NEW YORK – The Giants 2011 NFL season will finally open tomorrow. Fans, including myself, have been waiting all year for this day to arrive and I’m very excited. The NFL carefully planned this opening schedule because of the date in which it falls on. September 11, 2001 is the most infamous date in United States history since the December 7, 1941 date, when Pearl Harbor was attacked. The NFL has scheduled a game between the New York Giants and Washington Redskins, representing two of the cities that were attacked a decade ago on the same infamous date. They also scheduled the New York Jets to play Americas team, better known as the Dallas Cowboys (and called much worse by Giants fans) at MetLife stadium in East Rutherford.
I can still very clearly remember the Giants playing the Denver Broncos on Monday Night Football on September 10, 2001. They lost a close game 31-20 that night and when I woke up the next morning, my entire life changed forever. I watched the towers get hit by those planes, like so many other Americans and also knew someone who died in the attacks. He was a Port Authority cop and died running into the buildings to save lives. His story is so courageous that Hollywood made him one of the main characters in the film World Trade Center. His memory is kept alive by those of us in the community that tell people his story each and every year and through the fund raisers given in his name to help kids. You might know someone too who passed away during the attacks ten years ago, I hope you keep their memory alive as well. Former Giants player George Martin has done a ton of work to support the 9/11 first responders and I have promoted his cause since day one. I ask all of our readers to click the link A Journey for 9/11 and contribute in anyway you can, even if it means simply participating in the walk itself. For some reason you may have to click the link twice before it goes through. You can also call 1-877-WALK-911 if you prefer for more info.
The preseason games and training camps are over. The time has come to put up or shut up. The Giants have a very talented football team and I truly believe they can compete with any team in the NFL. I think they will beat the Redskins tomorrow by the score of 21-17 in a close game. Washington will be fired up from playing in DC on such an emotional day and I expect them to give it their best. These games against division rivals are always the most fun to me because the teams play with a little extra spunk when doing battle. I will be keeping a close eye on the defense and watching how they react to the recent surge in injuries that have decimated their squad. Get ready Giants fans, the season is about to begin!
What are your plans to watch the Giants season opener on Sunday?

NEW YORK – I would like to wish all of our readers and Giants fans everywhere a very Happy Labor Day. I know that these are very tough times we are living in and many of you might be out of work. I have experienced that myself during the past two years of an absolutely horrible economy. The only thing I can say is keep your head up and stay strong because it is not easy when you’re going through it. These tough times cannot last forever. I hope that you all have a very nice day with your family or friends and get out of the house for a little while. Maybe attend a BBQ to commemorate the end of summer, take the kids to the park or just have a few drinks with buddies. Whatever it is that you decide to do, I hope you enjoy yourself.
Some of the people who we know will be working hard are the players, coaches and staff of the New York Giants. They have a ton of work to do in a very short amount of time. The regular season begins in six days (9/11/11 at 4:15 PM EST) when they face the Washington Redskins in DC. Everything is pretty much in place for them to get started, including cutting down to the 53 man Roster and finally deciding on a tentative depth chart. The MetLife stadium (Giants stadium aka New Meadowlands stadium) will be rocking very soon Giants fans and some of you will be the ones doing the rocking. I hope everyone remembers that kids attend these games, so let’s try to keep it classy and drink responsibly (Giants fans don’t need this advice really, it’s the Jets fans we should be concerned with).
That is all I have to say for now. This is just a short article to wish you well and to say that I hope you have fun today. Be sure to come back and check out our articles throughout the season for everything pertaining to Big Blue! Enjoy!
Do you have any interesting plans for this Labor Day?

NEW YORK – On behalf of the nygreporter, I would like to wish all of our readers and Giants fans everywhere a very Happy 4th of July! Our Independence Day has a ton of meaning and I hope that the kids reading this will do some investigating on their own to find out the true meaning of why we celebrate this holiday. We all belong to the greatest country in the world and you should be thankful and proud to be an American.
I would like to specifically wish the U.S. military a very Happy 4th of July because without you, there would be no us. You are not forgotten!
There will be a beautiful fireworks display on the Hudson river tonight (ranked No.1 in the entire nation) along with millions of barbecues and parties all over the country. Setting off fireworks has become the activity most associated with this holiday and I hope that all of you kids reading this will be very careful when handling them. Be sure to have your parents with you and do not go near any firework that doesn’t explode or looks like a dud. These are mini-explosives and could really harm you if you handle them the wrong way. My simple advice for the adults is don’t drink and drive.
The NFL lockout has now reached 115 days and as our article stated yesterday, the games are coming up on the calendar very fast now. There isn’t much wiggle room left before the 2011 season is irreversibly effected. Let’s hope that the powers that be come to some sort of a solution this week and save their product the embarrassment of canceling the entire season over money. That is something that will not sit well with the American public during these hard economic times. We can discuss this more during the week but for today, celebrate and enjoy our Independence Day!
What are your plans for this 4th of July holiday?

NEW YORK – I would like to say Happy Memorial day to all of the U.S. military around the world. I would also like to thank our military for everything they do. You are not forgotten! I hope Americans take the time to explain the true meaning of this holiday to their children. I hope we can take a moment of silence to remember all of the fallen soldiers who gave their lives to protect this country. My Uncle John is one of the people who died for this country. I’m sure most of our readers have a family member or know someone who has lost a loved one in war. Beer and BBQ are always nice but let us never forget the true meaning of this day of remembrance.
The NFL lockout has now reached 80 days and I would suggest the owners and players do the same thing. Do not forget the meaning of the game. Do not forget why you play the game of football and why you choose to own an NFL team. While you are arguing over millions of dollars the fans are suffering. Your fan base is suffering. The fans certainly have no choice but to wait things out and it’s a shame. Make a deal soon and end this nonsense that is almost 3 months old now.
I have been watching the ships, planes and helicopters for fleet week. If you haven’t had the chance to check it out, I suggest you do sometime. It makes me proud to be an American when I see the awesome power of the military. Seeing the USS New York floating down the hudson river and knowing it was built from the steel of the World Trade Center gave me chills. If there is one thing I would like to say, it is simply do not forget. Always remember why we have this holiday and try to take a moment for those who have fallen with honor. God bless you and your families and God bless the U.S. military all over the world. You are not forgotten!

NEW YORK (nygreporter.com) – I would like to wish everyone a Happy St. Patricks Day because as the saying goes, everyone is Irish on St. Patricks day. I won’t use the cliche that the NFL needs the luck of the Irish to have a 2011 NFL season but the truth is that the Giants will need to luck of the Irish to stay healthy in 2011. At full strength, the Giants will go deep into the playoffs and they won’t need luck. Maybe the owners and player reps should try the simple approach of sitting around a table and having a few Guinness beers. They most likely will not however and it looks like a one way ticket to Palookaville for the fans.
Get your four leaf shamrocks out and cross your fingers because the fans know a pot of gold is waiting at the end of the table. Sign the deal and get back to work. We live in fickle times and the fans attention span is much shorter then it used to be. I remember when my computer crashed a couple of years ago and I kept wondering what I was going to do without a computer until I got a replacement. How did people function without computers back in the day? Oh wait, I’m old enough to remember that. But you know what happened? I adapted to not having a computer rather quickly and replaced the time I had spent on the computer with doing with more activities. I also began to read more. Well, I began to read more books to be specific. I read pages of text daily spreading the current news or sports updates. Do you get the point NFL? It would not be good for business if 10%-15% of your fans realize they like life better without the NFL. Don’t be arrogant and think it can’t happen.
Not much news on the football front. The players are banned from all team facilities and the lockout continues on going into day six. I want to remind all of our readers to drink responsibly and don’t be stupid and get into a car drunk. Anyone who drives a car while drunk is a fool. Do the right thing, not just for yourself but for the innocent people (kids too) crossing a street. Other then that, have a wonderful day and a ton of fun. If you see a leprechaun swinging from a Save-More convenience store neon sign, calling your name and cursing at you, then it’s time to go home. Just put down the drink and call a cab. Good Luck!
Have one for us!

NEW YORK – We have finally locked down a partnership with Shop.Giants.com. That means you can now find official New York Giants merchandise on our website. This is something that I have wanted to do for a while and think our readers will appreciate the convenience of going straight to the official New York Giants team store if they decide they want to buy something. If you want to learn how you can do this for your own website, using your own favorite team, I suggest you check out an affiliate program and learn how to Find a sponsor for your web site. Get paid for your great content. You get a percentage for using team ads. You will need to get approved and once you do, just become a partner with a merchant, such as shop.giants.com. As you can see, there are no minefields of advertising to maneuver around on nygreporter and we intend to keep it way. However, we do want the fans to have access to Giants products.
You all know that too many advertisements can ruin a good website. Pop ups and the loud ones are avoided like the plague. That is why I will not let ads ruin our website. You will only be able to purchase New York Giants merchandise on this website. Of course, NFL gear for the NFL Draft, NFL Pro Bowl and the Super Bowls to be included too. But you will never find the clutter we have all come to loathe. You can be sure your getting official Giants gear when visiting us here. I mean, think of the possibilities, you have Eli Manning jerseys and Steve Smith jerseys and you have a host of other Giants jerseys you can choose from as well. You can always get a team hat if you need a gift for a sports fan. You never see anyone get mad over getting a hat. Other items that nobody ever gets mad at receiving are team T-shirts, just make sure you know the right size.
It’s nice to know that you can always just go straight to specific catalog areas if you feel like browsing too. After all, it can get pretty cold in East Rutherford during the winter at New Meadowlands stadium and people will need to dress warm while they wait for the game to start, tailgate gear might be just the thing you’re looking for. I am proud to have Giants products available on my site, I know our readers are people who represent their team to the fullest. All of this talk about “stuff” has me wondering what your most prized Giants possession is? Mine revolve around meeting a player usually but what are yours? Feel free to leave a comment below and share your thoughts.
What is your most prized New York Giants possession? My favorite is a helmet that Michael Strahan personally signed for me.

NEW YORK – What a crazy year it has been in the world of sports. I can’t believe we have been up and running for a full year already. I was trying to get our readers an interview with a Giants player for this special occasion and got very lucky, because I have one of the best players on the team answering a few questions for us. I will publish the article tomorrow (Sunday 3-6-11) of an interview I had with a “surprise” New York Giants player (he has since been revealed as WR Steve Smith). I suggest you all come back tomorrow and see who it is that I’m talking about. I promise you won’t be disappointed.
Hopefully, we will be able to get more interviews now with Giants players and coaches. I know these are exactly the types of articles Giants fans want to read with their coffee in the morning or at home at night. Some of the other writers here like Josh and Saulo, have been with the website since we first went live. Others such as Andrew joined us last year. I would like to say thank you for all of your contributions and as always guys, I look forward to reading your next articles. What a strange journey it has been to get us here today. At the stroke of midnight tonight it will be one year.
Things will continue to get interesting during the next few weeks with the upcoming NFL Draft, The CBA talks (extended another week), free agency and trades. We will be here to cover it all and give our unique perspective on the team. When Saulo takes a moment from his world travels and gets on his laptop, he usually blesses us with an informed article. We need to read more from Saulo! When Josh isn’t studying for mid-terms or finals, he also blesses our readers with well thought out stories concerning the current state of Big Blue. I am sure we will see more of Josh over the summer. Andrew has been busy lately but he also gives us a great perspective on the team through his work. Thank you once again writers for all that you do and thanks especially to all of our readers who are making nygreporter a respectable family friendly website. We have not wavered from our clean chat policy or managing a safe environment for sports fans.
If any of our readers have a website suggestion, please feel free to leave a comment below. You do not need to be a member of nygreporter (although we hope you will become a member) to leave a comment but you do have to have a wordpress account. To become an nygreporter member, make a wordpress account, then make a separate account for nygreporter.com on wordpress. You can also subscribe to our email list or RSS feed if you prefer. We are always open to hearing new ideas about projects our readers might like to share and we always encourage participation.
Here are some of the more interesting things that happened during the past year.
– Getting to do our first big time interview with New York Giants WR Steve Smith, Steve Smith Interview 3/6/11, nygreporter Edition 0001
– Being a “featured” blog on Giants.com and working towards developing a partnership, Giants.com features nygreporter on their Website
– The shout out we got from Mike Garafolo of the Star-Ledger on NJ.com for correctly picking the final score of a game. Here is a link to the story and video, Mike Garafolo Gives nygreporter a Shout Out on NJ.com
– Attending the New York Giants 2010 NFL training camp at the University of Albany. Here is a link to the pics, Images
– Going on the “Eisen’s Insight Live” podcast and talking Giants football with Michael Eisen and John Schmeelk. Listen for “Robert from New York” at the 16 minute mark of the show. Here is a link to the podcast, NYGReporter Calls “Eisen’s Insight LIVE” on Giants.com
– Doing the LIVE updates for the 2010 NFL Draft on the Giants via nygreporter, New York Giants 2010 NFL Draft RECAP
– Calling the “Mike Francesa Show” and talking football with Mike while he was at Giants training camp in Albany. No links are available but it was a good 5 minute talk about the Giants defense.
– Getting involved with multiple charities and promoting their causes on our website, American Red Cross – Wounded Warrior Project – A Walk To Believe – A Journey for 9/11
– COMING SOON: We are working on a partnership that will allow nygreporter.com to sell New York Giants merchandise. We will ONLY promote New York Giants products on our website.
Feel free to leave your comments below, we would love to hear from some of our readers. Once again, thank you to the Giants community for all of your support.

Happy Valentine’s Day Big Blue fans!
Do any of you remember all the way back to elementary school; making a bunch of cards and having the afternoon to pass them out to select classmates? Well, I was thinking it might be fun to imagine which Giants would be giving cards to who. I thought about the past season and the up-coming one (knock on wood), and I made up my list of top five Valentine’s Day givers and receivers for the Giants.
So lets jump into it!
- GM Jerry Reese wishes the NFL would be his Valentine and fix this CBA PDQ. I’m sure he is very excited to have the season officially start, so he can begin to make contract negotiations with some of his 21 free agents. Speaking of which:
- The 21 free agents the Giants have are all hoping to get candy covered cards from their front office man Jerry Reese. Not all of them will be signed back but bigger names such as Smith, Hixon, Bradshaw and Kiwanuka are all hoping to hear that the Giants are interested in further employing their services.
- Matt Dodge and Tom Quinn both are hoping for a bouquet of roses from Giants fans; a peace-offering perhaps or at least a shot at one more season. The other alternative is running one or both of them out-of-town. Both coach and punter with pitiful seasons should really be thanking Tom (Coughlin that is) for not putting them out on the street yet.
- Plaxico Burress hopes to get a dinner date this Valentine’s Day with Eli Manning, Jerry Reese, Tom Coughlin and the state of New York. He is scheduled to be released from prison soon and he is hoping that his ex-team is waiting for him at the gate.
- Eli Manning is hoping to fall head over heels, this Valentine’s Day, with a consistent, healthy, and ,one more time, consistent group of pass catchers. He needs a group in there that he can get comfortable with; the significant shuffling due to injuries did not help the franchise QB.
So there you have it! 5 V-Day cards being sent and received by various members of the G-Men. Hopefully, they all get what they wish for and Cupid can work some magic for our Boys in Blue. Let me hear who you think, from the Giants that need a Valentine’s card, or even better, leave some Valentine’s day wishes for your loved ones! I will be thinking very fondly of someone very special (she knows who she is), we cannot be together on this special day but she knows that I care very much about her. From all of us here at nygreporter.com, have a very wonderful Valentine’s Day with the ones you love!

NEW YORK – On behalf of everyone here at the nygreporter, I would like to wish all of our readers and Giants fans a very Happy New Year! There were over a million people in Times Square last night to help ring in the 2011 new year. New York City has become the destination to be at on new years eve. I have had the pleasure to attend the “ball drop” on three separate occasions. The first time I went, there weren’t so many security measures in place and you could roam around free, the last time I went it was a completely different experience with the new security measures. I feel bad for the kids of today who will not get the chance to experience the old way. It was truly a lot of fun.
Well, ladies and gentlemen, we have finally arrived at the end of the season. The final regular season game will be played tomorrow against the Washington Redskins at 4:15 PM EST. I still can’t believe how quickly this season has gone by but all good things must come to end they say. Hopefully, Big Blue will give the fans a game to remember in a positive way with a win. As you all know, the playoffs are not completely out of reach for the G-Men. If the Bears beat the Packers tomorrow, the Giants will sneak into the playoffs but they have to beat the Redskins too. The Giants have about a third of their team on the injured reserve list, there were 15 players at last count on the IR list. This has become an epidemic when coupled with the rash of IR list players from the 2009 season. I don’t know what can be done about the injuries but I do know that you can’t win very much without your star players on the field.
The Giants should beat the Redskins thoroughly tomorrow. I would predict a final score of 38-20. I am more concerned about the Bears beating the Packers. The Bears have clinched a nice cushy spot in the playoffs and might not risk injuring their star players for the entire game. The Packers will be playing for their lives. If the Giants miss the playoffs, it is nobody’s fault but their own. They had their chance to lock things up and did not come through. I hope the season ends on a good note for everyone involved.
Happy New Year!

NEW YORK – Hello Giants fans and our nygreporter readers. I have a short story to tell you about something that happened to me on Sunday. If I happen to be home watching the football games on Sunday, I like to go on twitter and talk to my fellow Giants fans and writers about the upcoming game. It has become a fun little thing to do on game days. This past Sunday, Mike Garafolo of the Star-Ledger (big New Jersey newspaper) asked all the Giants fans on twitter to predict the final score of the game against the Redskins. Just something to add a little spice to the day, so I decided to give him my pick which was 31-10. As you all know the final score was 31-7 in a game where the Giants played like they were in the Super Bowl. To make a short story shorter, I had the closest prediction and I won the contest.
So Mike sends me a message asking me to email him, which I do. He then offers to give a shout-out on my behalf, during his video series this week for winning the prediction of the final score. Well, Mr. Garafolo kept his word and you can find the short 6 minute video below, which he ends with a shout-out from us here at the nygreporter. Thanks Mike for keeping your word and making me laugh my butt off when I watched the video and thanks to the Star-Ledger, a great paper for local Jersey news. I’m looking forward to winning the contest again this weekend, when the Giants take on the Vikings in Minnesota. What do I win for back to back winning weeks? Stay tuned and find out next week Giants fans. Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays!!
My final score prediction for this Sunday is a 28-20 Giants victory against the Vikings. Check out the video below!
