NFL Week 15: Giants vs. Redskins, Game Notes

December 18, 2011

NEW YORK – The Giants played the division rival Redskins today in a big game. The G-Men and fans were looking to avenge the opening day loss to Washington with a sweet revenge victory at MetLife stadium. The Redskins weren’t having it and beat up the G-Men the whole game before winning 23-10. As if the playoff picture needed any further clarity, the Giants will need to win both of their final regular season games if they want to make it back to the playoffs. The G-Men face a very good New York Jets team next weekend on Christmas Eve at 1:00 PM EST. It’s the Game of the Week as far as I’m concerned. This year, the battle for New York will be televised.

The Redskins scored in every quarter of this game and seemed to do whatever they wanted on offense. The Giants QB Eli Manning was intercepted three times and had 0 TD’s. There were some dropped balls in this game that had fans frustrated. The first half was brutal to watch as Washington moved the ball at will and quickly dropped 10 points on the Giants. The Redskins took a 17-3 lead into the locker room at halftime and the Giants were to receive the ball for the start of the third quarter. The Giants offense was anemic and could not make any big plays, they really seemed to be playing in slow motion. The Giants scored a garbage TD late in the 4th quarter but the damage was done. The Giants ran out of time and lost a game they should have won.

Let’s take a look at my notes from the game.

QB Eli Manning – Manning had a frustrating day and finished with 257 yards 0 TD’s and 3 INT’s.

RB Ahmad Bradshaw – AB had a quiet game despite scoring a late TD in the 4th quarter.

WR Hakeem Nicks – Nicks led all WR’s for Big Blue and finished with 73 yards 0 TD’s.

DE Justin Tuck – Justin Tuck got banged up early but continued to play. He was in on some big plays.

LB Michael Boley – Boley was making plays all over the field as usual. He finished 2nd on the team in tackles.

WR Mario Manningham – Super Mario was second on the team for WR’s and finished with 57 yards.

LB Mathias Kiawnuka – Kiwi was making some hard hits out there and causing havoc.

DE Jason Pierre-Paul – You down with JPP? The Beast led all tacklers on defense and also had 1 sack.

WR Victor Cruz – Cruz had a quiet day by his recent standards. He finished with 44 yards.

S Kenny Phillips – Phillips had a nice game and finished with 1 INT.

RB Brandon Jacobs – Brandon the Bull had a quiet game and finished with 33 yards 0 TD’s.

S Antrel Rolle – Rolle was balling out there and making big hits. He finished with a couple of big plays his way.

TE Jake Ballard – Ballard got banged up and is scheduled for an MRI tomorrow. He finished with 15 yards.

CB Aaron Ross – Ross had a decent game and did his best out there.

DT Chris Canty – Canty was fired up for this game and made a couple of big hits out there.

CB Corey Webster – Webster continues to make plays on the field and he also nabbed 1 INT.

DT Linval Joseph – Linval had a quiet game by his recent standards. He is becoming a force in the NFL.

CB Prince Amukamara – Prince is basically being thrown into the fire. He will learn from this year and get better.

P Steve Weatherford – The Weatherman continues his consistent play and has become a fan favorite.

K Lawrence Tynes – Tynes missed a FG attempt and made his only other attempt. He also made one extra point.

Giants Offense – The offense seemed sluggish and out of sync today. I was very disappointed with their performance.

Giants Defense – The defense could not stop the Redskins to save their lives today. They must forget about it and focus on the Jets.

Giants Special Teams – Once again, this group will be overhauled in a few weeks. Reese will make the right moves.

What did you think about the Giants performance against the Redskins?

12/18/11 Christmas DAC Day 18, Game Day Fact

December 18, 2011

NEW YORK – The Giants (7-6 record) play the Redskins at MetLife stadium (Giants stadium) today at 1:00 PM EST. They are about to avenge the opening day loss to Washington. I believe the Giants will win this game out right and very convincingly. My final score prediction is Giants 42 – Redskins 27. The Giants front four on defense will get to the Redskins QB Rex Grossman often. Look for DE Jason Pierre-Paul to have another brilliant game. JPP and Easy Eli are the two ‘sure things’ for the Pro Bowl from Big Blue in my opinion. WR Victor Cruz is making a nice argument for himself too. The G-Men will need all of these guys to step up in order to beat a Redskins team that isn’t so bad really. They had a hot start in the beginning of the year and now find themselves in the middle of the pack (4-9 record) like the rest of the NFC East. Washington lost TE Fred Davis over suspensions and WR Santana Moss is returning from a bad injury. The Redskins defense is middle of the pack and their running game stinks just like the Giants, both are ranked 30th and 31st respectively. I expect the Giants defense to collect 3 sacks minimum.

Big Blue then faces the Jets on Christmas Eve for New York bragging rights. The Jets are going to shut down WR Hakeem Nicks with Revis Island and the running game will struggle. I look for WR Victor Cruz and TE Jake Ballard to have a big day along with QB Eli Manning. The Giants passing attack is potent with many contributors. The Jets simply do not have enough Revis islands to cover all of the Giants threats. If it were up to me, I would run a lot of 4 WR sets against the Jets defensive backfield and dare them to blitz. Manning excels at play action passing.

The really important game will come on New Year’s Day when the Giants face the Cowboys in Metlife stadium for the season finale. I believe the Jets will be the toughest game of all three. The Giants should beat the Redskins and have already beaten the Cowboys this year. The Jets defense is a top ranked defense and I am anxious to see how our top rated passing offense does against them. Look for RB Brandon Jacobs to score a goal line TD and RB Ahmad Bradshaw to break off a long run for a TD with a big play. The bulk of the blow out points will come from Manning throwing 3 or 4 TD’s with maybe 1 INT. The Giants control their own destiny.

DAC Fact

Beating the Redskins is one of the keys to making it back to the playoffs for Big Blue. Do you know how many times the Giants have made an appearance in the playoffs? Can you believe 30 times since 1933! The 1970’s are the only decade since the 1930’s, that the G-Men failed to make the post season. In recent years, the Giants have made the playoffs six times from 2000-2010.

Do you think the Giants will beat the Redskins today?

12/17/11 Christmas DAC Day 17, Rodney Hampton Returns!

December 17, 2011

NEW YORK – Hello Giants fans, our good friend Rodney Hampton kindly agreed to answer a couple of other questions about the holidays and Christmas in particular. He is clearly a family man and someone who takes tradition very seriously. He was also nice enough to answer a couple of questions asked by our readers. And just as a disclosure, yes this is the real Rodney Hampton and not some impostor. Take comfort in that and enjoy the article.

Rodney Hampton Q&A

Question: Hello Rodney, what was Christmas like when you starting hosting the holidays in your own home? Do you decorate the house every year? Do you get a tree?

Hampton Answer: Hello Rob, my home is joyful and fun! I am constantly trying to make sure my kids feel the same way I did as a kid. It is very important to me to keep the family traditions going by having lots of food and playing fun games. Cards (spades), Monopoly, Chess, Sorry, Charades, etc are all fun. I like hearing Christmas music in the background during the holidays when family is over. We love to decorate every year. I love to see the house decorated with all white lights outside. My wife is in charge of the Christmas tree and she takes that job very seriously. She takes pride in choosing the colors and lighting scheme each year. If it were up to me, we would have the same tree every year.

Question: What is the biggest Christmas gift you have ever given and what is your favorite all-time Christmas gift you received? What town is home for the holidays?

Hampton Answer: I’ve given lots of big gifts but the one that I loved giving the most was to my Mom, it was a Mercedes Benz. This was really special to me because I was able to give her something that she wasn’t expecting. The best gift I’ve ever received as an adult is a few pairs of socks and a set of golf clubs LOL!!! Since my siblings and I are married with kids, we spend Christmas at home in Houston, Texas. Houston is home for the holidays.

1. nygreporter Reader Question: BobbyG asks, Hello Rodney, you had five consecutive 1,000 yards seasons. Do you think any of the current running backs for Big Blue can repeat that lofty achievement? Thank you for taking the time to answer my question.

Hampton Answer: Hello Bobby, yes, I think the Giants have some talented running backs on the team and certainly they are capable of having five straight 1,000 yard seasons but a lot has to happen. The offensive line must be good and the running backs have to stay healthy but yes, I think they have a back or two that can do it for sure.

2. nygreporter Reader Question: Josh Berman asks, Hello Rodney, who do you think is responsible for the Giants poor running game this year? Is it the offensive lines fault? the backs? the coaches or injuries? a mix of them all maybe? Thanks!

Hampton Answer: Hello Josh, the running game has slowed down because of a combination of reasons. The offensive line has been hit hard by injuries and the team has been throwing the ball a lot this year. I wouldn’t give up on it yet, it’s December now and things are starting to click. Let’s wait and see what happens.

Rodney’s DAC Fact

Did you know that RB Rodney Hampton was drafted in 1990? There were a few more famous players who were drafted that year. Along with the dynamic Super Bowl Champ Hamp, another RB was drafted that year. His name is Emmitt Smith. Smith is hated by all of Giants Nation but also respected. Smith would end his career as the greatest running back statistically in NFL history. Other big names from that draft are LB Junior Seau, DB Mark Carrier and DT Cortez Kennedy is no slouch either. DB Mark Carrier is a player many remember from back in the day and he is a 3x Pro Bowler. Cortez Kennedy is an 8x Pro Bowler and Junior Seau is a 12x Pro Bowl player.

12/16/11 Christmas DAC Day 16, The Giants Coaches

December 16, 2011

NEW YORK – Hello Giants fans, I thought we could take a look at the current Giants coaches and a peek back at some of the legends in Giants coaching. Let me start off by saying that I am not one who buys into the whole “Coughlin is on the hot seat” or any of that crap. Tom Coughlin is one heck of a coach and a winning coach at that. He is our man and I have no problem with that what so ever. He was born in Waterloo, New York and attended Syracuse University which makes him even more beloved in New York. He also maintains training camp at the University of Albany in upstate New York. Coughlin’s overall record with the New York Giants is 72-53 since becoming head coach back in 2004. He also won a Super Bowl Championship in 2007. Tom Coughlin gets love in New York.

If Tom Coughlin decided to retire, the two coaches that I hear are odds on favorite to replace him are Bill Cowher and Jon Gruden. I wouldn’t count out Tony Dungy who has experience with another Manning in Indy. If Peyton Manning has a career ending injury, could a scenario be worked out where he would take over the OC position for Big Blue in 2012? Now that would be something to see and to lock him down for three years would be incredible. This is unlikely to happen I know but it’s fun to think about. Bring back Jeff Feagles as special teams coach too. Those guys need him around to mentor them to the next level.

The offensive and defensive coordinators for Big Blue are like night and day. DC Perry Fewell can be very aggressive in his play calling and usually lines up the correct attack posture. OC Kevin Gilbride has fans pulling their hair out with his ultra conservative play calling at crucial moments in the game. Readers must understand that Perry Fewell is literally missing 2/3 of his defensive players to injuries. What he has done with the talent available is amazing. They are ranked at the bottom of the pile but seem to do enough to win games. Fans calling for Perry Fewell to be replaced are not paying attention to the situation. Fewell is an elite defensive coordinator playing rookies and second stringers out there. His job is as safe as can be. I cannot say the same thing about Gilbride. Fans would like to see a dynamic OC who properly uses the elite passing game of Big Blue. The majority of Giants fans would welcome a change at the offensive coordinator position in 2012 and by that I mean 75% minimum from what I see and hear. Fans have started to demand a change at the OC position.

Special Teams coach Tom Quinn might be in trouble. Friendships between boss and employee could not even endure the poor play of this group the past few years. Big changes are needed in this area and everyone knows it. The G-Men should lock down P Steve Weatherford long term and look for a 10 year kicker in my opinion. Invest big in the next Devin Hester of return men and get a proven young player if you have to trade for him. Let’s get this special teams group in shape to make a difference in games from today forward. Improving the special teams is a a game changer.

I think we should start a “hot seat” for sports media people who get it wrong all of the time. Since they like to publicly call out coaches and make them worry about their jobs. In fact, that is exactly what I’m going to do. I will introduce a new series of random articles called ‘The Sports Expert Hot Seat’ where we we call out those ‘experts’ who get the majority of there picks or tips wrong. The first person I’m nominating is Joe Buck. There is no reason why this ‘man’ should be doing professional football games. Giants fans can stomach Troy Aikman somewhat because we also respect what Troy has accomplished on the field, his opinion holds weight with football fans. But Joe Buck is unhelpful and a bit annoying, he has to go.

DAC Fact

Do you know who the winningest coach in New York Giants history is? That would be head coach Steve Owen, who compiled a record of 151-100-17 over his twenty plus coaching stint with New York from 1931-1953. Bill Parcells is second on the all-time wins list with a 77-49-1 record. Bill Parcells is my favorite New york Giants coach of all time and Tom Coughlin is number two on that list. Both great guys with a competitive streak who want to win. Tom Coughlin is also currently third on the Giants all-time wins list with a 72-53-0 record, just five wins away from being tied with Bill Parcells for second all-time.

What do you think of the Giants coaching staff in 2011? Do you think anyone will be gone after the 2011 season?

12/15/11 Christmas DAC Day 15, The NYG Special Teams

December 15, 2011

NEW YORK – The New York Giants special teams have not been very good the past couple of years. This is not news for the true blue fan but it is still something we have to discuss here and now. The drop off from former punter Jeff Feagles, the greatest punter in NFL history, to anybody else is dramatic. The Giants seem to have fixed that problem by signing P Steve Weatherford who has been consistent all year. He doesn’t look like your typical punter because this guy is yoked. He works out and looks like he could take care of himself in a bar fight. The Giants brought back special teams standout LB Chase Blackburn to bolster the depleted linebacker corps. I love this guy and he has always been a fan favorite for playing hard and having a good motor.

Special Teams coach Tom Quinn has been getting a lot of heat. Injuries have effected his ability to scheme certain plays but that still doesn’t explain away some of the absolute atrocious play from this squad in 2011. They brought in assistant special teams coach Larry Izzo from the Patriots this year but I’m not sure how much it has helped. K Lawrence Tynes has been on a lot of Giants fans bad list for a while now. He seems to be having a good season so far, despite missing a few FG’s. I would love to see the G-Men bring in a 10 year kicker and be done with it. I do not want to think when it comes to the kicker and punter, I just want them to be consistent and to perform under pressure. It might be time to either draft or trade for a solid 10 year kicker in my opinion.

Yes, the injury bug has effected this group too. Losing WR Domenik Hixon for the year again really hurts the return game. The Giants have been using a merry go round of players at the returner position and have also addressed the issue in the NFL draft. I expect this group to get some more help after the season ends. Giants GM Jerry Reese will look to bolster this squad with explosive playmakers and consistent production. I really have to give Mr. Reese credit for putting together a solid team. Nobody could have predicted the epidemic of injuries the Giants have had to endure the past three years. Still, watching the growing pains of the rookies and second stringers live on TV doesn’t help. The Giants have also had a few bonehead plays where they allowed FG attempts to be blocked, this is unacceptable and thank goodness it doesn’t happen very often.

DAC Fact

Did you know that the New York Giants played their first game ever in Connecticut? October 4, 1925 was the date of the first ever game for Big Blue and their opponent was All New Britain. The Giants shut out New Britain 26-0 and went on to finish the season with an 8-4 record. The very foundation of the New York Giants was born with winning.

What do you think about the Giants special teams performance so far in 2011?

12/14/11 Christmas DAC Day 14, The NYG Offense

December 14, 2011

NEW YORK – It feels very strange to talk about how good the Giants offense is. Not because I haven’t seen stellar offense from Big Blue in the past but because New York is known for it’s defense. The truth is the Giants offense is very good. The rushing game has been poor all year but the passing game has flourished. QB Eli Manning deserves to go to Hawaii for the Pro Bowl. WR Victor Cruz deserves to go to the Pro Bowl. WR Hakeem Nicks deserves to go to the Pro Bowl. TE Jake Ballard deserves to go to the Pro Bowl. A couple of offensive linemen deserve to go to Hawaii. I would include WR Mario Manningham here but he missed a few games with injury (I know Nicks did too) and it effected his overall numbers. A lot of guys are stepping up in 2011 and no one is benefitting from that more then Eli Manning.

I’m not sure what happened to the Giants running game but it has been non-existent for most of 2011. Ahmad Bradshaw and Brandon Jacobs have both missed time due to injuries. The Giants offensive line got off to a shaky start but have been doing a much better job, despite all of the injuries like LT William Beatty and C David Bass missing considerable time. The Giants have shut out opposing defenses a few times and not allowed a single sack. The Giants and GM Jerry Reese should heed my warning, please draft an offensive lineman in the first round of the 2012 draft.  I was certain the G-Men would take a Center or Linebacker in round one last year but when CB Prince Amukamara fell to our pick, it was clear he was the best available at a skill position.

The Giants will need to protect franchise QB Eli Manning who has one heck of an NFL Iron Man Streak going on, third in NFL history as of today (behind only Brett Favre and Peyton Manning). Prior to the Cowboys game on Sunday night, they showed a graphic of all four NFC East teams and the QB’s they’ve started since Eli Manning was drafted. I think two teams had used seven different QB’s and one team had used eight during the time Manning has been the leader of New York’s offense. That really says something and it is about time these media guys and girls give Manning his due. Easy Eli has already eclipsed the 4,000 yard passing mark for a third consecutive year and it looks like 2011 is going to end up being a career year for him.

Rookie RB Da’Rel Scott has shown flashes of greatness and his speed is undeniable. I expect great things from this young man in the future. Rookie WR Jerrel Jernigan has also had a few opportunities to show what he can do. It is difficult to get playing time right now because the G-Men are so deep at the WR position. RB DJ Ware has helped out and done well when needed. TE Travis Beckum has been getting a little more playing time now, while TE Bear Pascoe is primarily a blocker and bulldozer up the middle. The Giants offense is the real deal and has been carrying this team all year.

DAC Fact

The Giants will play Wellington Mara’s favorite rivalry, the Washington Redskins this weekend (12/18/11 at 1:00 PM EST at MetLife stadium). The Giants lead the all-time series 91-64-4. Did you know the Giants versus Redskins rivalry is the oldest in the NFC East and one of the oldest in the NFL?

12/13/11 Christmas DAC Day 13, The NYG Defense

December 13, 2011

NEW YORK – Hello Giants fans, I would like to discuss the New York Giants defense. I think everybody understand the situation we are in and why the team has been less then perfect in that department. People can look at me funny all they want but the truth is the Giants defense is simply using rookies, second stringers and a few solid veterans. Most of the guys injured are starters and the IR list must have close to 20 Giants players on it now or roughly 2/3 of the team. This doesn’t include the current list of banged up players that miss a few games here and there.

Some Giants fans understand and agree with me and other Giants leaders out there must show their displeasure in order to motivate those youngsters to play harder and smarter. Giants leaders such as Michael Strahan, Antonio Pierce and Carlos Emmons. Where the fans are supportive vocally and see the rookies out there trying their best, the veterans must stay on them to make them better. The respect is worth more then the money. I get it. The grasshopper understandeth the lesson.

I think DC Perry Fewell is doing an outstanding job with the personnel he has to work with. He is missing some major star names out there. Guys like CB Terrell Thomas, DE Osi Umenyiora, LB Clint Sintim, S Kenny Phillips. He is also using a bunch of rookies. Guys like CB Prince Amukamara, LB Jacquian Williams, LB Greg Jones and S Tyler Sash. These kids are playing their hearts out and will only get better. It is only a matter of time before they start picking up the game and getting to really understand what is happening. Then they will be able to read and react much better. Guys like Jason Pierre-Paul do not come around very often. This is a very special football player, if he keeps himself out of trouble he will go in the record books, I firmly believe that. I’m going to buy a home jersey with No.90 on the back. Guys like LB Michael Boley and S Antrel Rolle don’t come around often either, natural born leaders out there.

The Giants have had three straight years in a row where injuries have really dismantled a solid team put together by GM Jerry Reese. It is a shame that they got hit so hard because this would be a good looking squad playing together on the field. I really hope the fans can see that one day. The reality for right now is the Giants rank at the very bottom (bottom five) of the NFL defensive rankings. In order for them to improve on that area, players are going to have to stay healthy. It is unacceptable in New York to have anything less then a strong defense.

DAC Fact

Have you ever met any New York Giants players? I’ve met a few including New York Giants legend Michael Strahan. Check out the NYG Fans section and read the comment section for the whole story.

NFL Week 14: Giants vs. Cowboys, Game Notes

December 12, 2011

NEW YORK – The game last night was something to see. It was hands down the best and most exciting game of the year for Big Blue. The Giants pulled out the win 37-34 in a battle. There were a ton of lead changes and despite the horrible calls by the refs, the Giants found a way to win. They are now in first place of the NFC East and control their own playoff destiny. The G-Men will need to win one of the two upcoming games against the Redskins or Jets and then they need to win the final game of the year against the Cowboys in MetLife stadium. Actually, all three of their final games will be played in MetLife stadium (Giants stadium), even though the Jets game is considered a home game for Sanchez and company.

The first half was up and down with both teams scoring at will. They went into the locker room with Dallas leading 17-15. The Giants got a rare safety for 2 points and those were the first points on the board for either team. The second half was much of the same with both teams scoring a lot and taking advantage of the depleted defensive squads. The heart attack Giants won this game in the final two minutes and Manning notched his sixth 4th quarter comeback victory of the season. Dallas had a chance to send the game into overtime but a blocked FG by Jason Pierre-Paul put an end to all of that.

Let’s take a look at my notes from the game.

QB Eli Manning – Easy Eli had a terrific game once again and has eclipsed the 4,000 yard passing mark for a third straight year. He finished with 400 yards 2 TD’s 1 INT. He should make the Pro Bowl.

RB Brandon Jacobs – Brandon the Bull was playing like a mad man last night. He finished with 101 yards and 2 TD’s. Nice job Brandon!

WR Hakeem Nicks – Nicks had a great game too and was pulling down everything thrown his way. He finished with 157 yards 0 TD’s.

DE Jason Pierre-Paul – I’m convinced that JPP is not from earth. He gets my game ball and single handedly saved the Giants season. He finished with 2 sacks, 1 forced fumble and 1 blocked punt. He also led the entire defense in tackles. Wow!

LB Michael Boley – Every time I saw a Cowboys player get rocked, I saw Boley bouncing up from the ground. The guy is awesome and finished second on the team in tackles.

WR Mario Manningham – Super Mario made his presence known with 62 yards and 1 TD. Way to go Mario!

S Antrel Rolle – The hard hitting safety was making plays out there and doing his best against the speedy Dallas WR’s.

RB Ahmad Bradshaw – AB was shut down for the first half for a team violation. He finished with 12 yards. Well below my prediction of a big game. He will be fine and ready to go next week.

DT Chris Canty – Canty’s return to Dallas wasn’t a warm and fuzzy reunion. He made some plays out there and finished with 1 sack.

LB Jacquian Williams – I saw this kid making a lot of plays out there. I saw him miss a few too but he is outstanding for a rookie thrown into the fire. He has a bright future in New York.

CB Prince Amukamara – Prince is still learning the system and getting his feet under him. He finished third on the defense in tackles.

TE Jake Ballard – Big Jake is the real deal and Manning’s favorite safety valve. He finished with 52 yards and 1 TD.

S Deon Grant – The crafty veteran had a solid game once again and finished with 1 fumble recovery.

LB Mathias Kiwanuka – Kiwi is fast for a guy his size. You don’t realize how big he is from the way he flies around on the field. He had a great game.

WR Victor Cruz – Cruz finished second on the team in receiving and had 82 yards. That’s a good game by most standards.

CB Aaron Ross – Ross continues to do his best while filling in for Terrell Thomas. He made some plays out there against Dallas.

DE Justin Tuck – Tuck left the game in the first half with an injured toe but returned. He had a decent game but can play better.

P Steve Weatherford – This guy is Mr. Consistency. Fans are glad this is one area of the team that is no longer an issue. Good job Steve!

K Lawrence Tynes – Tynes had a good game and finished with 2 FG’s. He also made all 3 of his extra point attempts.

Giants Offense – The offense had a great game and won the shoot out against the Cowboys. Eli Manning is playing out of his mind right now.

Giants Defense – It’s no secret that the injury riddled Giants defense has become the achilles heel. They are doing their best with who they have.

Giants Special Teams – The special teams blocked a FG that gave the G-men the win. I would say they did a good job in this game.

12/12/11 Christmas DAC Day 12, Do You Believe?

December 12, 2011

NEW YORK – Hello Giants fans, let me ask you something, do you believe? That was the phrase being thrown around last night on twitter. The Giants were facing a third straight year of being eliminated from the playoffs but they fought off a scrappy Cowboys team to pull out the win. Be sure to come back a little bit later to check out our famous ‘Game Notes’ article, which will have all of the stats and analysis. The final score (37-34) proves that both defenses are nothing to write home about this year but it sure made for an exciting game to watch. There were reportedly eight different lead changes in this game and a huge attendance in the ‘House that Ego Built’.

As I mentioned in the game day article, this was the 99th meeting between these two teams and on New Year’s day 2012, the Giants and Cowboys will play for the 100th time in history. I don’t know how the rest of this season will play out but last night was clearly the best game of the year for Big Blue. Fans could not believe that Big Blue came back like that at the end of the game in a hostile environment. It was a thing of beauty to see play out before our eyes. The Giants have only 3 more games left in the season to lock down a playoff berth.

DAC Fact

Most NFL teams have nicknames and the Giants are no different. Can you name some of the titles fans have bestowed upon the New York Football Giants? Let me give you a hand with that. Some of the more popular nicknames for the Giants are Big Blue, the Jints, the G-Men, Big Blue Wrecking Crew, the Road Warriors and the New York Football Giants. The last one was actually the name written on the title for this team. They changed it by adding the word ‘football’, so people would not get confused with the Giants baseball team.

Are you surprised the Giants beat the Cowboys on the road last night?

12/11/11 Christmas DAC Day 11, It’s Game Day!

December 11, 2011

NEW YORK – The Giants play another night game tonight, that makes three night games in the past month for Big Blue. Fans will have to wait all day to find out what will become of the Giants season. If they lose, their season is essentially over. I’m not worried though because it is out of our hands now and completely up to the players. All of the pep talks in the world can’t make a tackle on the field. So sit back and enjoy the show because something tells me that Big Blue will come out with the win. Head Coach Tom Coughlin, will do all that he can to have his team prepared, this I am sure of. The play calling from OC Gilbride and DC Fewell will need to be exceptional tonight in order to keep the season alive.

The Giants injury report states that DE Osi Umenyiora, S Kenny Phillips, C David Baas, LB Mark Herzlich and LB Spencer Paysinger will not play tonight. Losing all of these players and adding them to the crowded injury list is really making me sick. The absolute epidemic of injuries is sickening. I do not want to sound cold or unsympathetic to the situation or to the players personally because I truly wish them all a fast recovery. But the damage it has done to the team as a whole is undeniable. The Giants defense was hit especially hard, knocking them down the rankings to the 29th defense overall, which is completely unacceptable for a New York football team. All I can say is, get well soon guys. My final score prediction one more time is Giants 28 – Cowboys 21.

DAC Fact

Do you know how many times the Giants and Cowboys have played each other? These two teams have a long history of rivalry and have met on the football field 98 times. That means today will be the 99th time and the big 100th contest will be in the final game of the 2011 season on New Year’s day. The first time they played each other was on December 4, 1960 in Yankee stadium and the game famously ended in a tie 31-31. These franchises have played in overtime games twice in team history and split victories in those two overtime games. They have also played two games to a tie in team history. Dallas leads the all-time series 56-40-2.

Who will finish the game with more passing yards, Eli Manning or Tony Romo?
