haven’t seen stellar offense from Big Blue in the past but because New York is known for it’s defense. The truth is the Giants offense is very good. The rushing game has been poor all year but the passing game has flourished. QB Eli Manning deserves to go to Hawaii for the Pro Bowl. WR Victor Cruz deserves to go to the Pro Bowl. WR Hakeem Nicks deserves to go to the Pro Bowl. TE Jake Ballard deserves to go to the Pro Bowl. A couple of offensive linemen deserve to go to Hawaii. I would include WR Mario Manningham here but he missed a few games with injury (I know Nicks did too) and it effected his overall numbers. A lot of guys are stepping up in 2011 and no one is benefitting from that more then Eli Manning.

I’m not sure what happened to the Giants running game but it has been non-existent for most of 2011. Ahmad Bradshaw and Brandon Jacobs have both missed time due to injuries. The Giants offensive line got off to a shaky start but have been doing a much better job, despite all of the injuries like LT William Beatty and C David Bass missing considerable time. The Giants have shut out opposing defenses a few times and not allowed a single sack. The Giants and GM Jerry Reese should heed my warning, please draft an offensive lineman in the first round of the 2012 draft.  I was certain the G-Men would take a Center or Linebacker in round one last year but when CB Prince Amukamara fell to our pick, it was clear he was the best available at a skill position.

The Giants will need to protect franchise QB Eli Manning who has one heck of an NFL Iron Man Streak going on, third in NFL history as of today (behind only Brett Favre and Peyton Manning). Prior to the Cowboys game on Sunday night, they showed a graphic of all four NFC East teams and the QB’s they’ve started since Eli Manning was drafted. I think two teams had used seven different QB’s and one team had used eight during the time Manning has been the leader of New York’s offense. That really says something and it is about time these media guys and girls give Manning his due. Easy Eli has already eclipsed the 4,000 yard passing mark for a third consecutive year and it looks like 2011 is going to end up being a career year for him.

Rookie RB Da’Rel Scott has shown flashes of greatness and his speed is undeniable. I expect great things from this young man in the future. Rookie WR Jerrel Jernigan has also had a few opportunities to show what he can do. It is difficult to get playing time right now because the G-Men are so deep at the WR position. RB DJ Ware has helped out and done well when needed. TE Travis Beckum has been getting a little more playing time now, while TE Bear Pascoe is primarily a blocker and bulldozer up the middle. The Giants offense is the real deal and has been carrying this team all year.

The Giants will play Wellington Mara’s favorite rivalry, the Washington Redskins this weekend (12/18/11 at 1:00 PM EST at MetLife stadium). The Giants lead the all-time series 91-64-4. Did you know the Giants versus Redskins rivalry is the oldest in the NFC East and one of the oldest in the NFL?

12/5/11 Christmas DAC Day 5, Monday Big Blues

NEW YORK – Hello Giants fans, that was a tough loss against the Packers last night. I knew it would be a close game but I really thought the Giants were going to win. The undefeated Packers continue rolling and deserve the victory. The reason I gave that side note of Monday Big Blues in the article title is obvious. With only four games left in the season, the G-men need to do everything in their power to win all four of those games. If they fail to do so, they will be swimming in the blues until next year.

The playoffs are right around the corner and the Giants fans need their postseason fix after missing the past two years. Do I think it’s possible? Absolutely. The Giants need to get some players healthy on defense to get really busy on the field. Now we learn that S Kenny Phillips was injured in Sundays game and it only gets worse. In my honest opinion, the Giants are lucky to have the record they own with all of these injuries. It is a testament to the depth on the New York squad but still, a 6-6 record is nothing to cheer about.

DAC Fact

Yes, the Giants lost to the undefeated Green Bay Packers (12-0) and it looks like QB Aaron Rodgers is a sure thing to win the NFL MVP for 2011. He has been playing on another level this year and breaking records. Which got me thinking, how many New York Giants players have won the NFL MVP? Do you think you know the answer? Faithless Whisper Secrets in Dark Corners About the Giants

NEW YORK – There are a lot of people out there who have given up on the New York Giants. I am not one of them. The Giants must win four of the last five games to make the playoffs in my opinion but we’ll see what happens. Maybe three wins gets them in depending on the state of the NFC in a few weeks. Forgive my ‘Gladiator’ title to this article but it feels like the end of that movie to me, when everything seems surely lost and the odds are stacked against you. Maybe Coach Coughlin should screen that film for the guys before the Packers game to inspire the men.

The moment has arrived for the Giants. The last five games will not define this depleted roster but it will give the other players a ton of valuable experience. When the Giants finally field a healthy team, they will make a run deep into the playoffs. I know people will say “no excuses” but this really goes beyond that. The Giants have lost about 15 players this season and a number of players are playing banged up. Couple that with the fact that the Giants have lost about 25 players to IR for the two years prior to this one. Some might call that an epidemic when looking at it on paper. The Giants have now consistently lost 20% of their team due to injury for three straight years. No wonder they’ve missed the playoffs for back to back years and now find themselves in jeopardy of making it three in a row. If they can’t find a way to win some games down the stretch, there might be some big changes coming to New York.

The time has come to throw caution out of the window when it comes to the play calling. Both Coach Fewell and Coach Gilbride need to be dynamic against Green Bay and realize that the season is on the line. Break out some of those plays you were saving for a rainy day. That day is here and it is pouring outside. We need some real change, real quick. Some of these players who are filling in are truly playing to the best of their ability, so I thank them all for their effort. And for the Giants fans who have lost faith and believe that the season is over, all I have to say to you is, I’ll see you in the playoffs.

New York Giants Starring in Road Warriors Part II?

NEW YORK – The Giants have been winning games lately and I noticed that they have already won 3 out of 4 on the road. The will play in road game number 5 on Sunday against the 49ers. If they win that game, could we be looking at the Road Warriors Part 2 here? They have also won 3 out of 4 home games. Winning more on the road and having your Christmas Eve game against the Jets away (still played at MetLife stadium), the G-Men could go for 6 or 7 wins on the road this year. The last 3 road game will be against tough opponents. They will face the New Orleans Saints, Dallas Cowboys and New York Jets Jets on the road after playing the 49ers in San Francisco this Sunday. If the Giants win in Frisco, they will be 4-1 on the road and I think they would finish by beating the Cowboys and Jets. The Packers are the biggest test of the entire schedule though and that is a home game at MetLife stadium.

Why am I bringing all of this up? Because of the obvious similarities to the 2007 team, that fans have been comparing the 2011 team to for weeks. The ‘Road Warriors’ nickname was bestowed on them in 2007 by the fans and media. I try not to buy into that too much because I don’t want to throw any bad karma on what’s happening this year. I am very excited to see them play the 49ers this Sunday and think a win there would really make their playoff chances shoot up exponentially. Is it too early in the season, at week ten, to start wondering about a possible playoff game from the G-Men this season? I certainly hope so after missing the playoffs for the past two years in a row. Last year was a joke. How the Giants did not get into the playoffs with a 10-6 record shows the flaws in the system. Coach Coughlin said you can kiss his butt if you don’t like it. He said that 10-6 is a winning season and a good record. I agree with him. The 2011 season is a different story and looks very promising. If the Giants beat the 49ers, then to be true to myself, it makes me think the Giants are almost a lock to get to the playoffs. It would take a historical collapse or something for them to miss the playoffs in 2011.

Let’s get something straight, QB Eli Manning is an ELITE Super Bowl Champion, Super Bowl MVP, Pro Bowl player, Road Warrior and franchise quarterback who happens to be an Iron Man in the game of NFL football. Give him the respect he has earned. If Manning does not get voted into the Pro Bowl this year, I will know the game is rigged. By the way, fan voting has already started at NFL.com. He is playing out of his mind this year and deserves these few words of acknowledgment for what he has built this year. He is also the team MVP for the year in my opinion. Manning continues to prove the doubters wrong and play the game on his own terms. He is a great leader on the field and a role model for kids off the field. What more can you ask of a quarterback for an NFL team?

Speaking of the Pro Bowl, if I had to guess, I can see a bunch of Giants players that deserve to go to Honolulu. Players like QB Eli Manning, OL Chris Snee, WR Hakeem Nicks, WR Victor Cruz, TE Jake Ballard, DE Osi Umenyiora, DE Jason Pierre-Paul, LB Michael Boley, S Antrel Rolle, P Steve Weatherford. How many of these guys get in will be revealed down the road. I say at least four or five of these guys will be in Hawaii. I think everyone can agree the 2011 NFL MVP will most likely be Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers. Rodgers will be in Hawaii and Manning deserves to be there too. As of this date and halfway point of the 2011 season, QB Eli Manning has thrown for 2,377 yards 15 TD’s 6 INT’s.

How many of the 3 road games (Saints, Cowboys and Jets) left to play this year will the Giants win? How do the Giants playoff chances look mid-way through the year?

Giants Lose Half of their Starting Offense in 2011

NEW YORK – The New York Giants might have to change their name to the New Look Giants this season. The team has been hit with a string of bad news (karma is a female dog) in recent weeks and the team has lost half of their starting offense. The news about WR Steve Smith going to the rival Eagles yesterday sealed the deal for me. I have been a very big fan of GM Jerry Reese and have showered him with praise since the first year he came to the team. But even my faith has been shaken by the mass exodus of pro bowl athletes in 2011. Think about this for a moment, the Giants have lost OL Rich Seubert, OL Shaun O’Hara, TE Kevin Boss, FB Madison Hedgecock and WR Steve Smith. All five of these guys were starters in an offense that requires eleven men. You do the math.

The Giants also lost some other quality guys such as OL Shawn “Fan Fav” Andrews, DT Barry Cofield (who also went to division rival, the Redskins). They are in a contract battle with all pro DE Osi Umenyiora, they lost CB Bruce Johnson to injury and cut him. They signed TE Ben Patrick who turned around and retired on them and they have lost their 1st round pick CB Prince Amukamara for two months. When it rains, it pours. There were other transactions made but these mentioned are the big deals and the team still hasn’t addressed all of the free agents that need signing. The Giants play their first preseason game in two days and will need to get a ton of new players up to speed on the playbook and the system. I’m not sure how they will fair but I wish them good luck with that.

I cannot remember a year in recent memory where the Giants lost so many quality players within a one month period of time. I’m not sure if there ever was a similar situation in team history. Yes, the team has signed some players but they hardly replaced all of the talent the team lost. I hope Jerry Reese knows what he is doing because this will be an unrecognizable group of players on the field to the true blue fan. The fact that the team was six million dollars over the salary cap certainly plays into the mix but that also begs the question of why? Who was watching the salary cap and allowed this to happen? Rabid fans have been calling for the head of Jerry Reese and for changes in the front office as a whole. I will keep my opinions to myself until I see what the team does in 2011. I will not panic but I am certainly deeply concerned.

My Question to the NFL: What Should I Do?

NEW YORK – After 117 days of the 2011 NFL Lockout, I have only one question for the NFL, what should I do? Taking a serious look at this situation has forced me to ask the question. Just like the thousands of NFL employees who make a modest wage working long hours for the teams and offices. What should they do? Just as the LeBron James commercial begged the question to the public, I pose the same question to you NFL, what should I do? I am a football writer and as such I need team news, game news, practice reports, transactions and scenarios to write about.

How much is enough? I am floored by the possibility of losing an entire NFL season because of disagreements over money. I am disgusted by the fact that a room full of adults cannot come to a friendly agreement and get back to work. There are millions of Americans unemployed right now and tens of millions on food stamps. Make a fair deal for all parties involved and stop embarrassing yourselves publicly. If you think the average guy on the street has sympathy for your situation, you are mistaken. The average guy on the street knows he is a small part of making that $9 billion pot of gold for the NFL each and every year. We are 32 days (8-7-11) away from the Hall of Fame game and there is still no deal in place? What should I do?

Should I forget my dream of getting a paid job writing for the New York Giants after almost 3 years of writing for free? What should I do?

Should I give in agree with my family and friends, who tell me that I am wasting my time writing about NFL football? What should I do?

Should I stop being an NFL fan and refuse to buy another ticket or watch another game on TV due to bitterness? What should I do?

Should I become an anti-NFL writer from now on and point out all of the negative aspects of the game and business? What should I do?

Should I drop all of the players on my fantasy football team and never play the game again? What should I do?

Should I delete this website and create a new one dedicated to the philosophy of labor negotiations? What should I do?

Should I take all of my football memorabilia and authentic Giants jerseys and sell them on eBay? What should I do?

Should I stop using any products that sponsor the NFL and their business in protest? What should I do?

Should I handcuff myself to the front gate of Giants stadium like some nut until the lockout ends? What should I do?

Should I stop using my twitter account to interact with other Giants fans and discuss NFL football? What should I do?

At the end of the day, it will be my decision to make and I’m confident that what ever I choose to do, it will be the right decision for me. I will know what to do when the time is right. The issue here should not be all of the questions I have asked above but rather why a loyal fan of the NFL should have to ask all of these questions? At a time when America is hurting, you assume that the fans will be at your doorstep once this lockout ends begging to see the show. After nearly 4 months of headaches, don’t be too sure. It is arrogant to assume that business will be booming following a lockout that should have never occurred in the first place. You reap what you sow and I fully expect the NFL to lose fans over this lockout. Despite the popular belief that the fans will always be there, the reality of unshakeable integrity is overlooked. Some people cannot be bought and some people will not trade honor for glory.

This is something that I have wanted to do for a while and think our readers will appreciate the convenience of going straight to the official New York Giants team store if they decide they want to buy something. If you want to learn how you can do this for your own website, using your own favorite team, I suggest you check out an affiliate program and learn how to Find a sponsor for your web site. Get paid for your great content.  You get a percentage for using team ads.
